First Impressions

October is here, and that means it's spooky season! I love TokyoTreat and its fun packaging, but October makes it even more exciting with all the festive clip art and bright colors. I was thrilled when this month's TokyoTreat box arrived in our mailbox! As we flipped through the included booklet and sampled all 14 fun and unique snacks straight from Japan, unboxing it truly felt like opening a special Halloween treat.
After unboxing quite a few TokyoTreat boxes over the years, I can honestly say that it’s still one of the most exciting subscription boxes to receive—and I’m definitely still a fan!

What's Inside the Box
To welcome us to TokyoTreat, we first received a cute polaroid type picture with a note from Ayumi, the TokyoTreat CEO. A sweet addition, this truly makes me feel like part of the family! ❤️
Along with more than a dozen tasty snacks, Tokyo Treat also includes a colorful magazine packed with snack information, cultural information, trivia, facts, and contests! While exact nutritional information isn't shared, (it is on the package, but unless you know how to read Japanese, you're probably out of luck), the pamphlet does include if a food contains a common allergen, what it might contain traces of, and if it is suitable for vegetarians. A great summary of this month's box, my boys loved reading through this guide!
Cheesecake KitKats
Just about every month, we receive a big bag of KitKat bars from Tokyo featuring a variety of unique flavors. While we've tried strawberry cheesecake KitKats in the past, this original cheesecake flavor was a new one for us, and I really enjoyed it! These bars were creamy, sweet, and had a subtle cheesecake flavor that even those who aren't big cheesecake fans will appreciate. The whole family loved them, and they disappeared in no time! The kids also got a kick out of seeing Spider-Man on the packaging and agreed that these were definitely one of their favorite treats in the box.
Pokémon Halloween Chocolate Puffs
Speaking of fun packaging, this treat definitely wins the award for best design! I love Pokémon, and while my kids aren't quite as into it as I am, they thought the adorable Halloween Bulbasaur design was epic. The tiny package featured carved pumpkins and the cutest Halloween-themed clip art, making it extra fun to open. Inside, we found tasty Pikachu-shaped treats that reminded me a little of Count Chocula cereal, only slightly sweeter. We really enjoyed this fun addition to the box, and the kids gobbled them up in no time! They even mentioned that they hope to see more Pokémon snacks in future TokyoTreat boxes.
Cherry & Mixed Berry Ghost Marshmallows
This next treat was especially exciting because it came in a pretty large package! Charlie is obsessed with marshmallows, so I knew right away this one was going to be a hit. Staying true to the Halloween theme, the packaging features an adorable ghost wearing a witch's hat, and the marshmallows inside are shaped like little ghosts, too! With cherry and mixed berry flavors, these sweet, fruity treats are packed with flavor, and there's a generous amount to share. I loved that there were so many because I was able to pack a few in each kid's school snacks and keep some in my classroom to share with my students. Everyone was a fan!
Wicked Donut Sticks
Prepackaged donuts can be hit or miss, but this one was surprisingly good! Once again, we were greeted with the cutest spooky packaging, and the donut itself didn't disappoint. Made with Japanese wheat flour and brown sugar, it had a dense texture and rich flavor that paired perfectly with my morning coffee. The kids weren't quite as enthusiastic about this one and said it was just okay, but I really enjoyed it! I also found that sipping a hot beverage alongside it helped balance out the chewiness and made it even more enjoyable.
Phantom Puffed Rice Bites
I'll be honest: the kids were a little hesitant to try this treat—not because of the ghost on the front, but because it looked a bit like a stick of seaweed! After I assured them it was a sweet snack, they decided to give it a try and discovered a light, crispy puffed-wheat treat that was easy to munch on and quite different from the snacks we typically find here in the US. While it wasn't something they loved enough to ask me to hunt down online and buy more of, they enjoyed trying something new and, of course, thought the cute packaging was a fun touch!
Spooky Chewy Candy
This next treat was certainly an interesting one and immediately reminded me of the movie Flubber! The Spooky Chewy Candy was inspired by Japan's Lifeguard energy drink, and the packaging definitely reflects that fun, colorful theme. I wasn't quite sure what to make of this one, especially since it's described as a "paste candy," so we decided to set it aside for the time being.
One of my students at school was absolutely fascinated by it and begged to have it, so we struck up a little deal. If he shows up to school every day next week, I'll let him have the paste candy on Thursday! While that means I probably won't get to try it myself, it's a small price to pay if it helps improve his attendance. What do you think? Will this sweet little deal pay off? I'm certainly hoping so!
Monster Bubble Gum
I love gum, and I'll be honest, I didn't read the description too closely before trying this one! It's energy drink-flavored, which tasted a lot like lemonade to me. I really enjoyed the flavor and was surprised by how soft the candy was before it transformed into gum. At first, I actually wondered if it was gum at all, but after my third piece, everything finally started to make sense!
I tried the first two pieces at home and enjoyed their sweet, lemony flavor. They were delicious, and I was able to chew them for quite a while. Then, on my last day, I popped another piece into my mouth at school and was shocked by how different it tasted! I honestly thought I was going a little crazy. Ha!
