This month's album is "In Our Heads" by Hot Chip! Hot Chip is one of the top bands on the electro-pop scene, and I think this is their best album! Electro-pop is not my favorite genre, but if I were to own any, this is the one I would want to own. This is also not their newest album, and it kind of makes me wonder why Vinyl Me, Please would send an older album out. They have done that a few times in the past as well. Anyway, I love the album cover! Isn't it pretty?
This is the reverse side of the album cover with the tracks listed. That's not a shadow in the lower left - it's the color of the album cover. Also very pretty!
You know I'm happy when:
A. It's a double album!
and
B. The vinyl is colored!
When I opened the album, these two cards fell out. On the right is the card with the code for the digital download of the album. I love when they do that! As much as I love vinyl, having a digital copy of your music is just so handy! Additionally, they sent a download code for two tracks from Hot Chip's newest album. Bonus!
On the left is a postcard picturing the members of Hot Chip - a Vinyl Me, Please exclusive! On the back it reads, "Dear friend - I do hope you enjoy this wonderful record album. We tried our hardest to make it both informative and entertaining. With love, Joe Goddard HOT CHIP 27/01/15"
This is the included / paired artwork for this month. I love it! I think this might be my favorite art from Vinyl Me, Please yet! I love elephants! Original artwork is by Michelle Holley.
Every month, inside the packaging is a poem or some prose by VMP's co-founder Tyler Barstow. I haven't been much of a fan in the past, but this one is actually kind of good. Maybe I am too critical when it comes to the written word?
This month's cocktail is the Dawn of Summer, and it says it was created exclusively for Vinyl Me, Please! My only issue is that I've never heard of two of the ingredients before. I'm not much of a gin drinker, though, so I might have to pass on this one. It looks fun, though!
Verdict: Last month I said that I am really ready for an album from VMP that is a little less indy and a little more rock. I'm still waiting for that to happen! Meanwhile, this was a great month to be a VMP subscriber anyway. The album is definitely one to own, which is what they promise from their curation. The artwork is fabulous this month! The prose / poem is not bad, and the cocktail looks like it would be good for someone who enjoys gin. It's getting pretty close to a grand slam, actually!
