6 Best Perfume Subscriptions in 2021

MSA
ByMSADec 15, 2021 | 10 comments

Finding your signature scent can be difficult, but perfume subscription boxes can make your search a little bit easier. For a (usually) low monthly fee, you can explore a range of fragrances from major brands and artisanal perfumeries — and with a bit of luck, you can find a few new favorites.

We looked for the best perfume subscriptions offering memberships in 2021. Whether you’re looking for tried-and-true products from fashion mainstays or hypoallergenic alternatives, this list should provide everything you need to explore new fragrances from the comfort of your home. Where possible, we also included coupon codes and promo links to cut the cost of your first order.

At the end of this list, we’ll explain a few of the factors we used when ranking our favorites. If we missed your favorite perfume subscription, be sure to drop us a note in the comments. With that said, let’s get started: Here are our top perfume subscriptions for 2021.

Best Perfume Subscriptions in 2021

1. LUXSB - Best Perfume Subscription for Customization

LUXSB sample products.

Cost: $15 per month for the standard plan. Subscribe here!

What Our Readers Say:

“Good quality and value. LuxSB is my must have monthly perfume subscription. Fast shipping and good customer service.” – Sabrina

About This Perfume Subscription Box: Formerly known as Luxury Scent Box, LUXSB is a fragrance subscription that delivers 9 milliliters of designer fragrance each month. You’ll also get information about the fragrance and a chic velour bag for holding each vial.

LUXSB earns their high ranking on this list for several reasons. First, while they only ship one fragrance at a time, you get quite a bit; the 9-mL size is larger than a traditional sample, delivering about 150 sprays. That’s an advantage, because smaller samples can sometimes trick you into thinking that you’re in love with a certain fragrance. The larger amount allows you to spend some time with each scent to determine whether it’s right for you.

The company also provides plenty of options for customization. Members set up a fragrance calendar, so you’ll know exactly what you’re getting each month. We love subscriptions that deliver fun surprises, but perfume is quite specific to the person — if you’re hoping to avoid floral or citrus scents, LUXSB makes that easy.

Finally, the price is right. The Standard Plan starts at $15 per month (and discounts are available via the coupon code listed above), so you’ll be able to explore new scents without investing much money.

If you’re especially adventurous, consider upgrading to the Premium Plan. For another $3 per month, this plan offers access to premium items through the LUXSB store — with that said, we’d start with the basic membership, then upgrade once you learn how LUXSB works.

Check out our LUXSB reviews and details page for more information about subscribing.

2. Skylar Scent Club - Best Hypoallergenic Perfume Subscription

Skylar perfume products with bow.

Cost: $20 per month with free shipping. Subscribe here!

What Our Readers Say:

“You can also skip or swap the monthly scents ahead of time if you know you won't like what's coming up the next month. Their customer service is phenomenal!” – Leslie

About This Perfume Subscription Box: Skylar Scent Club focuses on clean fragrances, ideal for people with skin sensitivities and folks who are easily overwhelmed by strong scents. Think fresh, light products with plenty of florals — and if you love layering to create your own signature scent, this is the perfume subscription box for you.

All of the company’s fragrances are hypoallergenic, vegan, and free from parabens and toxic chemicals. They have a modern character that’s never overwhelming. While strong fragrances have their place, Skylar’s products are subtle enough that you’d never call them “intoxicating.” For certain people, that’s a great selling point.

The club allows some amount of customization, as you can skip scents if you know that they won’t work for you. Each month, you’ll get a 10-milliliter rollerball perfume (also called a rollie). You can also get a discount on anything you purchase from Skylar’s web store, along with early access to new products and other perks.

Check out our Skylar Scent Club reviews and details page for more information about subscribing.

3. Scentbird - Best Personalized Perfume Subscription Box

Cost: $15.95 per month. Subscribe here!

What Our Readers Say:

“I am on month 3 of Scentbird and I love it. I wish I would have known about it earlier. I love trying mid to higher end fragrances, and I can do it without breaking the bank. Love it.” – Purrbaby

About This Perfume Subscription Box: For a personalized assortment of fragrances, Scentbird is our go-to perfume subscription — though if you’d prefer a random selection of top perfumes, they’ve got that option, too.

