Living outside your native country is great. I'm not going to lie. You get to experience a new culture and meet new people… However, there’s this piece of your heart that craves home… especially the food!
I’m from Venezuela, and my family’s all over the place: Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Colombia. Trying to connect with them and my roots with food is not easy. Sometimes, getting the ingredients to prepare my native meals is challenging and expensive.
I have almost no time left with work and daily chores, so preparing a heart-warming meal is practically impossible. That’s why my heart filled with joy when I heard that HelloFresh was preparing a Hispanic Heritage Month special menu. ❤️🔥

Connecting With My Roots Through Food
Can you customize your weekly order, you may ask? Yes, the HelloFresh subscription allows you to select how many people you plan the meals for and any dietary preferences. For example, I prefer vegetarian meals, while my husband prefers keto-approved carnivore meals.
However, we’re going full Latino this month, so he better buckle up! Here are my favorite meals from the HelloFresh Hispanic menu that I’m most excited about. 💃
Ecuadorian-Style Pescado Encocado 🐟
Those who know me are aware that I’m not a big carnivore. However, one source of protein I enjoy is fish. And I enjoy it even more with this creamy coconut sauce (Thanks, HelloFresh, for coconut milk!) with tomato and jalapeño. And topped with buttery rice with a touch of lime juice? Doesn’t get any better!
Cuban-Style Pollo a la Plancha 🍗
Yes, Pollo a la Plancha is a meal that travels the world. But is there any better than the Hispanic version? I don’t think so. This is a meal that my Venezuelan peers will be very familiar with. For this super easy recipe, you’ll just have to marinate the chicken with fresh-squeezed lime and orange juice, get the beans to simmer, and serve it with fluffy rice and a sprinkle of fresh cilantro.
Colombian-Style Chicken Stew 🍲
This is the definition of comfort food for all Hispanics, mostly for cold or chilly days. And if you’re going through a cold, this is a medicine for a soul. Kudos to the HelloFresh chefs for choosing the best part of the chicken, the thigh, to cook it with the Hispanic cooking core: sofrito (onion, garlic, and bell pepper). You’ll notice by now that we are big fans of rice, so yes, you can add some buttery rice to your chicken stew to turn it into a whole meal.
Going All-In During Hispanic Heritage Month
HelloFresh has something I can’t get anywhere else: I can adapt this subscription to my life with a single click. Whether it is a standard everyday menu or a special occasion like Hispanic Heritage Month, HelloFresh has the meals you’re looking for, with recipes that can be done in 15 minutes or less.
