  1. The Play! drawstring bag this month will have a hot pink popsicle on it. In the spot where a bite has been taken out of it, there is a hot pink lipstick kiss. Cute!

    • Sounds cute! I hope they keep sending the draw-string pouches. I have endless uses for them.

      • Like what? I have lots of little bags like these (most smaller than Sephora Play ones) that are cute but don’t really have a use for them except sometimes putting some jewelry in when I travel. Ideas?

    • Wait, how did you see/hear about it? I’m looking everywhere on the internet.

  2. Anybody else notice that when this month’s box went up on your purchases page, there was a notation? Mine was labeled “Oily/Combination”.

    • I never had a notation. I also haven’t been charged for this month yet but had received an April/May box.
Anyone else not notice a charge?

      • I was charged late on friday.

    • “PLAY! by SEPHORA / July 2016 Play! Box B – Normal/Dry” for me. Eeeentersting!

And to the person below, yes, when I redeemed my May coupon for points, I was asked several questions. If I liked it, what I liked best… I wonder if they are just supposed to make conversation or if our answers get shared?

    • Yes, mine says box b normal/dry!!

    • Ohhh, yes – mine says normal/dry. I like that they’re taking that into consideration!

    • Yes, I posted about this a few days ago further down in the comments. I’m not happy about it because I have dry skin but I do not want that Benefit liquid bronzer nor the Smashbox… Who hasn’t sampled that horrid Smashbox primer several times already?! My skin is sensitive and it breaks me out every single time I try it. I actually like the TF bronzer but know that’s not what they’re going to send me based on my skin type. As soon as I realized what they were doing with variations this month I cancelled on July 1 but am still stuck with this box since you have to cancel before the first. This box has gone downhill but I’m hoping the blotterazi and Ouai will make this months worth it (even though Ouai just went out to many of us in RZ box of style). I’m tired of paying for samples that I don’t really want when I could go into my local store and ask for samples of the exact products I want to test.

      • Yeah I am kinda bummed about the bronzer and the primer. I would have rather had the other options too. (I’m dry too) But I guess I’ll have to wait and see if thats what I actually get. I have never tried either bronzer but I have a few samples already of the smashbox. Not a fan.

    • Am I looking in the wrong place? I go to Online Orders and it shows my pending play box (June 3). I click on it and all it says is “Play! By Sephora”. No box A/B, oily or dry. I hope there’s not a 3rd junk box…

      • Hi ! I was having the same issue.. You need to view the full website not the mobile version

        • Excellent! Thank you for the response. Going to go check now 🙂

      • Mine also doesn’t say A or B. And I looked on the full website. I am a little nervous; I hope I still get the Blotterazi since thats really the only think I want!

        • They took the box a/b titles off of everyone now.

          • Well, I’m a little relieved, but that’s kinda weird. Why even label them to begin with?

          • I think maybe they didn’t want us finding out ahead? But really who knows! I just wish mine would ship already!! It shipped on the 8th last month.

  3. I live pretty far from an actual store but today I was in nyc so I stopped in to make a small purchase and get those 50 pts. As I was checking it the cashier asked me all sorts of questions about my PlayBox. What was my favorite item from the last box? Did I think I would buy any of the full-size items? This is only my second box and the first time I’ve gotten a chance to redeem the 50 pts. Anyone else had this iexperience?

    • I redeemed mine a couple weeks ago and she just scanned it and handed it back to me (??). (I know with some Sephora coupons you can reuse them but this doesn’t seem like one where you should be able to.) She didn’t ask me any of that stuff though.

  4. July Spoilers

    Everyone will receive:

    beautyblender blotterazzi™ by beautyblender®
    NEST Citrine
    Ouai Wave Spray

Remaining items will be one of each category:

Benefit Cosmetics Dew the Hoola Soft Matte Liquid Bronzer or
    Too Faced Soleil Matte Bronzer

First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser or
First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser With Red Clay

Smashbox Iconic Photo Finish Foundation Primer or
Smashbox Photo Finish Oil Free Foundation Primer Pore Minimizing

    • Where did you see this?
I’m really hoping I don’t get the Too Faced Soleil Bronzer. I love Benefit and I already got the same exact Too Faced sample from Sephora as a 100 point reward TWO years ago!!!

      • (I shouldn’t complain though — I’m actually very excited about the fragrance and the wave spray. It’s just that the Benefit would make this the perfect box!)

    • I’m very pleased with this news, no clue where you found it because I’ve been searching err’where! Much appreciated and here’s hoping you’re right and that I get the box/bag for combo skin…for some reason my order is still “pending” and sans the notation but they definitely took payment and it went through. Mayhaps it will update on Tuesday. Thanks for the news!

