BoxyCharm Beauty Subscription Box Review – November 2014 Box

BoxyCharm is a full-size and deluxe-size makeup and beauty subscription box. When they first started they were featuring drugstore brands like Revlon and L’Oreal, but lately they’ve been using mid-tier and high-end brands. (If you check out my earlier BoxyCharm reviews, you can definitely see the improvement in curation!)

BoxyCharm kindly sent me this box to review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

BoxyCharm Beauty Subscription Box Review – November 2014 Info

Each box comes with a card detailing the products included.

BoxyCharm Beauty Subscription Box Review – November 2014 Blush

OFRA Cosmetics Pressed Blush in Paradise Pink - FULL SIZE! Retail Value $25 (On sale for $20)

Kevin Murphy Color Bug Temporary Hair Color in Purple - FULL SIZE! Value $20

This blush is pretty highly-pigmented, and also has a good amount of micro-shimmer. I'm not sure if I love the color for my skin tone though.

Every subscriber will get this color bug in either purple, gold or white. I may have given it a try if I had received the gold color, but the purple is a little too bold for me to wear. I'm going to pass this along to my younger cousin who is an awesome hair stylist!

BoxyCharm Beauty Subscription Box Review – November 2014 Mica

MICA Beauty Cosmetics Eye Primer - FULL SIZE! Value $45

bellapierre Shimmer Powder in Exite - FULL SIZE! Value $15

When I first looked at the info card for the eye primer listing I thought the $44.95 price tag was a typo! This is the most expensive eye primer I've ever tried! I just tried it out and so far I'm impressed, but I don't know if I could justify the price to buy another one once this one is gone!

I'm guessing the bellapierre eye shimmer colors will vary box to box since the color wasn't mentioned on the info card. I like this white shimmer shade, so I'm happy with my color!

BoxyCharm Beauty Subscription Box Review – November 2014 Liner

Tarina Tarantino Eyelicity Glitter Liner in Black Diamond - FULL SIZE! Value $16

This liner was easy to apply, it dried quickly, and as soon as it was dry became very smudge proof. I also received a glitter black eye liner pencil from Birchbox in a past month's box, but I think I prefer this one since it won't budge once it's on.

Verdict: With the exception of the color bug hair color, this box was a win for me. (Even though I'm not sure the blush is a good fit for my skin tone, I'm guessing it will be a hit with most subscribers). This box has a value of about $121 - $100 over the cost of the box. BoxyCharm definitely provides an amazing value almost every month.

What did you think of the November 2014 BoxyCharm box?

I’m really happy with this box!! At first I wasn’t thrilled but after opening and trying almost everything, I’m happy!

I got a nice silver eye shimmer powder, black liner and a white color bug, which I will use as a dry shampoo since I’m blonde. Next month looks even better!

Does anyone know when the waitlist will be back on? I want to subscribe, but I’d rather start with the December box than this one.

Hi Roxy,

I think it will be a few months at the very least before they take the wait list off. Depending on how good there box does next month. You should have went ahead and picked up the November box to get off the wait list. It was actually a great box, certainly better in person. Beats ipsy and the other subs, even last month.

Some of the items in this box would be really great for my teen age daughters, and I could keep the eye primer for myself. I’ve never received Boxy Charm, does anyone know if I signed up now…would they send me this Nov. box or start with Dec. (the next box)?

Hi Eve,

You will receive Nov box if you order before the 1st.

The wait list is off temporarily.

Also there point system is fantastic. You can review or share items as much as you want, even past items.

I have all the points items, a few hundred dollars with at least.

Thank you – brandy 🙂

I was horrified by the contents of this box… at first. And after closer inspection, it turned out I didn’t really hate anything. I tried the color bug and truthfully, I’ll never wear it again so I will give it to my niece but it will still be a cute present.

As for the people that are nervous about the blush… it’s actually really pretty. It looks like how your skin naturally flushes when you’ve spent some time in the cold. I recommend giving it a try if you are on the fence. If you use too much you could use a Beauty Blender to tone it down a bit and you should be fine. I was nervous about this but I think it’s really pretty.

I’m not a glitter person but I think this eyeliner could be really nice on a special occasion/holiday party.

If anyone wants to swap/sell their purple color bug I would be more than happy to take it off your hands lol. It would make the perfect stocking stuffer for my 7 year old!

