Walmart Beauty Box Subscription Review – December 2014 Box

The Walmart Beauty Box is a new quarterly subscription box from Walmart. They feature brands you will find at Walmart, plus coupons.

FYI - I believe they ask for your birthday at sign up to customize the box based on age. (There may be other reasons for box variation as well). For reference, this is a box for a 30 year old.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Walmart Beauty Box Subscription Review – December 2014 Lipstick

Jergens BB Body Correcting Skin Cream – 1 oz Value $1.60

Mabelline Color Sensational Lip Stick in Maple Kiss (925) - FULL SIZE! Value $5

I've tried this BB Body Cream before thanks to subscription boxes. It is a lightweight lotion that absorbs quickly. My only issue with it is the scent. It's a perfume like scent, that can be a little overpowering to me if I apply it all over my legs.

I lucked out on the color of this lipstick - it's a good neutral shade for me. The finish isn't too shiny either.

Walmart Beauty Box Subscription Review – December 2014 Olay

OLAY Fresh Effects Everything Off! Deluxe Make-Up Removal Wet Cloths (7 Pack) - Value $1.25

Nivea Cocoa Butter Body Lotion - Sample

I'm never happy about tiny foil packet samples, but makeup remover wipes are always good!

Walmart Beauty Box Subscription Review – December 2014 Shampoo

L'Oreal OleoTherapy Oil Infused Shampoo - 2 oz Value $1.50

L'Oreal OleoTherapy Oil Infused Conditioner - 2 oz Value $1.50

I was surprised to see that in addition to being sulfate free, these are also paraben free and vegan!

Walmart Beauty Box Subscription Review – December 2014 Coupons

The box also came with a $1 off coupon for Maybelline and Nivea.

Verdict: This box has a value of about $11. The value isn't as high as the first Walmart Beauty Box, but I think it is still pretty good for a $5 box. Do you subscribe to Walmart Beauty Box? What did you get this quarter?

Just got my spring box. Once again, no make up in my spring “old lady box”. Forty somethings like some color too….For $5 though, it’s ok. There are a few things I am interested in trying.

I just received my first box and it looks like it has left overs from the last box, I swapped for one last time and the only difference is:
Bert Bees Firming Serum
Ken Paves Shampoo, Conditioner & Thickening Mask (foil packets)

From the last box:
Loreal Shampoo & Conditioner Trial Size
Cocoa Butter Lotion
Lady Gaga Perfume Sample
Cocoa Butter Skin Therapy Oil Sample

Maybe it’s because it’s my first box and they gave me items they had left, not sure, don’t see a charge either, so not sure what’s going on there.

Don’t get me wrong, for $5, it totally worth it, but I hope next time, I get something better!!

(maybe I should change my age), lol,,,i’m totally kidding.

I ordered one for my mom, I can’t wait to see what she gets for her age.

I’m in my early 30’s and my Winter box which was my first that I purchased in January didn’t have any of the things pictured in 30 year old box. Apparently I’m in the “Trendsetter 2” category with the WM box people.

I think that they did charge me when I placed the order.

Reply ButtonReply

Yogamom67

It was for me, of course! But you can only order one box per address. Beautybox.walmart.com.

Reply ButtonReply

Kenya

Do they charge you right when you place the order?

Reply ButtonReply

Yogamom67

Yes, they are available. I just ordered one for my husband at his office

Reply ButtonReply

Carrie P

Do they have a men’s box?! I told my husband no. If they do I will definitely be ordering him one.

Kenya

Are wal mart spring boxes available now? Did I miss the post?

Reply ButtonReply

Bish

I was charged on March 9th and March 18th…I’m assuming that I just eeked in for winter and the second charge was spring?? I haven’t gotten any notification that either has shipped..
When I try to log in it says “Our Box site can currently support only one themed Sample Boxes per email. Please use a different email address to proceed your subscription. We are working to support all Sample Boxes with a single email address.” and won’t let me sign on. Is anyone else having trouble?

I also had the same problem, called them, emailed them, no response! I called my bank and had them to reverse charges and also stopped them from anymore charges! I think this is a poor customer service from Walmarts side!!

Yogamom67

I wasn’t able to log-in to my own account either – got the same message about using a different e-mail address. I’m not sure if I’ve been charged once or twice for the Spring Box. I’d better check my statement. Thanks for the heads up!

Iesha

I had the same issue and emailed them but had no response. I eventually called and they said that it has been an issue that is happening to many people. When you first order and were billed the system was still registering the Winter box but they had sold out. Recently, they have been sending out the Spring box and switched the system which then recharged people. They are working on reversing those who were charged twice, but if you call they can put you on a sort of “priority” list.