    • Oooo. I really hope this is correct and I’m not getting my hopes up. Everything but the bronzer sounds great. I’ve had play for 2 months now and have not been impressed. This would make up for it, I think.

      • I’m with you. This sub was hyped up but I haven’t been impressed so far. Just cancelled my Birchbox sub; this will be the next one to go if I’m not impressed with the July box. I am loving the Allure box these days. Great products and sample sizes are worth the $$!

        • I agree, I was so excited to get this box from Sephora. I have only received 2 or 3 (no July box yet), but I have really been disappointed. The sizes are so small, I am disabled and can’t go into a store for the points and every time I try to use my points online I have to make a purchase, pay for shipping and handling then when I get my order…the sample I used my points on “was out of stock” and they send me something I don’t want and I have then used up my points. If I call, they can’t help me out. They sometimes give me more points but then it’s the same old run around. I’m about to cancel mine too.

    • Don’t use bronzers but if they must include it, I hope I get the Too Faced bronzer although I think Sephora will give me the Benefit since I have “normal/dry” . The Benefit one has pretty bad reviews:/

  5. In other news, you can now Cancel your Sephora Play directly from your accounts page rather than having to call in! After sticking with it for 6 months, I cancelled mine today (which means I’ll still get July but will stop getting them as of August) and it took less than a minute. I’ve been on the fence about keeping it and the combination of no spoilers + July box variations without informing us + major product overload (seriously, my partner might leave me if I cram any more samples onto our bathroom counter! ha) was enough for me to call it quits. Hopefully that opens a spot for someone who is still on the wait list! I still think the value is there, but only if you aren’t already overloaded with products and will actually use the samples they send.

  6. @HeatherF
I’m not sure what you mean by the “UV” version of OI’s All in One Milk? I buy my Davines products from either the Davines website or from the salon I go to. I’m not aware of any other versions of the All in One Milk. Did Birchbox say it was a special version? I’ve read a description by Birchbox that mentions UV protection, but I’m not aware of any specific UV version of Davines OI All in One Milk. I’ve only used what I thought was the one and only “version” of the product, and I only see the original OI All in One Milk on the Davines website. Curious.

    • Hi there, @d!

It’s called: Davines SŪ Hair Milk

I looked up the product page through Birchbox so I was sure to have the name right.

  7. I cancelled my subscription on the 29th. After seeing the value of each box fall so drastically, not being happy or able to use most of what’s in my box, and if I do, it breaks me out, and not getting any spoilers for July, I wanna keep my $10 and spend it on something I’ll use. I think I made the right choice instead of being disapointed. At this point I don’t see it being likely that I’ll be sad I did, considering they’ll probably send a sea salt spray and such in this box. So disapointed in Sephora on this one. It’s rather obvious they hyped the boxes with limited availability and great products to start, then when the waitlist opened, the boxes are reguritated Birthday gifts from the past. I’ll just keep going in and asking for samples of things I want. I can easily get 3-4 samples of products of my choosing and will work for me each time I go and not pay. So what’s the point, Sephora?? 🙁 Just so disapointed.

    • Hi Stephanie, boy do I wish that I would’ve seen this a week ago. I just got an email from Sephora Play about a sneak peek for July and me like about 15 (posted) women on Sephora’s discussion page on their website saw first No Sneak Peek but the fact that my card (and theirs) was charged for their July’s box and now all of those and mine shows it’s now OUT OF STOCK! !! I mean what in the hay is going on with these sub boxes lately?? First Birchbox changes the way the “reward ” their faithful subscribers. Now this with Sephora. Do these companies really want to make us women upset, from mossing or broken items to not available or waitlists. I mean I know some ppl say that it’s only $10 but I can’t keep coming up with $10 here and there just to find a box that’s actually worth it, or a company you can trust. I feel like a bunch of others have said on social media and on those companies websites, “either get your act together or stop doing sub boxes ” it’s totally frustrating to me and I’m already stressed with economic difficulties and things going up in price and dealing with my kids and makeup prices being crazy expensive ya kno. It would be nice to have some kind of consistency in the monthly routine of thesr sub boxes that’s ALL. ok they give me a small sample this month next month something is broken or just plain out of stock, it’s a big time pain in my “rump” if you know what I mean. #TotallyConfused

  8. Is it just me or the samples are really tiny? This will be my 3rd box… May cancel …I think the best box so far is ALlure.

    • Agree totally. I grab my boxes once a week from my p.o. box, and noticed that Play’s samples now seem tiny – even side by side with my Walmart boxes. I may give it a couple more months, but yeah, they’re on the chopping block. Really disappointed.