This was my first Boxycharm box and I’m so happy with it, I will use everything but the color bug. I was keeping my fingers crossed for the purple color bug, and I got it! It will be added as part of my niece’s Christmas gift, and I know she’ll have so much fun experiementing with it.

I swapped my black glitter liner for the white because I already have a black glitter liner.

I’m already anticipating the spoilers for next month!! 🙂

I want to try a gold color bug! Someone go list theirs on the swaps so I can nab one. 🙂

I tried BoxyCharm a couple of months ago and I wasn’t impressed but I think a lot of it depends on the variation combination that you receive.

This was a total bust for me. I got the white color bug, white eyeliner, hot pink blush and purple eyeshadow! Ugh! This is my first boxycharm and I cancelled within 15 minutes of opening this ridiculous box! I will never sub from them again.

This was also my first box. I was far from “wow”ed upon first glance, but I will give it another shot because everyone has told me this is very different from the norm for BoxyCharm.

I agree! I would be mortified if I got this box in the mail!

I still love my Ipsy & Birchbox and Blush box but I have to say I really love Boxycharm. I received the gold color bug and I love it. I wasn’t excited for the spoiler but this looks so natural and not chalky. I am glad I decided to try it. The eye liner I received was white and it went on like a pink pearl. Gorgeous!!!!

I love this box! I got the purple color bug and I just used it one my ends. It looks so awesome! I want more of them =)

Sometimes I wonder if companies falsely inflate the prices of their products when they put them in sub boxes. I’ve only seen MICA Beauty Cosmetics in sub boxes and the quality is ok. There is no way in heck that primer is worth even close to $45!

Adeline

I totally agree that these ‘sub box’ companies completely inflate their prices to make them seem high end and make it seem like your submit has so much more value. There is NO WAY that primer is worth 45.00. Does anyone take into consideration that subbed companies make a huge profit and if what they were sending out was truly 3xs, or more plus value that these sub boxes could possibly stay in business?? Economics 101. Either way, I don’t get sub boxes for their value because they are only worth the price you pay anyway. .I just think their fun and it’s great to try new brands and products I wouldn’t normally do.

brandy

They get the prices from the actual company and I check and they are accurate.

So that’s not true with Boxycharm, maybe some other subs and maybe if they have a sell. Otherwise there prices are accurate, I check monthly.

I didn’t think I would love this box but upon opening, everything is nice!!! Plus you receive over $100 worth of items upwards $150.

*sub box not submit or subbed..smart phones..

Erin

I thought the same thing, but it’s listed as $44.95 on the MICA Beauty website as well. I haven’t tried it yet but I have a hard time wanting to buy ANY eye primer for that price. My Urban Decay primer holds up just fine at $20.

With the exception of the color bug I really liked this box. I wish I had gotten the purple color bug, the gold didn’t really do anything in my dark hair. I find that BoxyCharm always has things I am interested in and I think the value is really there. The blush looks really lovely on my skin, and seems easy to dial down to not be as pigmented for a day-look. I am glad that I received the black sparkle liner, it is fun for parties and holiday events or an evening out with my husband. Can’t wait to try the crazy priced eye-primer to see if it is worth the hype. This is one of the two subs that I find I am always excited about.

This is my second subscription box after Ipsy and this was my first box. Yes some of the items were not for me but I will add them to gift packages for my nieces and I know they will be thrilled. The blush is large and the shade works with my skin tone and I’m excited for the eye primer so for the price of the box I am very satisified.

I had unsubscribed for this month after the color bug spoiler, but once people started getting their boxes I was getting jealous of the eye primer. When boxycharm emailed me and said I could still get this box I went for it. I’ve wanted to buy a MAC paint pot and this seems like a good enough dupe. I’m even kind of excited about the color bug now.

I love Boxycharm, it’s usually my favorite box, but last month wasn’t a win for me or this month. I felt this month was geared towards teens or something. I don’t use glitter eyeliner or glitter shadows, or color my hair odd colors. I got the color bug in white, swapped immediately. I swapped my whole box minus the eyeshadow primer and the blush that I really liked.

Emily

I’m happy with this box other than the blush and I got the gold color bug when I really wanted purple and my eye shimmer is also in gold.