Activate your subscription, and you’ll receive 8-mL vials of designer scents. Each holds about 140 sprays, which should give you plenty of time to experiment between shipments. Your first order will also include a free fragrance case. Scentbird personalizes selections via a simple online quiz, and members have full access to the company’s catalog; you’ll get special discounts and promotional offers, so if you find something you love, you can stock up with ease.

Note: While our readers raved about the quality of Scentbird’s fragrances, the company’s website received less-than-stellar reviews. However, they’ve recently made updates to make the ordering process easier, and in our testing, we had no trouble setting up a sample subscription.

Check out our Scentbird reviews and details page for more information about subscribing.

4. Margot Elena Subscription Box - Best Perfume Subscription Box with Extras

Margot Elena box example contents.

Cost: $59.99 per quarter. Subscribe here!

What Our Readers Say:

“I decided to try ME and was just astounded by the quality, packaging and selection of items. ” – AJ

About This Perfume Subscription Box: The Margot Elena Subscription Box isn’t just about fragrances, but this seasonal subscription centers around scents (and that typically means at least one full-sized perfume product). Previous boxes have included parfum cremas, gift tag kits, luxury soaps, shower gels, rollerball perfumes, and cosmetics. It’s a wide mix of spa-quality items for treating yourself, and since it delivers every three months, you’ll have plenty of time to try everything out before your next box arrives.

The curation follows a seasonal theme (for instance, the Spring Box contained lighter florals). This is one of the best perfume subscription boxes for giving — even if you order it for yourself, you’ll get plenty of products for treating friends and family. While the price is higher than most of the monthly perfume subscriptions we’ve covered, Margot Elena’s Subscription Box justifies its price tag with plenty of high-quality offerings.

What Our Readers Say:

“...My favorite subscription box thus far! I have been looking for a perfume subscription and so glad I went with this one! Quality of the perfume is great and it brings enough to last you a month. I love that it comes with jewelry, too! Thank you!!” – Lisa

About This Perfume Subscription Box: Delivered through CrateJoy, Perfume Surprise is a monthly scent subscription that delivers five 2.5-milliliter spray bottles from brands like Versace, Gucci, and Dior.

The fragrances are curated for a different theme each month; you might receive a selection of romantic perfumes or an assortment of citrus-y scents. You’ll also get a 3-piece jewelry set with charms, lockets, and bracelets.

While Perfume Surprise is inexpensive, the authentic fragrances provide a fun surprise each month. The company estimates a $65 retail value per box (including the jewelry pieces), so you’ll get plenty of value for your money.

Check out our Perfume Surprise reviews and details page for more information about subscribing.

6. Olfactif - Best Perfume Box for Fragrance Explorers

Olfactif box.

Cost: Starts at $20 per month, with discounts available for long-term orders. Subscribe here!

What Our Readers Say:

“Lovely packaging with thoughtful note descriptions of the perfumes. And $18 could go toward buying a perfume you loved from their website! Definitely recommended for perfume nerds.” – Joanna

About This Perfume Subscription Box: Olfactif is a perfume subscription box for diehard fragrance fanatics. Their products are interesting, niche, and engaging, so if you’re bored by mainstream fragrances, this is a great place to expand your horizons.

Sign up, and you’ll receive 3 unique fragrances in 2-mL deluxe-sized samples. Each fragrance can be worn about 15-20 times. You’ll have limited options for customization — members can choose between fragrances designed for women or men, with plenty of unisex options in either group — and members receive 20% off featured full bottles along with additional discounts for other full bottles and à la carte samples.

Our readers were divided on some of the fragrances; while some reviewers loved Olfactif’s niche approach, others wished for more traditional offerings. In other words, if you’re passionate about exploring different fragrances, this is the box for you, but if you already have a clear idea of what you want in a perfume, Olfactif might be a little overwhelming.

Check out our Olfactif reviews and details page for more information about subscribing.

Factors We Considered When Reviewing These Perfume Subscriptions

Fragrances are extremely subjective — they interact with skin in different ways, so a well-crafted perfume might provide a completely different olfactory experience depending on the wearer. With that in mind, we tried not to rank these perfume subscriptions by scent alone (you can check out our pages for each brand if you’d like more information on how our reviewers experienced the products).