Agree with your Allure comment too. (Totally keeping that sub! It never disappoints me in quantity or quality.)

    • I cancelled mine today too. I cancelled Birchbox a couple months ago once I got off Sephora’s wait list, and now I am so done with these companies. I’m not subscribing to any more boxes unless they seriously step up their game. It irritates me that Sephora sent out these wonderful samples for the first months, and then changed everything once more spots opened up. It’s not worth wasting my money to support a company that’s going to do that- they’re not even trying to hide that the quality has significantly gone down! I’ll be saving my $10/month for something I actually want (like Chipotle) 🙂

  9. I found more spoilers or *possible* spoilers anyway. So…now I’m addicted to sub boxes, this site AND the site where I found these spoilers, ha ha! Also, I’m going to start using my last initial since there are two HeatherS in this thread. Ha. So, anyway, the possible spoilers:

    One thread listed:

*Benefit Dew the Hoola Liquid Bronzer

    *Too Faced Soleil Chocolate Bronzer

    *Smashbox Photo Finish Primer

    *BeautyBlender Blotterazzi

    *Ouai Wave Spray

    *Nest Citrine

(And the spoiler post earlier had that wave spray too!)

    And yet another spoiler said:

    -First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser

-Smashbox Iconic Photo Finish Foundation primer

    -Nest Citrine perfume

What do ya’ll think? I certainly don’t want two bronzers. I was REALLY hoping for one of the summer lip products Sephora has been hyping…I’m wicked into the wave spray. I’m excited to see what we’re actually going to get.

    • I would love all of these! I haven’t tried a wave spray yet because I’ve been hoping for a sample to try first. I have fine wavy hair. There are so many products that don’t work for me:(

      • @Amanda

Some of the ones I’ve tried and really liked are the Davines OI All in One Milk (one of the few Davines products I actually liked and really LOVE and discovered through Birchbox and on the way cheaper side, Treseme (sp?) makes a Sea Salt spray I like as well. I’m hoping for the wave spray through, in my first Play box.

        • I use Davines products, and the OI All in One Milk isn’t a wave spray, but Davines does have a Sea Salt Spray.

          • @d

The All in One Milk really defines my curls and waves, I wound up buying the UV version and it’s just NOT the same. The smell is nice but not as wonderful and the results are good but not as great.

        • Thanks! I’ll have to try that!

    • Argh. I just looked at my Account and it shows my order as ‘PLAY! by SEPHORA / July 2016 Play! Box B – Normal/Dry’… so I’m guessing this month they are going to be doing variations of their boxes which I don’t love the idea of. I guess it’s good that they are going to cater more to our exact skin types but if they are doing variations I want a say because helloooo box envy. Also, just because my skin is normal/dry doesn’t mean I’m not sweating/glistening all summer long! I’m guessing I will get stuck with the liquid bronzer that I don’t want based on this, and may not get the blotterazzi which was one of the only reasons I didn’t cancel this months box. I hope I’m wrong and I just end up with a different cleanser or something…

      • Eeep! Mine hasn’t charged yet, but I’m thinking yes…this means there will be at least two variations. The suspense is killing me. I need a real spoiler. I’m a sneak peek addict. It’s a problem, ha ha.

        • Same! What kind of monsters are these people, not giving us a single spoiler?! I nearly cancelled out of protest!

      • Where are you seeing that? Mine hasn’t updated yet either. I was so excited because I thought today would be the day — now that it’s a holiday weekend, does this mean we’ll have to wait until Tuesday? That would be a fail on Sephora’s part, as far as I’m concerned.

        • It is under My Account–>Recent Orders–>then I clicked on the order from today and that Box B description I pasted above is what it showed. It’s still not telling me the actual items included yet. Now some of the possible spoilers make sense (like why there would be 2 bronzers instead of 1) if they are doing different boxes. I checked my bank account and I was billed today, if you haven’t been billed yet I’d guess the Order info won’t show up yet. As per the info they give about Sephora Play you can be billed anywhere between the 1st to the 4th of each month so some ladies might not be able to see which box group they are getting until the 4th… though I suppose it doesn’t matter since we still don’t know for sure what’s going to be in any of them! It would be good to know how many variations they are going to do, I’m hoping it’s just A (oily/combo or something along those lines) and B (normal/dry).

          • Mine says – Box A – Oily/Combo.

          • Thanks. Mine says “PLAY! by SEPHORA / July 2016 Play! Box A- Oily/Combo”

The suspense is hard to take.

          • They finally charged me. Box A for me, too. The fact that there’s no spoilers this month is making me nervous….

