"Poor quality/inventory control and customer service"

Hungryroot is great when it works, but quality and inventory control are significantly off, and the typical delivery will have a missing/wrong/expired/damaged item. Their customer service is lacking, and I and friends have emailed them with no response. If an item is wrong, there is an option on the site to get an automatic credit on your next delivery -- it's just a bit disheartening to need to use this on nearly every delivery. Once you get in the habit of logging in to edit your meals each week before the cutoff time, and navigate the particular oddities of the site, it's much simpler than grocery shopping. For a person like me who wanted to ease in to cooking regularly for myself, it's a healthy, customizable, and mostly easy solution -- but with serious quality/inventory control issues and a pretty hefty price, I don't know that I'd recommend it.

I've been using HungryRoot for a month. Love the food. But their site is difficult to negotiate. They occasionally send things I didn't order and leave out ingredients I need. "But we were out of such and such and substituted-" is not acceptable without communication. I recently stopped ordering tofu based meals because of household preferences. I put tofu on the "never eat" list and deleted the meal that contained that ingredient. I then added a different meal. I received both the meal that I deleted and the meal I added. Also, extras I didn't order at all--bringing my total which should have been 135.00 to 220.00. Their competitors all show the total as you make choices. It's at the top and it's visible at all times. HungryRoot provides a link at the bottom that says, "Order and pay" an amount that is not a reflection of the total and without seeing the rest of the charges, you really don't know. The 85.00 overage could have been corrected had I known.

I am so sad this isn't working out. I'm on my fourth box. My first two arrived on time and in good order. I only had one problem on my first order (a spoiled salad kit), and one problem on my second order (one of the sweet potatoes was half rotted). Everything else was fine, and it really did help me cook and provide better meals for my family. The third box arrived very late, and after looking at the (crappy, bare bones tracking) it looked like the box had been on the truck for six whole days. When it finally arrived, the ice packs were almost completely warm and much of the food packaging was swelled up like it was starting to spoil. I had to throw out everything except for the non-perishable snack items. Getting a hold of customer service was a nightmare. I gave them another chance with our fourth box and it was again, delayed. On the truck for five days. The trucks aren't refrigerated so I have to throw out most of the kit. Wish they'd get their crap together.

"I wanted to love this... but it's terrible"

I really wanted to love this. They have many problems, however. 100% of our orders had an issue. Two were late on delivery, lasership is a terrible delivery service and will be the ultimate ruin for this company. The other order was substituted for something that I am allergic to and made a meal essentially useless. Otherwise, if you ignore the glaring major issues, the food itself was alright. They definitely shine in the vegetarian arena, but their poultry was lacking and kind of disappointing.

"very poor customer service and delivery"

food is delicious, would be perfect if delivery and customer service were also reliable. I can withstand an occasional delivery issue, but when I'm counting on the delivery to provide meals for two days and it's not arrived yet, it would be nice to know why/ and be warned in advance of a delivery issue. customer service consists of an email back in a week saying, "I see that your delivery has arrived, if there is anything else I can do for you contact us again" - they did refund my money but I cancelled the service anyways..

"Never received my meals"

I was supposed to receive my meal package last Sunday. FedEx might have lost the package due to winter storm. I have been trying to contact them all week and skip my delivery until I hear from them. I skipped my delivery this Sunday and next thing you know, they decided to change my area delivery date to next Tuesday, so instead of next delivery being on 3/14 , now it is on the 9th. I am still trying to contact them as all this mess is going on.

I am so unhappy with hungryroot. I received about 8 boxes total. Confirmation emails aren't sent orders until AFTER the order is placed, so no reminders to update your box or skip for the week. Items have been missing in almost every box I have received. I have had several items expired BEFORE the expiration date on the package. I've only been using hungryroot since it's a healthy alternative during the pandemic. After the last box I had, I just couldn't so it anymore. Absolutely fed up with their service. I had canceled my subscription and then randomly my account was reactivated WITHOUT my knowledge so I was charged for another box. Again, they don't send confirmation emails so I was in the dark until my credit card was charged. I reached out to them within 24 hours of the charge and they refuse to cancel the order. Also they don't have a phone number you can call. It's only through email or text, which is absurd. Horrible customer service.
