The Mysteries in Time box came with this instruction booklet explaining the contents and how to do the craft. I really appreciate when boxes include this information! We followed the instructions just as show on this inside of this booklet.

First Elle took out the world map and placed the Timeline Sticker. My friend and her 11-year old were visiting us during the week, so we worked on the activities together. Elle really liked this box and it was great to have something interesting and fun for her to do while my daughter was in school.

Mysteries in Time includes a fictional story about Max and Katie that supports the history fact booklet. Elle skipped the story but I’m reading it with my daughter, Cira, at night before bed. It’s a cute story about Max and his younger sister Katie and how they have to solve the mysteries in the time box they receive.

Both the 11 year old and the 6 year old enjoyed learning about the Egyptians from the fact booklet. I can’t believe I didn’t know what the Rosetta Stone was before! Look it up – it’s very interesting. There are fun activities in the booklet too.

The activity was great- Elle liked learning about and making an amulet. The clay was not a winner though. Elle did a lot of huffing and puffing- it was pretty frustrating to work with.

Three coloring pages and some colored pencils were included in the kit too.

Lastly there were some extra fun items like this canopic jar (learned something new here too!) and some stickers. Elle liked the jar so much she asked to take it back to North Carolina with her.

Verdict: We all think Mysteries in Time is a great box that could be enjoyed by a variety of ages. Both the 6 year old and the 11 year old enjoyed the information and the activities. This would be a wonderful gift for an inquisitive kid! Heck, this is just a cool box to have at home for a slow day. What parent doesn’t like their kid to learn and have fun at the same time? Plus, there was the added bonus of the adults in the house learning things too. I’d call that an all-around win!

As for the value, today the pound is $1.31 dollars to 1 British pound which would make the cost of this box a little over $30.00, including shipping. I don’t feel like the value is the greatest but it’s certainly not the worst either. I’m happy with the box contents and information for my family, which makes it worth it.

Have you tried Mysteries in Time yet?