  10. @Amy – I may be mistaken, but I thought you were referring to SEPHORA when you asked, “When do they usually show what’s in the box?” That’s why I replied to you that Sephora doesn’t do a reveal until after the boxes have been mailed, but that certain media outlets may get “sneak peeks” (like this lovely site. 🙂 )

    I hope I didn’t confuse you!

Also, you should receive your box the 3rd or 4th week of each month. (I’ve been receiving my boxes the third week). You’ll be charged between the 1st and 4th day of each month. HTH !

  11. Man, I waited so long to subscribe to Play. I finally got in for the may box. I was disappointed in my box that first month, then june came. This sub really is not worth the money. EVERYTHING is tiny. If they call these “deluxe” samples they are crazy. I am unsubbing. I just unsubbed from birchbox as well. Leaving my beloved Boxycharm and my ipsy as the only 2 subs I have. Trust me boxycharm is was more worth it, at least in my opinion. I feel as though Play and BB just have been giving leftovers

    • Oh I so agree! It’s so insulting to pay for a box, look inside, and receive tiny samples that are so clearly marked “Sample-not for re-sale”. And to think I paid Sephora $10 for these?
I took the trip to my free-standing Sephora today to cash in my points and also buy something so I could get the extra 50 points from my playcard. At the register, the SA tells me they’re all out of the 500 point Beauty Insiders gifts and they only have a few of the 100 ones. There’s a Sephora in a JCPenney in the mall next door, so I asked if she could call over there to see if they had any of the points gifts. They only had a few of the 100 point ones also. It seems that what they carry in the store is nowhere near comparable to online as Beauty Insider gifts. If I want to earn the extra 50 points with my Playcard I have to buy something in the store. Then if I want to redeem the points and get something worthwhile, I have to again purchase something else online for free shipping, unless I spend another $10 for the Sephora Flash shipping for a year. Double purchase just to get what I want or I waste those extra 50 points. More money sucked out of me for Sephora’s gain if I allow it. And I’m not falling for it.
Honestly, I walked around their store today, looking for something to buy, and I lost interest. That’s what subscription boxes and stores like TJMaxx will do to you. You have all these bargains that you get and you just can’t justify their prices anymore for full products. Not unless it’s a promo bag of goodies and that’s rare to find in their stores anymore.
I used to love Sephora, but they seem to be changing their model. As others have said, since July’s box is so secretive, it had better be the HG of boxes. Or I can see a lot of cancellations on the horizon.

  12. Hey everyone…

I’m spoiler starved, so I was looking all over and on a Reddit Beauty Box thread I saw we might be getting:
    Ouai Wave Spray

I’m stoked, I know some of you won’t be. Cannot wait to see the actual reveal. I am hoping for one of the new summer lip items Sephora keeps showing, like gorgeous colored balms from Tarte.

    • @Heather – I’ve been wanting to try something by Ouai, so I’m excited to hear it might be one of the items in July’s box! Thanks for posting!

    • Ouai makes alot of sense since they just did this promo thing on snapchat about a number of their hair products. The wave spray looked really nice, I hope its in next months box! I’d really like to try it

  13. Here are some of my guesses (and hopes) for July! Sea salt spray (or dry shampoo? Humidity shield? Would love to receive Ouai, Livingproof or Dry Bar!) , BB cream, lip stain and an SPF setting spray. I would love to get a liquid lipstick but the possibles have thinking “Popsicle stained lips” maybe a lip/cheek stain 2 in 1? I cannot wait! Come on spoilers!!!

  14. When do they usually show what’s in the box?

    • @Amy – Sephora doesn’t reveal the contents until after the boxes have been mailed out. I’m not sure how the “sneak peeks” are known, but maybe certain media outlets are granted access.

      • If you look back on this site full spoilers (that show everything in the boxes) have been made available between the second and forth week of the month proceeding the box. So, I’m anxiously awaiting them, and they will be shown here UNLESS they have stopped as of this box. I’m very excited for my first box.

        • Preceding*

        • Ah, I see. Do they usually start shipping them out on the first of the month? This is my first month. I have been trying to join for ages.

          • So…it’s my first month too! Trying to take the edge off of leaving Birchbox. (Left more because of the CEO’s comments about subscription boxes being boring and having to “coddle” her customers. Can’t get over the sting – I could have eventually adjusted to losing the point system, but…I digress.

On this and other sites I’ve seen full spoilers for Play posted between the 12th and 27th of the month BEFORE the next month’s boxes are mailed. And from the Play site I can tell you that we are billed in the first week and receive the box during the last week of the month.

