TokyoTreat Review – May 2026

Becca Peterson
ByBecca PetersonMay 12, 2026 | 0 comments

TokyoTreat is a monthly subscription box filled with candy and other tasty snacks that ship directly from Japan. Savory, sweet, salty—all the flavors given to you with authentic products you would find in a convenience store in Japan.

TokyoTreat ships monthly and includes full size premium products. With 12-17 treats in each box, they hit all of the flavor stops! More information about the snacks included can be found here.

This review is of the Premium Box which costs $37.50 a month + shipping.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

May is finally here, and I couldn’t be more excited! We’re officially counting down to summer vacation, and with only 16 school days left, I’ve already started putting together my summer bucket list. Between nonstop practices, games, and our constantly packed schedule, life has felt a little chaotic lately, so taking a moment to slow down was much needed.

Thankfully, this month’s TokyoTreat box arrived at the perfect time. Filled with thirteen fun and unique snacks straight from Japan, it was such a treat to open and explore.

After unboxing quite a few TokyoTreat boxes over the years, I can honestly say it’s still one of the most exciting subscription boxes to receive—and I’m absolutely a fan!

Keep reading to see all the delicious discoveries inside.

What's Inside the Box

To welcome us to TokyoTreat, we first received a cute polaroid type picture with a note from Ayumi, the TokyoTreat CEO. A sweet addition, this truly makes me feel like part of the family! ❤️

Along with more than a dozen tasty snacks, Tokyo Treat also includes a colorful magazine packed with snack information, cultural information, trivia, facts, and contests! While exact nutritional information isn't shared, (it is on the package, but unless you know how to read Japanese, you're probably out of luck), the pamphlet does include if a food contains a common allergen, what it might contain traces of, and if it is suitable for vegetarians. A great summary of this month's box, my boys loved reading through this guide!

Salted Caramel KitKats - Retail Value $9.99

Almost every month, this subscription box includes a large bag of individually wrapped KitKats straight from Tokyo in a fun new flavor—and this month’s salted caramel version was absolutely decadent.

Springtime weather here in Minnesota is completely unpredictable. One day it’s 20 degrees and snowing, and the next it’s 70 and sunny. These arrived on one of those warmer days, so they melted a little during delivery, but thankfully they firmed right back up and still tasted amazing.

Filled with rich salted caramel and coated in creamy milk chocolate, these were easily one of our favorite treats in the box. The four of us demolished the entire bag in no time, and we would absolutely love to see this flavor make another appearance in the future!

Octopus Rice Cracker

The next item we received took things in a savory direction and featured octopus. These crispy rice crackers were made with bits of octopus and coated in a sweet and spicy soy sauce seasoning. Round in shape and crunchy like a traditional cracker, they definitely had a strong seafood aroma.

My kids were a little hesitant to try them, but I decided to give them a go—and they were actually pretty decent. I’m not a huge fan of octopus, but at least now I can say I’ve tried it!

Cola Mochi Bites

One of our favorite things about this box—besides getting to try new treats—is admiring all of the fun and creative packaging. Here in the U.S., snack packaging can feel pretty ordinary, so it’s always exciting to see the unique presentation styles from Japan.

This next treat came in a tiny styrofoam tray and even included a little toothpick for snacking. Inside were several bite-sized pieces of mochi candy. Similar to fruit snacks but slightly denser in texture, these chewy treats were bursting with sweet cola flavor.

The kids had so much fun picking them up with the toothpick, and they absolutely loved the taste. Overall, these were definitely a hit!

Pai no Mi Maple Butter Bites

The next sweet treat we received was a large box of Pan no Mi Maple Butter Bites. Since it’s been maple syrup season around here, we were especially excited to try Japan’s take on a maple butter treat.

These tiny pastries are made with 64 layers of buttery, flaky pie crust and filled with rich maple chocolate. The light, delicate crust paired perfectly with the sweet filling and left us instantly wanting more.

These were seriously delicious and quickly became a favorite in our house. In fact, they were practically fought over because they were just that good!

Karinto Fried Bites

Up next was another savory snack. This bright yellow package was filled with wheat-based crackers fried with brown sugar and coated in a tangy sauce that created the perfect balance of sweet and sour flavor. Light, puffy, and wonderfully crunchy, these were absolutely delicious.