As it turns out, the included booklet explains that each piece has a different level of sourness, with an extra-sour surprise hidden among them. Guess who ended up with that one on the very last day? That's right, me! What a funny little surprise. I loved the playful twist, and it definitely made this gum memorable!
Shadow Rice Crackers
We've had plenty of sweet and sour treats this month, so it was nice to receive something savory for a change! This crispy, fried rice cracker featured soy sauce and a touch of sweet honey, creating a delicious balance of sweet and savory flavors. It was a simple but tasty snack that the kids and I enjoyed trying together.
Of course, the Halloween-themed packaging made it even more fun! Since my kids will be out of state on a hunting trip over Halloween, sampling all these festive treats has been their own little trick-or-treating adventure!
Haunted Hi-Chew Candy Treats
Hi-Chews are a popular snack here in the US, but this packaging is sooo much cooler than anything I've seen before! The adorable pyramid-shaped package holds a handful of chewy, fruity candies in fun pastel colors. With pumpkins scattered all over the packaging, it's another perfect addition to this month's Halloween theme. I'm seriously impressed by how consistently TokyoTreat incorporates the monthly theme into its snacks and packaging, and it's clear just how much thought goes into putting these boxes together. So far, this box has been such a fun and festive treat to unbox!
Vanilla Angel Pie Marshmallow Cake
The Vanilla Angel Pie Marshmallow Cake was another sweet little treat that we enjoyed trying! With its combination of chocolate, soft cake, and fluffy marshmallow, it was a delicious snack that satisfied our sweet tooth without being too overwhelming. The cute packaging was another fun bonus, and these individually wrapped treats have been so much fun to pull out of our lunch boxes at school and show the other kids! It's always exciting to share these unique Japanese snacks and see everyone's reactions, and this one was a fun addition to the box.
Midnight Fright Vanilla Wafers
The next item we received was a package of vanilla wafers! These round, crispy wafers feature a sweet vanilla filling, decorative edges, and the word "Bourbon" embossed right on top. They're generously sized, making them great for sharing, and their subtle sweetness made them an easy, enjoyable snack. This was another great addition to the box, and a nice change of pace from some of the sweeter treats we tried this month!
Black Pumpkin Gratin Fright Rings
This large bag of black rings was a little spooky to open at first, but I have to say, these turned out to be one of the tastiest treats in the entire box! Pumpkin-flavored, these cheesy rings were crispy, salty, and absolutely delicious. The bag was generously sized, with plenty to share with the whole family, so we divided them up and brought some to school for snack time. Everyone loved them! This is definitely one of those treats the kids have already asked me to scour the internet to find more of. That's always a good sign when it comes to a TokyoTreat snack!
Creepy Crawlie Yakisoba Noodles
While snacks are always fun, a full lunch is even better! This month, we received a package of "Creepy Crawlie Yakisoba Noodles," and I can't wait to give them a try! These springy noodles come with a savory, slightly sweet sauce and a little kick of spice, making them sound like a delicious and satisfying meal. They're also suitable for vegetarians, which is a nice bonus! With such a fun Halloween-inspired name, these noodles are a unique addition to the box, and I'm looking forward to whipping them up for lunch soon!
Caramel Chocolate Bar
Last but not least, we received a delicious candy bar! Candy bars are always a fun treat that the kids and I appreciate getting to enjoy, and this one had a little bit of everything. Combining white chocolate, caramel, and crunchy bits into one tasty bar, it offered a delicious mix of flavors and textures.
It wasn't overly sweet, and all the flavors blended together beautifully to create a smooth, chocolatey treat that left us wanting more. The bar was generously sized, with convenient segments that made it easy to break apart and share. I could even imagine using it to make a fun twist on a classic s'more! Unfortunately, it was so good that we devoured it before we had a chance to save any for later. Another fun and delicious addition to this month's TokyoTreat box!
The Verdict
As you may know, I have plenty of experience reviewing snack boxes, and after several months of receiving TokyoTreat, I can honestly say it's an amazing subscription and one of our absolute favorites of all time!
From browsing the included booklet and sampling all the snacks to checking out the extra online offers, my family always enjoys the full experience. This month's box was not only packed with fun, festive Halloween packaging but also featured plenty of delicious treats! We enjoyed trying everything, and not a single snack went to waste. That's always a good sign!
We absolutely love this subscription and can't wait to see what's waiting inside the November box. What do you think next month's theme will be? Share your guesses in the comments below!

To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, you are able to sign up to receive this particular box until 11/15.
Value Breakdown: For $37.50 + $12.50 shipping, you're receiving 14 different Japanese snacks. At about $3.57 a pack, this is a bit pricier than some American snacks, but because it is shipping from Japan and creates an entire experience, it's unlikely you could order these snacks separately for cheaper.