          • @Amy – I’ve been receiving my boxes the third week of each month, but Sephora states “…should arrive between the third and fourth week of each month.” You’ll receive an email from Sephora when the box ships, and it will include a tracking number. Also, we are charged the monthly fee between the 1st and 4th day of each month. HTH

            Here’s a link for FAQs :

          • Thanks everyone! I’ve been trying to hunt down spoilers, but it looks like the boxes are going to be somewhat customized this month.

        • @Heather – I thought Amy was referring to Sephora when she asked, “When do they usually show what’s in the box?” . That’s why I replied to Amy that Sephora doesn’t do a reveal until after the boxes have been mailed, but that certain media outlets may get “sneak peeks.”

I’ve been getting Play! by Sephora since the first box in Sept, but only found out about this lovely site a couple of months ago, when I stumbled upon May’s sneak peek.

  15. Maybe too faced eyeliner ? Just guessing

  16. July will be my first month with Play and I’m DYING for spoilers. Is it just me or is this month way slower than previous months when it comes to the sneak peeks?

    • so true! it’s my first month as well and im dying to see what’ inside D:

      • Right?! I even looked back and all of the previous month’s full spoiler post dates and they were all much earlier than the 24th. #dying

  17. I have no idea what will be included in July’s box, but when I look at the pic of the pastel “popsicles” (or frozen yogurt bars?), I’m reminded of bars of soap. : ) I guess it’s because of the grooves in the “popsicles” / frozen yogurt bars. Doubt we will receive mini bars of soap in the next box, though. haha

  18. I was almost desperate to get off the wait list tat I had been on since September because of the amazing value the boxes seemed to have. Now I’m almost wishing I hadn’t gotten off the wait list. The value of these boxes/bags have gone down tremendously. I haven’t even received my first box and I’m tempted to cancel. I am so disappointed.

    • That*

    • The first 8 boxes I received (Sept – April) were great! May’s box was a disappointment, and subpar compared to the previous boxes. June’s box was better than May’s, but I do see the boxes going “down hill.” From what I hear by those who subscribe to a lot of beauty boxes, it seems to be common for beauty boxes to be great for awhile, but then they inevitably become something just average or even disappointing. Guess they need to build up a subscriber base by initially offering great goodies, but once they reach a certain number of subscribers, they don’t need to try as hard? I don’t know. I’ll continue subscribing to Play! by Sephora because I still think it’s fun for just $10 a month, but the boxes definitely have become weaker.

  19. I’m guessing something with SPF like a tinted moisturizer. A beachy salt spray probably and maybe a cream eyeshadow or something waterproof like the new too faced mascara.

  20. Well I got mine today and it’s ok, but I won’t use half of it.

    – Tarteguard 30 SPF lotion .23 oz
    – They’re Real! Mascara .10 oz
    – Bumble & Bumble Don’t Blow It .5 oz
    – Bare Minerals bareSkin bronzer .10 oz
    – Becca Backlight Priming Filter .20 oz
    – Tocca Beauty perfume sample .05 oz

I’m pretty close to cancelling this one.

    • My hair product was almost 3/4 empty, already, too. I have really oily skin, so I can’t use the primer. I have medium skin, so don’t need the bronzer. I do love the mascara, and am unsure about the sunscreen, but it won’t last long, and I’m not paying for that! My everyday lotion has SPF in it. So disappointed in these boxes! Glad someone else feels the same. My husband was looking at the products I had sitting on the table and was shocked, “You paid $10 for that?”. He’s been to Sephora enough with me, and seen me get other boxes to know it’s not a good deal. I get more products with their gift with purchase the do occasionally. I got twice that many with the holiday GWP, for heavens sake. I’m still using half of them, TBH.

    • I received my second box and I honestly don’t know why people think this box is super great. The samples are very small IMO. I have very long, thick hair and by them giving me a tiny tube of hair stuff doesn’t give me a chance to know if it works good or not. I am going to cancel this one and birchbox because neither one is worth $10. I wanted to make a comment about the waitlist, I was initially put on the waitlist and just kept checking back every couple days by just going back on their site and I “got lucky” and it let me join. I never got an email telling me that I had a spot, that’s how I got in.

  21. I was pretty disappointed in this months box. I’ve noticed that most everything in the boxes recently are past birthday gifts or items that were 100 point perks at one point. Seems a bit of a sham if you’re paying $10 for it. I already have 3 tubes of They’re Real, and love it, but don’t need another. Depending on July’s box, I will probably be cancelling. Was worth trying for a treat, but you can honestly get the same thing by going into the store and just ASKING for samples of what you’d like to try, and get them for free. I do this for skin care and perfume all the time. They customize them up and I’m on my way. I can try high end stuff, and don’t have to wait for my box, or pay, or worry if it’ll be my color or for my skin type.