I had the same issue. I did a reset password then I was able to sign in!

Kristin

I’m having the same issue when I try to sign in! I sent them an email about it but haven’t heard back yet…

PA Anna

My spring box shipped. It says Classic Wave 1.

Reply ButtonReply

Jade

When do your first box ship out? I signed up and haven’t heard anything at all, email them 3 times and called still no reply. I have already been charged for a winter box.

I just received my box (after a long wait) and I am very impressed. I got Rimmel Lash Accelerator mascara, Hard Candy lip gloss,Dove hair oil, sample sized Neutrogena face cleanser and sample(Loreal and John Frieda)shampoos and conditioners. The mascara alone was worth the $5. The Dove oil is my new favorite and I’ll be purchasing it as soon as I run out.

I am still waiting for my second box. Not happy with the service at all.

Miki

I got charged for my 2nd box on 01/12/2015, I thought they said they wouldn’t charge you until it was to be shipped (not counting the 1st box) I haven’t received any update on it, is this happening to anyone else?

Reply ButtonReply

Wanda Oliver

I have not received my box either. Called them and they never got back to me. Trying to reach them now but can’t find the number.

Reply ButtonReply

Dean

What did Walmart Beauty say when you contacted them?

Reply ButtonReply

Miki

I called 5-6 times and even left a voicemail. I haven’t heard anything from them: I resorted to sending an “I need answers” email… More of a give me my box or my money.

Tami

I haven’t gotten my box yet but they want a review so here it is – no box no review, but I’m really looking forward to what it will contain!

For $5/quarter, I’m pretty happy with my box. I wouldn’t get it once a month, but four times a year is great. I like all the things I received. I got a full size Covergirl Outlast Lip Color in Wine to Five ($7.94), Pond’s Rejuveness Anti-Wrinkle Cream ($2.24), Dove Deep Moisture body wash ($1), Dove Advanced Hair Series Oxygen Moisture shampoo ($1), Dove Advanced Hair Series Oxygen Moisture conditioner ($1), Pond’s Clean Sweep Original Cleansing Towelettes, 5 count ($0.78), and a single-ish use sample of Maybelline Dream Wonder Powder, plus a $1 coupon. I come up with a value close to $14, and I get to try some stuff I wouldn’t have normally purchased. Thumbs up!

Ellbee

I got the same box today! I love it! I absolutely love that cover girl outlast lip color. It stayed on my lips all day and even through meals. It’s inredible! The smell of the ponds wrinkle cream is nauseating, so I won’t be using that. Also, I got dove shampoo and conditioner for fine, flat hair. I have super thick full hair. So I will probably give that away. But I really like the body wash, it just smells clean. I’m happy with my box, the lip color alone was worth more than the $5. Plus I have the wipes and the body wash, and the powder sample.

NOT WORTH IT. This was my first and most probably my last box. This isn’t even worth the $5.00. (You can get these samples for free on internet) I’m 32 and received foil packets & lipstick. If they would’ve at least sent what the PICTURE SHOWED It would’ve been worth it for the deodorant at least. DO NOT RECOMMEND

Reply ButtonReply

Dean

I’m 40 and did not receive a single foil packet. I got 6 items that I will use up and enjoy – five deluxe samples and a full-size lipstick duo. I thought it was a great deal – but I guess the foil packets would be a disappointment. Still, $5 every three months is nothing. Think of all the money you spend every week. I love the nice, sturdy box and the excitement of trying things I wouldn’t have bought otherwise. Some people here said negative things about the “old lady” selections, and suggested changing your age in the profile. But if what I got represents what my age group will typically get, then I’m happy to be an “old lady”.

Goldie

Dean, I am glad your box was outstanding. However, there is no standard of quality for these boxes — no matter what age you give Walmart. I received 2 boxes that consisted of 8 samples in which 5 were foil samples, 2 were extremely small samples (i.e. free) and only 1 was full size. The $5 value simply was not there. I work too hard for my money to just throw it away on junk. Walmart should be ashamed to send out crap like this.

Dean

Just got my first Walmart beauty box today (January 5), and it’s great! Looks very different from Liz’s – only the Maybelline powder coupon was the same. I got three Dove products – body wash, shampoo, conditioner; Pond’s cleansing towelettes (yay!); Pond’s anti-wrinkle cream (double yay!), and Cover Girl Outlast duo – lipstick in Dusty Rose and a lip balm to slick over it. I couldn’t be more pleased. I am super-hooked. The box is sturdy and well-designed, and the tissue paper is a nice touch. Five dollars every three months is NOTHING, and I get a box of cute goodies that I will definitely use up – all of them. What a great experience!

