First Impressions

First thing I noticed when checking out this month's Bombay & Cedar The Beauty Box is that it was so close to being on schedule. Hooray! I also very much enjoy the plastic drawstring bag the products come inside.

What's Inside The Box

The box arrives with a card that lists the products and highlights some of the beauty brands found within. December's theme was ‘Fancy.’

ALLEYOOP Multi-Mood Lip Trio in Red and Done, 9.36 g - Retail Value $32.00

A lip trio, wow. Instead of just one lipstick look, this little kit brings a whole bunch of versatility. It’s a single lip color in three finishes; a gloss, a cream, and a matte. All three finishes are housed in a compact case. You can easily stash the entire case in your purse for some last-minute touch-ups, or you can break it apart and carry just the finish you want. I love products that allow for more than one type of look, so I’m really impressed with how there is literally a finish for any occasion. The product’s quality itself is nice. The bottles are small, but I’m curious to see how long they will last during casual use. Each one includes a doe-foot applicator, which I appreciate. When I applied this lipstick, I noticed that the gloss was not sticky (#winning), the cream gave my lips a nice boost of color while also keeping them hydrated, and the matte did dry down but it never dried out or flaked. I’m not at all mad about this little lip trio, and I’m glad to have it on hand.

Here are the swatches for each finish.

LOVE LIGHT COSMETICS Love Lashes, 1 pair - Retail Value $40.00

These Love Lashes are magnetic lashes that go hand-in-hand with the magnetic eyeliner below. The construction of these lashes themselves seem to be pretty stable, and although they are delicate, they look like they would stay put once applied properly. Each lash has a curved band that makes it easier to adhere to your lids. What I appreciate about these magnetic lashes is that they are reusable. Being able to reuse products always ups the value for me. Plus, being able to stick them on without glue is a definite bonus. The lash case even comes in a little satin pouch for storage. While these might not be my thing, for anyone who is interested, this looks like a nice lash set to break out on date night and spice things up a bit.

LOVE LIGHT COSMETICS Magnetic Eyeliner - Retail Value $40.00

I’ve never tried magnetic eyeliner before so I was a bit hesitant at giving this product a go. This eyeliner is said to be waterproof and able to last long enough for all-day wear. One thing I noticed is that the brush applicator is a bit too pointy for my liking, and it made the application slightly less smooth than it should have been (because I was afraid of poking myself in the eye). Once I applied two coats of eyeliner, it looked just like regular eyeliner to me. I next tried my hand at adding the Love Lashes from this box to my eyelid, and they actually stayed put. It seems that as long as you follow the instructions and apply as specified, this magnetic eyeliner does do what it says. Will I be making this a regular thing for myself? No. But I do think that those who enjoy wearing magnetic lashes will definitely find this little eyeliner handy, especially since it’s supposed to work with all brands of magnetic lashes.

NOURISH LONDON Balance Detoxifying Cleanser, 100 ml - Retail Value $21.50

I’ve never had a chance to try a product by this brand, but I’m very impressed with their detoxifying cleanser. It is gentle on the skin, yet strong and effective, seamlessly lifting away old makeup, sweat, and grime from the day. I love how smoothly this cleanser washes away, leaving my pores clear and my skin clean, not stripped or dry. No residue gets left behind. I have sensitive skin, but this cream-based cleanser didn’t cause me to break out and gave my face a thorough cleanse. For those with less oily skin than mine, using this cleanser regularly would likely go well with the simultaneous use of an additional serum or a thicker, more heavy-duty moisturizer.

VIOLA VANN Facial Cups, 3 pieces - Retail Value $25.00

Cupping is a skincare technique that I’ve never been able to get into. This Viola Vann set includes three cups of different sizes for various parts of the face. In case you’re like me and aren’t too well-versed in the art of ‘cupping therapy,’ it’s when cups get placed on the skin and create a suction to promote blood flow, reduce inflammation, and activate lymphatic drainage. Ew, lymphatic drainage sounds gross… However, I’m not sure if I was using them correctly, but the suction was very strong. It was kind of fun and made me feel like I was making out with an octopus, lol. It did leave my face red, though, so I don’t think my skin liked it very much. For those who are fans of cupping, let me know why you love it and any techniques in the comments. I’m really interested in the results that others have seen; maybe one day I’ll figure it out.

Verdict

I thought this December 2021 The Beauty Box by Bombay and Cedar was a good box. The mixture of items it provided felt slightly disjointed, and I’m not sure how it went with the theme. That being said, this box got me to try something new with Love Light Cosmetic’s magnetic eyeliner and lash set. Although I won’t be using these on the regular, I like having them as a secret weapon to pull out every now and then. The Alleyoop lip trio’s compact case is not just adorable but also convenient, and I love how this set gives me three individual finishes to mix up my look. Nourish London’s detoxifying cleanser worked well with my skin, and I’m happy to make this a staple in my skincare routine for the time being. Lastly, the Viola Vann facial cups, which I may use more often down the road. Overall, I think this was a good box, and the value was definitely there.

Cupping is a complete scam for fan girls of Gwyneth. For everyone with brain cells it’s laughable.

To reduce inflammation, drink more water and eat fewer carbs. To promote blood flow, take an aspirin and a walk. Cupping is bunk. But I loved your analogy to making out with an octopus!!!! 🙂

Actually cupping provides many benefits. As someone who practices it, and has received it. Performing it on your face requires an expert. Taking a daily aspirin has many negative side effects.

Cupping provides many benefits 🤣🤣🙄🙄 give me a break. Maybe stop giving and receiving something dumb just because Gwyneth told you to.

Dea

I did not say “daily.”

I would put cupping right up there with those black peel off masks that seem to rip your eyebrows off as something that shouldn’t be done to one’s face. There are much better alternatives to get the blood flowing and the lymph draining then suction cupping skin. 😣