  22. A colorful popsicle. Clinque pop lipstick or new nail polishes or sunscreen or eyeshadow or self tanner. Guessing

  23. Their web site were you sign up must be acting up with all of the people from birchbox. It took 15 tries in 2 days and I got subscribed. The site keeped taking me to their rule page and then told me how to sign up an I followed that pages direction and it went though. First it didn’t take me to rule page just said I was on the wait list. Its overloaded.

  24. I’m thinking it’s the “MILK Makeup~Cooling Water Stick”!! They’ve been really pushing it for the past couple months. Emails, tutorials, reveals.. It’s been everywhere. That’s my guess as their cool-down item.??? Along with after sun type product, SPF item, spray water, wipes, lip treatment & of course a tan towel or 2!??

  25. Popsicles?

  26. I guess I’m the only one who can’t get off the wait list ?

    • Keep checking your emails, I just got off today!

    • I have one email that has been on the wait list since the week it was first announced, then 4 others that are within the last 2 months. Guess which one got off the wait list yesterday! The 4 that signed up a month or two ago, still nothing for my original email. There was definitely something wrong with the original sign ups.

    • Hi Alex. My name is Tina. And I was on the waitlist since April. And yesterday after getting a notification that MSA had a spoiler alert on Play by Sephora , I clicked on the Play by Sephora (in blue) here in her page, it immediately took me to the Sephora site, and I (once again, for the 10th time ) entered my email for the signup for Play subscription button and wham! It started prompting me for info dor the actual signup for the sub. service. I thought it was a glitch, but it turns out I’m really subscribed and will receive the July box. I also made my first purchase on Tues at 4am and received my Sun Safety Kit yesterday. I don’t know if that purchase helped me or not (with being able to signup ) I never have gotten an email about “getting off the waitlist ” tho. Like MSA. had said in her previous blog on Sephora’s Play in June about the “waitlist situation ” she was saying to try another email or what I did even was to go to the site and enter your email and see what happens do this a couple times in a week or like me since I wanted this more than air lol.? ? I just kept checking the site, i came back to this post clicked the “blue” Play by Sephora at the top of the page. After it says, I have the first sneak peek at Julys spoiler. Its in blue, click that it takes you to their site enter your email and see what happens! ? Good Luck and I’ll be crossing my fingers for you Alex ??

      • I also had just bought something a couple of days before I got off the wait list and I received no letter just checked on their site

    • I got off the waiting list as well can’t wait to get my Play box

  27. I’m so freaking excited for June! The only thing about July that would possibly disappoint me would be a sea salt spray. They are just not for curly haired girls. It makes me look like Bozo the Frizzy Haired Clown. I’m so happy Sephora opened up to everyone when they did. They’re taking the edge off my big Birchbox disappointment.

    • They are not for girls with straight hair either. I tried it just to try it and my hair looked like a bird’s nest.

      • Lol. I have yet to see a real life person achieve the sea salt spray look I see in magazines. I should have taken a picture the one time I tried it. It was comical.

        • I used my the one that U got in my Petit Vour box and it gave me gorgeous beachy waves!! I have natural thick hair that is curly to root. However, I used this when my hair was straight and it made my hair look AMAZING!!!!!! 🙂 I plan on getting the full size after my sample runs out!

        • I used my the one that U got in my Petit Vour box and it gave me gorgeous beachy waves!! I have natural thick hair that is curly to root. However, I used this when my hair was straight and it made my hair lffook AMAZING!!!!!! 🙂 I plan on getting the full size after my sample runs out!

        • My hair does that on its own without products. Started only in my late 30s. But, it’s kind of pointless for me to use those sprays when I don’t need them.

        • I managed it once (I have fine, slightly wavy hair), but it took several hours for my hair to “settle” into the waves, and it felt so disgusting (sticky/tacky/grimy) in my hair that I would never do it again.

        • Me too! I have straight hair and I have tried at least 7 “beach wave” products , thanks to my sub box addiction ! Now I have 10+ different ones and can’t even give them away . They came in almost every major summer box so I really hope I don’t get anymore !

          • Nicole I’ll trade you for the lot of them if you like! They usually are pretty good with my naturally curly hair.

      • I have super fine, thin blonde hair. It’s straight normally but with a ton of humidity it’s got a very slight wave. A trick I’ve found to getting the sea salt sprays to work is to put it in wet hair and blow dry, then rub a teensy bit of hair oil or pomade in your hands and twirl your hair with your fingers. It still won’t work for everyone but I’ve had fun using that method with my hair 🙂

        • Another trick with wet hair is to use some kind of styling cream before spraying. The spray is held better by the cream. I love salt sprays when using this tactic. I suppose you could also do this method with dry hair if you use a light weight cream.