Instead, we considered these criteria:

  • Price and Value - Fragrances can be expensive, and subscription boxes should allow users to explore new scents without breaking the bank. We looked for services that offered an excellent overall value. We also tried to provide a range of options to meet different budgets.
  • Size of Fragrance Samples - Perfume subscriptions rarely offer full-size bottles (that would defeat the purpose, since members use these services to learn about new fragrances). We paid close attention to the amount of product delivered in each box. Generally, we looked for companies that provided at least 8-mL samples, though we made an exception for Olfactic, since that brand focuses on niche scents.
  • Customization Options - We gave priority to fragrance subscriptions that give users control over their orders. Most services don’t offer fully personalized curation, but we looked for companies that allow their users to change or cancel orders without penalties.
  • Customer Service - Great support is an important factor for any subscription service. We looked at customer reviews to ensure that each perfume subscription addressed customer concerns quickly. While we can’t guarantee great customer service, the subscriptions on this list have received mostly positive feedback from real-world subscribers.

Hopefully, we’ve introduced you to your new favorite perfume subscription. We’ll update this list if we find new services that offer great value — and as a quick reminder, we rely on our readers, so be sure to leave a comment below if you think we’re missing something.

I never heard of Perfume Surprise. I’ve been saying that there should be a fragrance sub where you get an assortment of samples (instead of a single travel spray), because I love variety. I wish that this had some personalization/customization though–something like Ipsy or Ipsy Plus where we could pick each month and/or it sent fragrances based on your profile. Macys and Bloomingdales send out samples constantly, so I probably have these major brands. I’d like to see more niche.
It’s been hard to sample fragrances since the stores put away the testers.
The price is too high for samples though. I understand that they’re throwing in some jewelry, but I don’t really want that.

I’m starting to feel like I need to heed the advice I once heard that if you can’t say anything nice just don’t say anything at all. But I guess I’ll save that for another day because here I am typing away like a true curmudgeon that just can’t stop being let down by a website I used to love so much. I truly wish I could be like everyone else who seems to have moved on and just accepts the mediocrity we are presented with daily on here but I can’t.

So first, I’m very curious what the difference between best subscription for “personalization“ and best for “customization” is exactly? I personally feel those mean the same thing but maybe I’m missing something?

Also I find it bizarre that you show 2 Glow Recipe items for Scentbird rather than fragrance. Scentbird hasn’t offered any noteworthy skincare or beauty products in almost 2 years. I used to subscribe to them with the 3 products a month service until they stopped having any beauty or skincare the way they once did. The picture you chose is extremely misleading.

You and me both. Somehow I’m still disappointed every time I come onto this site.

Add me to the club. I see them trying, they are hitting us with ALOT of posts but they seem ike fluff. Clear it away and whats left is what makes me sigh a little everytime I pop over here.
Though, in a way they are keeping us as evidenced by the amount of comments like ours that pop up all over this site. lol

Same, I really enjoyed scrolling through the old msa, it was like a morning and night ritual.. now I just try to figure out if anything new is going on and then leave asap.. bring old msa back!

Amanda P

They haven’t recently subscribed per their review – only setting up a test account to check functionality. Why not make it ‘top 5’ perfume subscriptions and leave this one off?

I really liked wicked good! Hopefully they’re still around after COVID. I unsubscribed when they raised the price, but the quality and curation is amazing! It was my favorite sub box ever!

I was just thinking about them too! Loved their curation each month. Unfortunately I had a bad reaction to something I tried so thought best to take a break. But every month I was absolutely thrilled with what I received.

I loved Wicked Good, too. At one time, MSA regularly reviewed it. Not sure why they stopped. I’m thinking of resubscribing, since I’ve dropped so many other subs (Boxy, Ipsy, etc).

I have not seen a wicked good perfume review on the MSA site for what? Eight months? Nine? Fortune Cookie Soap has not had a review since March. Both subs offer very nice perfume items and would be much more interesting than the “There’s a subscription for that” oddball things popping up these days. I love perfume and pretty, scented things and sure miss the old reviews.
