Ipsy Extra “Blend the Rules” Review – June 2026

IPSY said turn up the color. Then sent me a nude lip duo. I have thoughts.

I'm obsessed with this month's theme: turn up the color, take up space, make them look. To me, that's what IPSY used to be all about — a fun makeup box built for playing around and discovering new favorites. And while the box was a 50/50 mix of skincare and makeup, I have to say this one delivered some pretty serious picks.

What is IPSY Extra?
IPSY Extra is a $32/month beauty and makeup subscription box that sends 5 beauty items — at least 4 full-sized — covering skincare, makeup, nails, haircare, fragrance, and more. If you're a beauty addict, this one's worth a look.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

What's Inside

The IPSY Bag

THE BAG IS BACK! I used to love these pouches, and I'm so glad they're including them again. You obviously don't need one every month, but I really hope we get these at least every other drop. I used to save them for gift-wrapping — they're so cute and honestly make the perfect little gift bag.

PATCHOLOGY Playing Defense Barrier-Boosting Sheet Masks – Retail Value: $19

I'll be traveling soon, so I was happy to have sheet masks ready for the plane — iykyk. These aren't skin-transforming by any means, but they fit well and are absolutely drenched in serum. Don't let what's left in the packet go to waste — there's more than enough to treat your décolleté too.

Would I repurchase? Sure.

RARE BEAUTY Stay Vulnerable Melting Blush – Retail Value: $24

Shade: Nearly Neutral

If you've read my reviews before, you know I will go to war for creamy blushes. I prefer them over liquid and powder in a heartbeat — no contest. And having tried some of Rare Beauty's liquid formulas, this one is so much better. It melts into your fingers the second you touch it, and while this shade isn't quite right for my complexion (it's way too light — I needed about six layers for it to show), it delivers the most natural-looking flush I've ever tried. It genuinely looks like your skin just... blushed. My favorite part? The cream-to-powder formula means I don't have to set it like I would my other blushes. Out of everything I've tried from Rare Beauty, this is my absolute favorite.

Would I repurchase? Absolutely.

GLOW RECIPE Watermelon Glow Dew Shield SPF 30 – Retail Value: $35

This Month's MVP

I'm genuinely a huge fan of this sunscreen, especially for not-so-sunny days or when I know I'll be mostly indoors. As a South Florida girl, anything under SPF 50 is not the move when you're actually going outside. But I also love using this as a primer under makeup for a night out, because it leaves the most beautiful dewy base and sets surprisingly well. So, why not?

Would I repurchase? I already have — so yes.

TOYFACTORY Nialip Liner Duo – Retail Value: $40

Shade: Nude Protocol + Deep Seek

Objectively: great lip liners. No dragging on application, they stay creamy even after they dry, and the tip gives you a genuinely precise line. Now, subjectively: IPSY, why are you sending me these shades? My preferences are set for a reason, and these don't come close to making that cut. Also — who pays $40 for a lip liner duo? Am I just too cheap about lip products? Asking for a friend.

Would I repurchase? Hard pass.

FORMULA Z Aura Energy Glowing Primer – Retail Value: $24

I'm loyal to my Saie glowing primer, but I was open to being converted. This one felt drier than I expected, which is funny because it's marketed as infused with something called "hyaluronic Z technology" (whatever that means) and prickly pear cactus, which is known for its soothing and hydrating properties. So the dry finish was a surprise. I think the heavy mica load is what's doing it — there is a lot of glitter in this formula. Also: one pump. Maybe half a pump. Two pumps and you will be glowing like a Cullen, and not in a cute way.

Would I repurchase? No.

Value – Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $32
Total Value: $142

Totally worth it. This box came in like a wrecking ball compared to the last few. Between this and the ICON box, IPSY is genuinely on a roll right now. The Rare Beauty blush alone changed my mind about a product I'd written off as just pretty packaging — and the Glow Recipe sunscreen is always a welcome addition. My only real note: if the theme is "turn up the color," maybe don't send a nude lip combo and a nearly neutral blush. Someone missed that memo.
