May’s theme seems to be Sherlock Holmes, but sadly, I don’t know anything at all about Sherlock Holmes. I’m not a fan, and I don’t think I’ve ever read one book or seen one movie about him. On the right is the monthly magnet, which I’m guessing is Sherlock Holmes and Watson, but it also kind of looks like Hall & Oates.

This is the back of the postcard (above). One thing you might notice about the postcard is that there is no information given about the items included. My experience so far with this subscription has been that the pieces they send are impossible to find online for sale, so the values listed below are guesses on my part.

Every month’s goodies are usually all packaged in a little muslin bag with a graphic related to the theme.

Head Wrap – Value $8?

I actually like this head wrap; I wear these all the time in the summer. I don’t know what the significance of this wrap is in terms of Sherlock Holmes, though. Why does this remind me of Zumba wear so much?

Earrings – Value $7?

I guess these are busts of Sherlock Holmes and Watson also? I’m sorry, I just don’t know! I think even if I was into Holmes, I would think these were strange earrings. I’d have to be a mega-fan to wear these!

Sherlock Holmes Charm Necklace – Value $22?

I think if I was a Sherlock Holmes fan, I would like this necklace a lot. I totally get the pipe and the hat! I don’t get the quote, but I wouldn’t expect to. It’s a nice necklace anyway.

Verdict: This month’s Fandom of the Month Club was a big miss for me. I want to point out what Fandom OTM Club says on their website about this issue:

“If you are a person who would be devastated by receiving merchandise from a fandom you don’t love, sadly this club is not for you. We hate turning people away, but we hate upsetting people even more!”

Very well said! It’s the risk you run when you’re a subscription box addict! In terms of value, I have no idea if my guesses are correct, but it seems like a great value for under $20 to me.

What do you think of Fandom of the Month Club? Are you a Sherlock Holmes fangirl (or fanboy)?

  1. I might never forgive you for that Hall & Oates comment! LOL. Also, I am a huge Sherlock fan, but the only thing I really liked was the headband. Those faceless magnets creep me out. I look at the reviews for this box every month, but I go back and forth, and have yet to pull the trigger, so I think that means it’s not really for me.

The reason there is a big fandom for Sherlock Holmes right now is because of the modern version BBC series starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. It’s an excellent show, and it’s on Netflix, so you might want to check it out.
