First Impressions

Beauty Heroes believes in a less-is-more approach to packaging. My products arrived in a neat white box, nestled in crinkled, recyclable brown paper to ensure a safe delivery.

I've been an active member of the subscription box community for eons now; Ursa Major is one of the first brands I encountered, thanks to Birchbox, in the early days of my sub box era (which is actually my forever/ongoing era). I remember their samples fondly, and I've always been tempted to learn more about their brand.

Thanks to May's Beauty Heroes, which features two of Ursa Major's serum products, I got to scratch the itch of wonderment of this brand. Emily Doyle and Oliver Sweitzer's mission with their skincare brand was to create forest-powered formulas that are simple to use and made with clean ingredients that energize and feel revitalizing every day.

In all of my years as a true subscription box enthusiast, I've never seen a box play off of past boxes as Beauty Heroes does with their Ritual of the Month card. It is brilliant! They refer to previous boxes, giving you ideas for which items may work together and how to mix and match different products. This month's card calls back to products from True Botanicals, Solara Suncare, and Laurel Skin.

The Products

Ursa Major Golden Hour Body Serum, 5fl oz - Retail Value $54

When it comes to the body, I used to take a strictly wash-and-hydrate approach, but I am aging; it was inevitable. The bare minimum is just not cutting it anymore, so this winter, I jumped on the body serum bandwagon, and I will never look back. I've noticed such a huge difference in my skin texture and tone. Why not treat your body to skin-loving ingredients? After a shower, I apply a few pumps to wet skin, and it instantly drinks it in. I feel hydrated all day without needing an oily or heavy moisturizer, plus I love the subtle aroma of sandalwood it leaves behind. This formula is so rich in botanicals including bee balm leaf which is full of antioxidants, meadowsweet extract which tones and refines, daisy extract brightens, and horsetail firms the skin.

Ursa Major Mountain Glow Serum, 1fl oz - Retail Value $84

This serum is an absolute treat for the skin. Usually when I am testing a product, I will put it on when I can be bare faced for a while to see how it is working with my chemistry; however, I was too excited to try this one out. I put it on under my makeup before work, and when I checked my reflection in the mirror, I thought to myself, wow, my skin looks amazing today! I've worn it every morning and night since then, and yes, my skin really is glowing. This formula is full of adaptogens including agarikon and reishi mushrooms to refine and calm stressed skin. It also has kombucha to boost the skin's radiance and red clover for firming and smoothing.

Verdict

Ursa Major has been one of those brands in my periphery for years; their ingredients and packaging always excited me, but I never took the plunge. Imagine my excitement when I opened this month's Beauty Heroes box and saw two full-sized, brightly packaged products! The Golden Hour Body Serum has helped stoke my obsession with body serums, and I love how the Mountain Glow Serum has made my skin look and feel rejuvenated and hydrated. It's been an impressive two months of Beauty Heroes, and I am already looking forward to what June's box may bring. May's box has a retail value of $138; you're getting two full-sized products for $58.95, an excellent deal for anyone looking to expand and enhance their clean, eco-friendly beauty arsenal on a budget.
