Are Hubble Contact Lenses Worth It? Our Review of their Free First Box Offer

MSA
ByMSAFeb 11, 2021

Hubble is a monthly subscription box for affordable daily contacts that's gaining in popularity. It works like a subscription service—once you sign up, you'll get 30 pairs of daily contacts each month for just $36.00 (+ $3 shipping). That's only about $1 per day to get FDA-approved, high-quality contacts delivered right to your door!

Plus, unlike annual plans, Hubble's month-to-month subscription service lets you skip a month if you'd like. This is really handy if you're like me and don't wear your contacts every day. If I still have unused pairs by the end of the month, I can skip a shipment and not worry about buying more dailies than I need.

If you're curious about giving Hubble a try, I recommend getting started via their free trial offer like I did. It's a great way to find out if Hubble is right for you before signing up. (And it's fast—my order shipped within 48 hours of placing it!) Hubble Daily Contacts Free Trial Box Review

I've used daily contacts for years, and I was instantly intrigued when I saw how affordable Hubble is. (And let's be honest, the packaging is very cute.) But is this service all it's cracked up to be? Let's break it down...

Will Hubble work with my vision prescription?

Hubble contacts come in the standard 14.2 diameters with a base curve of 8.6. They currently offer lenses with powers ranging from -0.50 to -12.00 and +0.5 to +6.00. (They currently don't offer toric lenses for those with astigmatism but plan to in the future!)

You'll need a valid Hubble contacts prescription from your doctor before signing up. You can go to your current doctor and ask for a Hubble-specific prescription, or if you don’t have one, Hubble can help you find a doctor in your local area. (Note that this feature seems to have a limited service area at the moment.)

Are Hubble lenses... legit? What's the quality like?

Hubble lenses are FDA-approved and according to their site, are designed to be easy to use and safe for your eyes. Want more specifics? Here's how Hubble describes their lenses:

Our lenses are made from high-grade methafilcon A hydrogel material. With 55% water content, UV protection, and a thin edge, they're designed for easy insertion, all-day comfort, and crystal clear vision.

Remember that these are daily contact lenses, meaning they shouldn't be washed and worn again like longer-use lenses. Luckily, Hubble's service is designed to make sure you always have a new pair on hand.

My Hubble contacts arrived inside really adorable, peach-colored boxes. The expiration date for the lenses as well as my prescription information was printed on the side of each box. Similar info also appears on each strip of contacts.

If you've used contacts before, you're familiar with this kind of packaging. These are pretty standard little pods, and the contacts inside looked like my typical lenses. They're faintly blue so you can easily see them.

When I ordered my free trial, I was a little concerned that I typically use a base curve of 8.5, and Hubble only offers 8.6. My doctor was fine with trying this 8.6 base curve, and I didn't end up noticing a difference. These pairs felt exactly like my other daily contacts. When I wear contacts, it's typically for the whole day, so I definitely get at least 15 hours out of them. I found these Hubble contacts to be comfortable, so it was an easy switch to make.

Can I use my vision insurance, FSA, or HSA to pay for Hubble contacts?

I personally didn't use vision insurance to pay for this trial box, but there are some options. Here's what Hubble says on their FAQ page:

Like other online contact lens stores, we don’t deal with insurance providers directly, but you can use the receipt we’ll email to you after check-out when applying for reimbursement from your provider.

And regarding FSAs and HSAs:

If your FSA or HSA card is affiliated with a major credit card, you can use it to make lens purchases. If you would like to use your FSA or HSA card for only a part of your purchase, please contact our team. We’d be happy to help!

Great! Anything else I should know?

I really liked that my trial box included a little booklet of information about the service, including information on how to contact Hubble for help or questions. The illustrations are so cute!

As mentioned earlier, the Hubble subscription is structured to ship to you monthly, but you can always skip a month (and the $36 charge for that month) if you want. No use ordering more contacts if you still have some left over from last month!

And of course, you can cancel your subscription by calling Hubble customer service at 1-844-334-1640 between 9AM and 6PM EST, Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays.

You should also know that Hubble currently only ships to the US, Canada, Puerto Rico, Guam, the US Virgin Islands, and military APO/DPO/FPO addresses.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

My Verdict

I'm really pleased with my Hubble free trial! If their lens specifications fit your needs, $3 is a great price to try a new box of daily lenses. These felt like every other brand of daily contacts I've enjoyed over the years, so I'm really happy with the quality given the price.

At first, I didn't love the idea of a monthly delivery because I'm used to buying my contacts in bulk. I don't actually wear contacts every single day, so I always have some left over when my yearly restock reminder comes. With Hubble, you have the option to skip months so I can arrange deliveries as needed and avoid waste. The cost of contacts can really vary from person to person based on quality and specifications needed, but Hubble is literally half the cost of what I was paying! I had to triple check the cost of my last contact order to verify that because it seemed like there was no way I had paid so much for contacts. But that's accurate! These are beyond a deal for me!
