Splendid Spoon: How This Meal Plan Helps Me Feel My Best

I’m big on setting goals, and for 2022, one thing I really wanted to focus on was creating a routine that makes me feel energized and content each day. That means actually taking a lunch break, setting time restrictions on my phone, and making time to eat real, healthy foods instead of running to Taco Bell every chance I get.

I’m fortunate to have a freelancing career where I set my own hours, so making time to form these daily habits should have been a breeze. But in reality, I get swept away in a sea of emails and to-dos so quickly that I become that annoying, “Oh my gosh, it’s 3 p.m. and I totally forgot to eat lunch” person (hence the aforementioned frequent trips to Taco Bell).

So when I came across Splendid Spoon, I couldn’t wait to have completely plant-based smoothies, green juices, and lunches already prepared and delivered to my door. I was excited to try all the different flavors the company offers, but I didn’t realize I’d also love just how amazing it made me feel.

A Plant-Based Meal Delivery Service

I’m a vegetarian that also limits dairy intake, so finding ready-made meals that don’t have meat products isn’t always easy. But everything at Splendid Spoon is plant-based: the grain bowls, the smoothies, the wellness shots, all of it! It’s also gluten-free, and while I don’t have gluten intolerance, I know that makes this meal delivery service stands out from many other services that have limited options for people with dietary restrictions.

Because there's no dairy, I notice a difference in stomach aches, belching (sorry, TMI!), and bloating compared to when I eat cheesy, creamy dishes. But these meals and beverages are still flavorful thanks to the inclusion of plenty of spices and fresh produce.

Sustainable Packaging

While recycling certainly isn’t the way to solve our waste crisis (it’s reduce, reuse, then recycle as a last resort, y’all), I did appreciate that this service had reusable and recyclable packaging. This issue has actually turned me off of some meal kits that package every single teaspoon of spice in its own non-recyclable plastic pouch, so I was happy that this is a meal delivery service clearly working to minimize its impact. I feel better knowing my meal containers aren't destined for landfill.

My Splendid Spoon meals came in a cardboard box with TemperPack cooling liners made from brown paper and cornstarch. All of the beverages arrived in recyclable plastic bottles, and the solid foods came in reusable plastic containers. The only single-use plastic in the kit is the protective liner on the meal containers.

Quick Cooking With No Hassle

I love to cook, but I don’t always have the time or energy. Thankfully, my Splendid Spoon smoothies simply need to defrost in the fridge (everything comes frozen and packed securely in curbside recycling-friendly packaging). The lunches, which include grain bowls, noodle bowls, and soups, can easily be heated up in a microwave or for a few minutes on the stove.

Clean Ingredients and Delicious Taste

I love to do yoga, go to spin class, and lift weights. I also highly value a good night’s sleep. But when I eat foods that are high in sodium and sugar, low in protein, or lacking in energizing carbs, I can feel it. I can’t keep the beat in spin, I have to do drop-sets in my weights sooner than normal, and I toss and turn through the night with an upset stomach. With Splendid Spoon, I feel stronger in my workouts and like I'm getting a better nights sleep.

My favorite part of Splendid Spoon, aside from the meals taking no time to prep, is that they are actually nutritious and taste good, too. I’ve ordered meal kits that made really flavorful meals, but they were packed with heavy cream or cream cheese that just made my stomach churn hours after finishing my meal. I’ve also ordered health-focused meals that tasted like wet cardboard. My Splendid Spoon meals had a ton of flavor, and after I had a noodle or grain bowl for lunch, I noticed that I felt energized to get through my long work days. There were no signs of an afternoon slump.

Splendid Spoon somehow manages to make even my worst enemy, green juices, taste good without added sugars. Who knew I’d actually look forward to my Tropical Greens Juice in the morning? And after I sip my smoothie or devour my Dan Dan Noodle Bowl, I feel fueled for the day instead of sluggish.

Splendid Spoon Gives Me More Time to Focus on Me

I finally feel like I’ve built a solid routine centered around my wellness. I wake up before the sun, meditate, read a book, exercise, and sip a smoothie or green juice from Splendid Spoon all before I read a single email or check social media. After hitting my top work priorities in the morning, I can make lunch quickly thanks to Splendid Spoon and have more time on my lunch break to work on a puzzle or go for a walk. When I return to my desk, I don't feel bloated or sluggish; instead, I'm feeling plenty of energy thanks to the wholesome ingredients. By the end of the day, I feel satisfied with my balance of productivity and self-care throughout the day, and I don't spend my nights tossing and turning with a stomach ache or acid reflux. While Splendid Spoon isn’t wholly responsible for this health and lifestyle change, its wholesome meals and drinks do play an important part in the shift.
