Poe-Land: The Hallowed Haunts of Edgar Allen Poe by J.W. Ocker - Value $15.30

I haven't had the chance to start this book yet, but it looks great! Plus it got five stars on Amazon! They write:

Follow the footsteps of the father of American horror fiction!

Edgar Allan Poe was an oddity. His life was odd, his literature is odd, his legacy is odd. Actually, his legacy is the oddest part about him. In Poe-Land: The Hallowed Haunts of Edgar Allan Poe, J. W. Ocker explores Poe's strange physical legacy along the East Coast and across the ocean by touring Poe's homes, examining artifacts from his life--locks of his hair, pieces of his coffin, original manuscripts, the bed where his wife died--and traveling to the many memorials dedicated to Edgar Allan Poe.

Along the way, Ocker meets Poe fans from a range of backgrounds and professions--actors, museum managers, collectors, writers, professors, businessmen, sculptors, historians--who have dedicated some part of their lives to Poe and his legacy. Poe-Land is a unique travel diary that follows the afterlife of the poet, author, and critic who invented detective fiction, advanced the emerging genre of science fiction, and elevated the horror genre.

The book included this book plate, signed by the author! That's so awesome! It increases the value of this box a good measure for me, personally. Very special.

Nevermore Amaretto & Reanimator Morning Blend Coffees - Value $5.20 each

I have actually had coffee from Coffee Shop of Horrors before, and their blends are great. Plus they're really wacky and fun!

beautiful-madness-jun-cookies

Classic Recipe Shortbread Bites by Willa's Shortbread - Value $5.95

As you may know, I am off the sugar for now, so these went to my husband, who loves plain shortbread cookies. He said they were delicious!

beautiful-madness-jun-candle

Edgar Allen Poe Travel Candle from PaddyWax Library Collection - Value $6.95

I love the tin this candle is in; I don't think I've had one like this before. I am also a big fan of anything that is "abscynthe" scented, as this candle claims to be. I'm not 100% sure what abscynthe smells like, but abscynthe-scented items usually smell great to me. This smells so good!

beautiful-madness-jun-print

E is for Edgar 8" x 8" print by Drew Blank - Value $5

This is so cute! I hope we get more of these in coming boxes; I'm going to hang this over by the bookshelves. It would look great with company!

beautiful-madness-jun-socks

Winking Cat Socks by Sock It To Me - Value $12

These socks might be my favorite item in the box! I seriously needed some cat knee-highs. I love them!

Verdict: I think this was an amazing first box from Beautiful Madness Book Case, and I can't wait to get the next one! I will definitely use everything in the box, and the themed curation was very tight. I love that! The value of this box was about $58, which is great for a $46.50 box, especially a book box. What a fun box!

What a great box! I usually steer clear of most book boxes because I don’t care for fiction but this is really cool. A note about the Paddywax Library series: they’re like potato chips. As soon as you finish this one you’ll want another! I have the Ralph Waldo Emerson one right now and even my (candle-ambivalent) husband likes it. He gets a different one in his stocking each Christmas. ?

Very fun!! I love Edgar Allen Poe, though, so that makes me somewhat biased. 😉

Thanks for the review…what a great box.. Curated so well. So worth the price too. If it’s not someone’s box worth keeping…well what a beautiful complete package to gift to an avid reader without the hassle of doing the shopping.

Oh my, great box! Wish I could budget it in but with my other dozen boxes it would mean getting rid of some. Book boxes are some of my favorite too. Fifty dollars is alot for a book box though 🙁

I totally feel the same way. Lots of good stuff in this box, but almost $50 is a bit much for me every month.

Wow! This is well done! I just checked. There are a few left. The book, E is for Edgar print and those socks sold it for me! I am a sucker for a book subscription. I’m keeping my eye on this one. For now, I’ll buy this as a one-time box and see what Chapter 2 brings!