      • As I type this I’m sitting here letting my hair dry after using the sea salt spray from the Rachel Zoe box. Like every other one I’ve tried (I’ve been a sub box fanatic for over 3 years and have tried them all), it’s leaving my hair massively sticky, tangled and messy. In general my hair looks and feels disgusting. I have naturally curly hair that I’ve straightened for decades. If it air dries it is verrrrry wavy, no spray required. The addition of these sprays does nothing to improve the look or texture of my hair and that’s putting it kindly. I have waist length, thick hair and I’m officially giving up on these sprays. My daughters can’t use them either so I’m going to add Asian hair to the list of types of hair that don’t take well to sea salt sprays (I’m not Asian though). Now I’m off to re-wash my hair because I can’t stand how sticky it feels, a task I loathe doing once let alone twice in one day.

    • I have curly hair, too, but have never tried a sea salt spray. Thank you for the warning!!!

    • Yeah I don’t have the results I would like, but I am kinda addicted to the smell, truth be told. I live on the northern Calif coast so I get all the humidity hair horrors naturally, ahem….

    • Hi, I was just reading your comment and I feel the same way you do. I received an email yesterday that Birchbox is changing the way they do their points system, thos totally sucks!! You will receive points in July the second week, after that you only receive points for making purchases. And let’s be honest I only made purchases through Birchbox whwn having enough points to get a “discount ” off of their high prices. So sad.

      • I’m sorry, to all. I put this comment on the wrong blog page.?.

    • I haven’t tried a sea salt spray (although I think have like 2 sitting around from subs), but I have curly hair (like a 2C or 3A on the curly girl spectrum) and use DevaCurl religiously and whenever I get out of our pool (which is a salt water pool) if I run my super wide tooth comb through my hair (to get out any tangles/knots) and then french braid it before letting it dry, when it actually gets fairly dry I have must calmer wavy-like hair. This is without adding any extra DevaCurl Gel or Mousse products beyond what might have been in my hair before getting in the pool.

TLDR: Try braiding it after spraying it!

      • I have extremely straight, extra-long (almost hip length) hair that’s resistant to any attempt to curl or wave. I braid it after washing it and when I unbraid it, it has really nice waves; the only way I’ve ever been able to get any sort of waves in it. I’ve tried numerous “beachy” products, none of which work.

  28. I hope they include a face spray of some sort, those are my favorite to use before makeup, during makeup, after makeup, and without makeup lol. Plus a travel size spray and a beauty blender mini are perfect to take with on trips to the zoo & park.

    • YES!

  29. I’m…rather cautiously excited about this!

As long as there’s no self tanner, bronzer or sea salt spray, I think I’ll be happy with whatever they’ve come up with!

  30. Last month was “minimalists”. This month is “effortless”. Doesn’t feel like much of a different theme to me… maybe they’re taking it easy for the summer…

    • Lol… or putting “minimal effort” into curating the boxes. Sorry, couldn’t help myself.

  31. Benefit Deluxe size “They’re Real!” Lengthening & Volumizing Mascara, Deluxe Size Tarte Tarteguard 30 Sunscreen Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF, Bumble and Bumble Don’t Blow It, Deluxe Size, Becca Backlight Priming Filter, Bareminerals Bareskin Sheer Sun Serum Bronzer (Full Size is already sold out on their website, or last time I checked anyways) and Tocca Florence parfume spray. (I’m not VIBROUGE & didn’t get just my box today… **wink wink**)

    • Yes, that’s the June box. This post is a sneak peek for July. 🙂

    • How’s the bronzer? I think this is the thing I’m most curious about in this box.

    • Is This what we are getting?

  32. Agree with 2 in 1. Oily skin product, blemish product, face cleanser. Please no more tanning or face spf…set on that for sure. Maybe a toner for uneven skin tones or sun damage. Something for a dewy look. Light pigment makeup and maybe waterproof. Blotting tissues. Pretty sure the list is endless, lol. I’m excited though, great timing to get a first box.

    • Oops, something to treat sunburn to try would be awesome.

      • This would be great!

        • Thanks Lori ? You just made my day..(and it’s over so i hope Morning that feeling continues) ..I needed that. it’s amazing to me that a stranger can sometimes have such an ability to turn a horrible day around with a simple sentence. have a great weekend and thanks again.

    • Last month’s primer from Becca is a dewy product (No dewy things for July, please, it’s a terrible idea for those of us with oil-derrick face+Southern summer temps!).

