The Children by Ann Leary – Retail Value $26.99 (On Amazon for $17.46)
Book Summary from Amazon:
From New York Times bestselling author Ann Leary comes the captivating story of a wealthy, but unconventional New England family, told from the perspective of a reclusive 29-year-old who has a secret (and famous) life on the Internet.
Charlotte Maynard rarely leaves her mother’s home, the sprawling Connecticut lake house that belonged to her late stepfather, Whit Whitman, and the generations of Whitmans before him. While Charlotte and her sister, Sally, grew up at “Lakeside,” their stepbrothers, Spin and Perry, were welcomed as weekend guests. Now the grown boys own the estate, which Joan occupies by their grace―and a provision in the family trust. When Spin, the youngest and favorite of all the children, brings his fiancé home for the summer, the entire family is intrigued. The beautiful and accomplished Laurel Atwood breathes new life into this often comically rarefied world. But as the wedding draws near, and flaws surface in the family’s polite veneer, an array of simmering resentments and unfortunate truths is exposed.
With remarkable wit and insight, Ann Leary pulls back the curtain on one blended family, as they are forced to grapple with the assets and liabilities – both material and psychological – left behind by their wonderfully flawed patriarch.
This book is getting rave reviews – and it’s under 300 pages, I think that’s enough to put it at the top of my to-read pile!
Remedy Teas #17 Guava White – Value $7.28
This organic white tea blend is made with strawberries, ginger root, and guava. It smells fantastic, and the fruity blend seems perfect for summer.
It also came with steeping instructions:
Being Apothecary Release Milk Bath – Value $34
I’ve sampled this natural beauty brand before, and I really like their formulas – plus the packaging is just gorgeous! (I love getting bath products that you want to have out on display!)
This organic milk bath is made with cocoa butter, rose petals, and sandalwood essential oil. The scent is subtle and relaxing. I can’t wait to use this and read in the tub like Cozy Reader Club suggests!
Shady Creek Farm Washcloth – Value $8
This washcloth is made with 100% USA grown cotton, and it is easy to clean to – machine wash, and tumble dry low.
If I had a guest room/bathroom I’d probably put this in there since it looks so nice, but since I don’t, I’ll get the washcloth upgrade!
Emmy’s Raspberry Macaroons – Value $3
I’ve sampled other flavors of Emmy’s Macaroons before, and I’m now even more convinced that every flavor must be delicious.
These were great – I finished them immediately after taking this picture! If you are looking for a gluten-free and vegan treat – I can’t recommend these enough!
Verdict: This box has a value of about $70 (that’s with the discounted Amazon sale price of the box). I think that’s an OK value if you sign up with the $5 off for life coupon ($60 a month). Cozy Reader Club is still on the high-end in terms of cost for a monthly book box, so it probably isn’t for everyone, but I think they do an excellent job delivering on their promise of what you can expect in a box, and everything always feels special! This box is definitely about the experience!

This was my second Cozy Reader box and I’m thrilled. Both months have included a book that I want to read and items that are well-chosen and well-crafted high quality. I already finished The Children and it was a perfect, easy read for summer. The sub is pricey for me, but it’s worth it. I cancelled BOTM to help pay for it. I know BOTM is much lower price but I didn’t like the inferior quality of the books once they started with their own editions.
I like those washcloths for washing dishes. My mom makes them for me. 🙂
They started charging $10/month for shipping so total cost of this box would be $74.95 and value of box is $5 under the cost. I just made the mistake of signing up for a three month sub based on this review and got hit with a $30 shipping charge that they didn’t show before I hit ‘order.’ trying to decide if I want to challenge the charge or not. Beware!
When I signed up, it showed the shipping charge as soon as I put in my address. Maybe you missed it.
It didn’t and I was actually looking for it! I finally figured that they must have added the shipping into the cost of the box. The website I was on was the Cozy Reader site and not Cratejoy, though. Maybe that’s where the problem was? I will probably just suck it up and keep the sub, just wanted to let others know!
I might have to purchase a bag of that tea! White tea is my favorite for an afternoon cup. I bet it tastes good iced! I really want to subscribe, but it isn’t in my budget this summer.
I can confirm the tea is delicious iced!
This was my first Cozy Reader Club box and I was really happy with it. The tea is amazing. The book was a really quick read it’s well written but I would have liked one of the main characters to be more developed.