Seaweed Salt Potato Chips

My boys are huge chip fans, so they were excited to try a Japanese version—even with “seaweed” in the name. Normally, anything green makes them a little hesitant, but they were surprisingly open to giving these a try, and they ended up really enjoying them.

Made with wheat and sesame and sprinkled with flakes of seaweed, these chips had a light crunch and a unique savory flavor that the boys thought was really fun and tasty.

Sherbet Pero Candy Stick

Next up was easily one of my favorite snacks in the box. I’m usually not a huge fan of suckers or Fun Dip-style candy, but this treat combined the best of both in a way that was so unexpectedly delicious, I may have to hunt some down online.

The lollipop itself was super sweet with a hint of cola flavor. Cola candy normally isn’t my favorite, but it paired perfectly with the sour orange candy powder included in the package. Dipping the sucker into the tangy powder created the most amazing sweet-and-sour combination.

I honestly ate every last bit of the candy dust and was still wishing for more afterward. My kids tried it too and absolutely loved it. Out of all the snacks in the box, this fun little treat may have ended up being my favorite—and that definitely surprised me!

Vanilla and Chocolate Chip Candy Bar

Chocolate bars are always a welcome treat, and this month’s vanilla and chocolate chip version was especially delicious. Crunchy and full of flavor, this bar almost resembled a granola bar, but it was packed with rich chocolatey goodness.

My kids loved it, and so did my husband, which definitely made this one a winner in our house!

Mini Sugar Donuts

I love a good mini donut, but they’re usually warm, fresh, and covered in plenty of sugar. This version wasn’t quite that, but it was still a solid pre-packaged snack.

With a flavor reminiscent of my grandma’s homemade donuts, these were sweet without being overpowering and had a pleasantly dense, cake-like texture that brought back memories of my younger days.

Overall, we enjoyed this treat, and we definitely wouldn’t be disappointed to receive them again.

Sour Lemon Gummies

I’ve mentioned this before, but my kids love gummies. This version was a little different from most, though—it was lemon-flavored and sour. Chewy in texture, these were really tasty, but they definitely packed a punch.

I couldn’t help making a bit of a pucker face while eating them, but my son confidently declared they were “nothing compared to War Heads!” I’ll take his word for it, but I still really enjoyed this snack.

They were gone in no time, and it seemed like I was the “baby” of the bunch when it came to handling the sourness—but I’m perfectly okay with that!

Nigi Nigi Sushi Gummies

If you’ve read any of my previous reviews, you’ll know that my kids are not fans of sushi. That said, they were absolutely huge fans of this “Nigi Nigi Sushi Gummies” treat we received!

The set came in a cute plastic tray filled with colorful, differently textured gummies, allowing us to build our own little gummy sushi creations. Both fun to assemble and delicious to eat, these quickly became a hit and left my kids wishing there was more!

Ramune Candy

The next item we received was a hard candy with a light soda flavor and a subtle fizz, similar in shape to a Life Saver. While it wasn’t the most exciting treat in the box, it was still fun to try.

The individually wrapped pieces also make them perfect for keeping in your pocket or bag for a quick little pick-me-up throughout the day!

Yummy Yakisoba

The final item we received was actually a lunch option! This month’s box included a package of Yakisoba ramen! The photo on the package looks absolutely delicious, and preparation is simple: just bring water to a boil and add the noodles.

Instead of keeping this one for myself, I decided to save it for a student at school. Each month, I bring in the ramen from the box, and my students get so excited. It adds a little extra fun to their day—and, admittedly, it’s become a pretty effective motivator for getting some extra schoolwork done. Hey, you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do, right?

The Verdict

As you may know, I have a lot of experience reviewing snack boxes—and after several months of receiving TokyoTreat, I can honestly say this is an amazing subscription and our absolute favorite of all time! After browsing the pamphlet, tasting all the snacks, and checking out the extra online offers, my family was beyond impressed. This month’s curation was a really nice mix of sweet and savory snacks, and my kids really like everything except the octopus crackers! Overall, we were once again impressed by the variety and some of the best packaging we’ve seen in any snack box. We’re already looking forward to June’s box and have our fingers crossed for more chocolate and individually wrapped candy fun! Any guesses on next month’s theme? Comment below!

Value Breakdown: For $37.50 + $12.50 shipping, you're receiving 13 different Japanese snacks.
