Each box comes with a fold-out card. August’s theme is Romance! I spot Ouran High School Host Club and Sailor Moon on the cover.

Sailor Moon and Luna Funko Pop! – $10.99 (on sale for $8.50 on Amazon)

Sailor Moon was my first venture into anime and manga so it has a special place in my heart. I love how Sailor Moon’s pigtails touch the ground to help keep her upright! The Luna figure is a cute touch too.

Negima Eva Plush – $12.99

Subscribers receive one of 5 Negima or Chobits plushes. Negima, or Magical Teacher Negima!, follows the life of 10-year-old wizard Negi as he teaches English for a class of 31 middle school girls. I received Eva, a vampire and student in Negi’s class.

Misty Chronexia Sticker – $2?

Akibento recently started introducing YouTubers on their info cards and August features Misty Chronexia. This is a bonus item. I’m not sure who the girl is but I assume she’s related to his YouTube channel (which has over 1 million subscribers!).

Akibento Monthly Pin – $1?

This is the Romance pin. I’m not 100% sure but it looks like Ciel and Sebastian from Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji) recreating the iconic Titanic pose.

Host Club Luggage Tag – $10?

This is an Akibento exclusive luggage tag featuring Haruhi from Ouran High School Host Club. It follows Haruhi, a girl who gets mistaken for a guy and forcibly recruited into her high school’s host club. Unlike other luggage tags with paper inserts, you must write your contact info directly on the rubber (with permanent marker, I assume). There’s no way to edit any info.

Dango Necktie – $20?

This is a skinny tie featuring anthropomorphic dango. They look a little like Kirby to me. My boyfriend likes it a lot! I think he’ll get a lot of wear out of this.

Romance Shirt – $15?

This is hilarious! My boyfriend says this is one of his favorite subscription box t-shirts ever. The phrase “Senpai noticed me” plays off of the “notice me senpai” meme. It hasn’t gotten old yet, surprisingly. I like the Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask artwork too.

Verdict: This was a great box from Akibento! My favorite item is the t-shirt. My retail value estimate is around $72, which is more than twice the cost of subscription. Everything is high quality and curation seems great. My one complaint remains the same– it’s difficult to figure out what titles some items are associated with due to lack of info. The dango tie has to be from some anime… but where?? I’ll keep hoping that Akibento improves the info card.

What’s your favorite item from August’s Akibento?