I didn’t get anything like everyone! I got 2 shampoo samples (Loreal and I can’t remember the other name), Burt’s Bee Facial Cleansing Towelettes with White Tea Extract (10 pack), Covergirl lip gloss (full size), Dove Body Wash (sample) and Aveeno’s body lotion (sample), Flowers fragrance card samples. I’m was just happy to finally get mine in the mail. It took forever!

Reply ButtonReply

Jaime

I also got this and love those Burt’s Bees wipes!

Reply ButtonReply

Heathery

I got the same! It’s not a lot, but I’m happy with it since it was only $5. Can’t beat that! I really like the lip gloss. But honestly, I’ll use every single thing in the box, and that doesn’t always happen with subscriptions! So I call it a win all around.

Reply ButtonReply

Laura

I got the same box as you. I was pretty indifferent about it at first, but I have to admit I am liking the Burt’s Bees wipes!

Reply ButtonReply

Sherita

I didn’t even realize that is was a quarterly subscription until the next box arrived 🙂 I do believe the boxes are according to what you put in because my box is completely different from the one you received. I received Ponds cleaning towelettes (which I use anyway), Ponds anti wrinkle cream (1.75oz), Aveeno lotion (1oz), Olay tone perfecting cream (.24oz), and foil packs of L’Oreal , John Frieda, and Nivea. I think I will keep this sub because these items are great for travel and I won’t wind up wasting money on full size items that do not work for me.

I’m 40 and did not get a box of foil samples. This was the 1st box I received and was pleased. I received a full size Cover Girl 24 hour Lip Color (a lovely color too), Ponds Rejuvinating Cream, Dove Shampoo, Dove Conditioner, Dove Body Wash, and 1 foil packet of a face powder. I was quite pleased with my box. I wonder if they send out a nice “1st” box and then they go downhill after that? After reading the prior reviews, I’m not sure age is responsible for receiving a “bad” box…it may just be the luck of the draw or timing of when they send the boxes out? I ordered mine late—probably 2nd wk of December and received it Dec 29. I hope the next box is as pleasing to me.

Michelle

This is exactly what was in my box, and I’m 42 (and used my real age in my profile.)

Reply ButtonReply

Aidai

I received 3 times less,
almost everything was in foil packets :C

A lot of people mentioned changing your age to get the young box since it was better. That is NOT necessity true. The young box had foil packs, etc. They happened to sell out of the young box fast so they brought this version Liz received.

They are actually suppose to be about equal and they were almost exact until they sold out of the young box so brought this better version. Some people that were sent the first few batches were unlucky and it’s unfair.

I received this box and I’m pretty happy with it. I mean I would not pay more then $5-6 but it’s pretty nice.

I got a yuck box, 3 tiny dove samples for shampoo/conditioner, ponds cream sample, ponds wipes and a lip gloss. All are available in the sample section of my Walmart for $1.47 so I would just as soon go pick out ones that I would use since I’m not saving much money. I’m going to cancel.

I just went on and changed my birth year, so that I no longer get the old lady boxes!!! I think I will give it one more chance…

Reply ButtonReply

AmyM

Good plan! I’m going to do the same thing. I got a practical but very snooze-worthy box. Zero makeup. All skin and hair stuff. And the foils. Boo!

Reply ButtonReply

Victoria

Seems like I got the yuck box for this quarter. I got not one, not two, but THREE foil samples. I can’t even remember what else was in it. I was pretty disappointed, especially after the first box being so good. But for $5 I am in to the end. I just hope the next box is better.

Reply ButtonReply

Jane

I got my shipping notice today. I was surprised, because I received my box a week ago…

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle R

That happened to me too.

Reply ButtonReply

chris

Me three. And I cancelled after the first box….. Haven’t checked yet if they billed me.

Alex

I’m pretty sure that Walmart is not making money on this box. The $5 covers shipping and packaging. The products are likely negotiated from their suppliers. I would not expect a curated box- you are getting to be the recipient of new products or best selling products that the manufacturers are trying to build new consumers via sampling. To me, it’s fun at the price, and I accept that some boxes will be better than others, depending on what is available.

Reply ButtonReply

Natasha

My winter box was the same as yours. This box being $5 seems to be a great value if you are looking to try out new products compared to others. I remember in October (I think it was October) that Allure Sample Society cost me $16-$17 and it had a smaller sized L’oreal shampoo and conditioner sample, a perfume sample, and a couple samples you could get for free if you visited a Macy’s beauty counter.