  33. I still love sea salt sprays 🙂

    • I tried one for the first time today. Not sure how to feel about it yet, need to test how much to use by playing around with it. It definitely helped with my already curly hair by taming it some and not looking soooo frizzy, lol. I have tried so many curl hair products and have never been happy to just leave my hair natural so I have high hopes for it.

    • I do too. I use them all the time and love trying new ones. Keep ’em coming! 🙂

  34. Yes to: all waterproof makeup, bb cream, maybe scrub (prep skin for tanning?), after sun lotion, canned water is fine. No to: the dreaded sea salt spray, spf moisturizers (I just have too many), lip products (except for bare minerals moxie – the only lip product I own that don’t cause allergies).

  35. I just signed up for this one after the Birchbox news yesterday. I was hoping my subscription might be able to start with June but it doesn’t look like it; oh well! Still happy! 🙂

  36. Waterproof eyeliner/eyeshadow (not mascara), highlighters, setting spray, some kind of after-sun skincare would all be awesome.

    • I didn’t think of setting spray!! That would be amazing 🙂 🙂 🙂 good call!

  37. When I think of effortless summer, I think of a dewy look. I think of a peachy or light pink blush, a highlighter, nude nail polish, and a light lip stain or lip gloss. It would be nice to get some of these items along with a tool like a brush, a Moroccan hair oil, or even some sort of skin shower item like a Konjac sponge.

    • I also think a lip scrub would be nice 🙂

      • That’s pretty much how I interpret effortless summer too- I hope you are correct!

    • Yes to all of that! It’s exactly what I think of too.

  38. Maybe it’s some of those Beauty Blender blotting papers. Or humidity hairspray.

    • Those items sound really nice!

    • I would LOVE an anti-humidity hair spray. I’m always hesitant to buy the full size of hair products without trying them first since some just fall flat (literally) — so this would be GREAT.

      • Everything sounds great except sea salt hair spray, mascara, black eyeliner, red lipstick, red nail polish, and please no more sun screen products.anything else would be awesome

    • Yes — I was also thinking some blotting papers. I haven’t needed to use them (ever) until this Summer, so I would be happy if they were included.

  39. I am loving the Korres overnight mask from May, can’t wait to see what July has in store.

    • Me too! and it was such a decent size. I’ve been using it every third night or so and still seem to have plenty left.

    • I love it too! Bought a favorites kit from Korres.

  40. My money is on yet more sunscreen… hope I’m wrong!

  41. PLEASE no tanning products!!!! I’ll take canned water or pretty much anything over tanning products.

    • ditto

    • I’ll also accept canned water lol.

    • Agree! I don’t use any self tanners at all and hate getting them as much as I do mascara and black eyeliners. On the flip side, I love the canned waters lol. That was my first purchase ever from BB years ago when I saved up enough points. Especially if you live in a dry climate, they’re a life saver.

    • Same!

I actually enjoy canned water. Summers where I live are hot and humid and they can be a life safer when you’re in 95+ degree heat watching your younger brother’s soccer match.

      • Agreed – the same (for me anyway) for bronzers….. Don’t use them on my Italian olive skin (doubt they would even show up). They seem a “filler”, as in “we need one more thing for our boxes before they go out”.

    • Me too. I don’t need anymore sunblock.

  42. I love your thoughts! It’s just to funny! I’m excited and hope they come up with some great waterproof products that I have never tried before cause I live in Florida and nothing so far out lives this horrible humidity. A spray would be nice. Summer boxes are my fave sense I live in almost year round summer weather. Thank you Liz!

  43. Yay – ice cream!! 😉
It’s too vague for me to figure it out…lol

  44. 🙂 I ♡ Steve Martin

    • I loved him more when he was funny.

      • I saw him live last month and he was still hilarious! And he plays a mean Banjo! 🙂

  45. Yay MSA for spoilers, I’m all ready like is it July yet so I can get my next target box ? And other goodies haha. Effortless summer beauty- sounds right up my alley! I’d love a mattifying item, and a nice natural lip product perhaps? a cooling spray would be nice too! Can’t wait 🙂

  46. Please no more sea salt sprays!

    • That, and no thermal waters please. I know some people love them, but they are pointless if you spend all your time in the air conditioning.

    • Not everyone gets multiple boxes, I would love a sea salt spray!

    • Agreed! Enough with the sea salt sprays! I keep gifting them, but it’s at the point that no one I know wants them! That goes for the tanners too! Seriously. STOP!

    • I second that I. Thinking I could spray big foot and still have enough for a small country

      • I literally just lmao ? Great comment.

      • Hahah me too! Good one ?

  47. Tanning stuff…bronzing stuff…beachy hair….Idk but it would be nice to see something different lol 😛
