Julep I Woke Up Like This Mystery Box Review Box

Lately it seems like Julep’s mystery boxes have been improving in curation, so even though I don’t need any more nail polish, I couldn’t resist their latest I Woke Up Like This Mystery Box.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Julep I Woke Up Like This Mystery Box Review Polish

Julep Nail Color in Shari – Retail Value $14

Julep Nail Color in Aurora – Retail Value $14

Julep Nail Color in Tanith – Retail Value $14

I couldn’t be happier with these colors! I love the exclusive Tanith color made for this mystery box (described as a warm putty with gold micro-glitter). And the other two shades look beautiful with Tanith – the color choices for this mystery box feel as deliberate as the monthly Maven collections.

Julep I Woke Up Like This Mystery Box Review Lip

Julep Blank Canvas Plumping Lip Primer – Retail Value $22

Julep Plush Pout Lip Crayon in Aurora – Retail Value $16

This Plush Pout Lip Crayon is one of my favorite Julep beauty items ever – so I’m thrilled to get it in another color. It’s a light and moisturizing lip crayon, with a good amount of pigment.

The lip primer I’m not too crazy about – partly because I don’t usually use a primer on my lips, and I’m just not crazy about the formula anyway.

Julep I Woke Up Like This Mystery Box Review Mask

Julep Night Shift Sleeping Mask – Retail Value $34

I’ve been meaning to try the Sleeping Mask since I received it a few months ago, so I suppose this is a good reminder. If you’ve tried it and recommend it let me know!

Verdict: This box has a retail value of $114. Even though I wouldn’t pay full retail value for this items, I definitely think the box is worth the $25 I spent on it. And I’m really thrilled to see that Julep has been doing a better job at curating these boxes lately. (In the past I used to warn in mystery box posts that the nail colors would typically be random from past seasons).

Did you get a Mystery Box this time? What did you think of it?

  1. I bought this box near the end of the sale after seeing all of the reviews / spoilers so I guess I blame myself for waiting too long and should have expected it to be something else 🙁 Not at all happy with my box and the other 2 colors because I was hoping for the same one that most of the other people got but such is luck. No mask, no plush, no aurora polish (was looking forward to that one most) My box matched that of Ashley and sadly feels like a waste of money this time.

  2. I too got this box and really loved it. Although now I’m starting to wonder if they are making these boxes more standardized which would be a little disappointing. My sense was that the past mystery boxes I received were a little more “mystery”. I love the Tanith color though and am looking forward to the February exclusive polish as well. Bring on the sparkle! =o)

  3. I got the exact same box Liz!
I was pleasantly surprised by the Plush Pout in Aurora Pink – it’s more flattering on that some of the swatches I’ve seen online. I agree with you – I don’t see myself using the Lip Primer, but everything else was a good value for me!

  4. My box was lost in the mail earlier this week. I contacted Julep and they sent out another box within 24 hours with absolutely zero hassle. Great customer service experience and this is the first time I’ve ever had to reach out to their customer service (I only buy their mystery boxes, I don’t do a monthly sub). The new box lists out everything that they’re sending me and I think it’s just okay. Who needs 3 eyeliners in one box?! Although I am really looking forward to trying out their sea salt spray, I had my fingers crossed that it would be included.

Gel Eye Glider – Rich Brown
Gel Eye Glider – Smoky Taupe Shimmer
Gel Eye Glider – Bronze Shimmer
    Blank Canvas Mattifying Eye Primer
    Moisture Mask Trio
    Elixir Organic Argan Oil
    Sea Salt Texture Spray
    Julep Emery Board

    • Julep’s Sea Salt Texturizing Spray is wonderful and one of my favorite sea salt sprays ever! I have naturally wavy hair and just a little spritz goes a long way!
I usually feel the same way about eyeliners (who needs *another* black eyeliners in subscription boxes, right?), but I LOVE julep’s gel eye gliders! I ended up purchasing smoky taupe shimmer, bronze shimmer, regal teal, navy smoke, and the purple one because I love the formula that much. And they all last all day without smudging or rubbing off. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised Crystal!

      • My hair is naturally wavy too, I’m obsessed with Bumble’s Surf Spray. I have so many eyeliners and I’ve heard really good things about these gel liners. I think I’m going to go have to watch some YouTube beauty tutorials so I can start actually using my eyeliners. LOL

    • Crystal, I’m so jealous that you got the bronze shimmer eye glider. I’ve been wanting it for two months! lol

  5. My box was quite different. I received Tanith (as promised), and my other two colors were Briana and Sawyer. They do not coordinate with Tanith at all, in my opinion. I also received the Blank Canvas Lip Primer. My other items were: Lip Gloss in Polished, Gel Eye Glider in Olive, Gel Eye Glider Sharpener and an Emery Board. Why, oh why, didn’t I get a Plush Pout?! I covet those. haha Although, I added a duo of them to my February Maven box, so I guess I’ll live. lol I don’t think I’ll use the primer, and I already have the sharpener. I looooove their gel eye gliders, and Olive is a new color for me. Although, I’m not sure it’s *my* color. I was a little underwhelmed by this box. Oh, but my COLORFUN add on was Martina, which is the ruby birthstone color (July baby here). It is gorgeous!

  6. I did not get the primer in my box, had no idea it was included – This was my first Julep mystery box in 6 months. – Every mystery box from them I got prior I did not like, this one I do. I like the pretty nail polish as a spoiler, that is why I decided to take a change and get this box. I’m happy, except now I’m wondering where my primer is. I have a lot of sleep of masks from memeboxes I use, so I’m glad to see this in the Julep box. I use sleep masks at night and during the day since this winter has been extremely cold and dry. Skipped makeup completely. Use the sleeping mask twice a day, and my skin is in great shape for as cold as it has been. Because of this mystery box, I’ll sign up for the next one Julep has. Glad they improved.

  7. I really liked this box, it was the first mystery box I ever bought from Julep. I love the lip gloss and night mask, the lip primer is ok the formula/texture is a little odd. But all in all happy with it; I also got my dermstore grab bags today too that I was happy with.

  8. I love Korean cosmetics so I’ve been using sleeping masks for a while and love them. I wasn’t expecting the Julep one to be too exciting but it has become my favorite! I actually like it better my previous favorites among the Korean brands. I have quite dry, sensitive skin and I load it on at night in a thick layer. It doesn’t seem to rub off on my pillow or anything. It smells great too!

  9. i love the night shift mask. I got it on Black Friday and it smells divine. Sometimes I don’t wash it off in the morning, but I try to remember since I am prone to chin acne! I think you’ll like it. A little goes a Long way. Also, the lip primer doesn’t even work when it’s cold in the house/outside so I hope you keep it in a warm spot!
