IPSY Extra “The Soft Reset” Review – August 2026

IPSY leaned into summer recovery this month.

A soft reset in peak summer? Interesting call, IPSY. They're going all in on restore, relax, and stay cool with nourishing formulas, soft textures, and small rituals. And honestly? In theory, I'm into it. My hair has been through it. My skin has been through it. August in Florida will humble you. The question is whether this box actually delivered on that promise.

Spoiler: mostly yes, with a couple of very notable exceptions.

What is IPSY Extra? IPSY Extra is a $32 monthly beauty and makeup subscription box that sends 5 beauty items — at least 4 full-sized — covering skincare, makeup, nails, haircare, fragrance, and more. If you're a beauty addict, this one's worth a look.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

What’s Inside

Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Hue Drops – Retail Value $36

Shade: Sun Glow

Let me start with the good: I actually love the idea of stashing this for fall, when you want to hold onto that summer glow a little longer. The formula is genuinely impressive with niacinamide for pore-minimizing and brightening over time. On paper, this is a skincare-meets-makeup hybrid that delivers real results for your skin. In practice? On my face, it's way too over the top. I have oily skin, and the Sun Glow shade gave me full glitter-ball-exploded-on-my-face energy. Not the vibe.

This is still genuinely incredible on the arms and legs. The warm bronze tint and the glow it delivers on body skin is exactly what I want poolside. So not wasted, just reassigned.

Would I recpurhacse? No.

Laura Geller The Wearables: Pinking Of You Multi-Finish Eyeshadows – Retail Value $35

BY FAR the best Laura Geller eyeshadow palette I've received from IPSY. Not even close. These 12 rosy neutrals — ranging from soft rose to deep mauve — are genuinely beautiful, buildable, and wearable for actual real life. The mix of matte, shimmer, satin, and metallic finishes means you can go from a soft everyday eye to something more polished for night without reaching for a second palette. And they layer beautifully; you can apply them dry for a subtle wash of color or build them up for more intensity.

Would I repurchase? Yes.

Lucky Chick Precision Brow Pencil – Retail Value $18

A blonde brow pencil. In my bag. I have no idea. My settings are correct — I've checked. So I'll review the product itself, with the caveat that the shade is completely wrong for me.

The brush end is softer than most brow pencils, which I actually like. The pencil tip is angled, which in theory should work for precision, but in practice it made getting a truly fine, hair-like stroke nearly impossible. This reads more like a fill-in brow product than a precision one, which is fine if that's what you're after, but the name is a little misleading.

Would I repurchase? No.

Dae Hair Dream Veil Hair & Body Fragrance Mist – Retail Value $24

The only product in this box that fully delivers on "vacation mode activated." And it is perfect. The scent is the same sparkling citrus the brand is known for: bright and fresh up front, with orange blossom in the middle and a warm vanilla finish that actually lingers without being heavy. What I love about this, specifically as a hair mist (versus just a body spray), is that Dae formulated it with cactus water, so it's actually hydrating to your strands, not just dousing your hair in alcohol like a regular perfume would. It's already claimed a permanent spot in my gym bag for post-workout refreshes.

Would I repurchase? Yes.

Olaplex No. 5 Leave-In Moisturizer & Mend Leave-In Conditioner – Retail Value $34

Thank you, IPSY. This is what a curated pick looks like. After a summer of beach water, chlorine, and South Florida sun, my hair genuinely needed this. I don't care what the Olaplex discourse says at this point. This product works. Use it once or twice a week and your hair will stay sleek, split ends will mend, and you'll have genuinely luscious locks going into fall. Period.

Would I repurchase? Yes.

Value – Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $32

This Box: $147

Honestly, this box did the soft reset thing better than most IPSY boxes do their themes. Two of the five products aren't for me (the brow pencil and the Glow Recipe drops on my face), but the Laura Geller palette and the Olaplex leave-in are both standout picks that I'll actually use and love. The Dae mist is the kind of discovery you're happy to have stumbled on. Three solid wins out of five is a good box.
