First Impressions

March is finally here, and I am more than ready for spring. Here in Minnesota, it’s been freezing cold and snowy for what feels like forever, and I’m definitely in need of some sunshine and vitamin D.
To help brighten my winter mood, I dove into this month’s TokyoTreat box—and it instantly put a smile on my face. Packed with thirteen unique snacks straight from Japan, it was such a joy to open. With a few TokyoTreat boxes under my belt, I can confidently say it’s one of the most exciting subscription boxes I’ve ever unboxed. I’m officially a fan!

What's Inside the Box

To welcome us to TokyoTreat, we first received a cute polaroid type picture with a note from Ayumi, the TokyoTreat CEO. A sweet addition, this truly makes me feel like part of the family! ❤️
Along with more than a dozen tasty snacks, Tokyo Treat also includes a colorful magazine packed with snack information, cultural information, trivia, facts, and contests! While exact nutritional information isn't shared, (it is on the package, but unless you know how to read Japanese, you're probably out of luck), the pamphlet does include if a food contains a common allergen, what it might contain traces of, and if it is suitable for vegetarians. A great summary of this month's box, my boys loved reading through this guide!
Sakura Kit Kats - Retail Value $13.00
We love Kit Kats, and this month’s Sakura flavor was absolutely decadent! The cherry blossom–decorated bag is beautiful, and the individual wrappers are just as charming. With delicate petals and even a space to write a note, the presentation is delightful—but the flavor is even better.
Creamy white chocolate coats a crisp wafer, and the subtle pastel pink sakura notes add just the right touch of sweetness without being overpowering. The kids and I loved them, and my husband did too. It was a perfect way to kick off the box—and now we already want more!
Sakura Peanuts
The next item we received was another fabulous treat. This pretty, clear pouch of coated peanuts also featured the lovely cherry blossom theme on the packaging—and they were delicious!
Crunchy and perfectly sweet, these are hands down the best coated peanuts I’ve ever had. With a subtle sakura flavor, they offered just the right amount of sweetness without being overwhelming. I could seriously eat buckets of these!
Cherry Blossom Cookies
Another delightful treat we received was a clear bag of pretzel-shaped cookies. These shortbread-like cookies have a subtle cherry blossom flavor that isn’t overpowering at all. The twist tie fans out beautifully at the top of the package, and the decal matches the rest of the cherry blossom–themed items perfectly. Both gorgeous and delicious, this box has truly been a joy to unpack and taste-test!
Sakura Blossom Cake
Cake is usually something I can take or leave—especially when it comes to pre-packaged versions—but this one was actually pretty good! Made with soft cake infused with cherry leaf flavor and filled with a creamy chocolate center, it was moist, tender, and surprisingly flavorful.
Without the chocolate filling, it might have been a bit plain, but that rich center really elevated it. I also loved that it was pink—once again, the way this box fully commits to its monthly theme is top-notch!
Spring Okonomiyaki Corn Puffs
The next snack we received was a small bag of corn puffs. These savory, crispy bites are inspired by okonomiyaki, the classic Japanese savory pancake. They have a nice balance of flavors—slightly sweet with a touch of salt.
The cartoon-style packaging wasn’t as pretty as the floral cherry blossom theme we’d seen so far, but my boys loved it even more! This tasty, savory snack was a welcome break from the sweeter treats we’d been enjoying and made for another great addition to the box.
Sakura Shrimp Rice Crackers
I’ll be honest—I tend to judge snacks by their packaging rather than reading the title and description in the pamphlet. So, without checking the guide (and not being able to read Japanese), I went into this one completely blind.
Because the package was pink and decorated with pretty cherry blossom petals, I assumed it would be a sweet rice treat. I was very wrong! These turned out to be Sakura Shrimp Rice Crackers. While that’s perfectly fine, I’m not a big seafood fan, so I was a bit caught off guard.
That said, my kids—who love shrimp—thought they were delicious and ended up finishing the entire bag!
Cherry Mochi Bites
I love how TokyoTreat includes the cutest snacks with the most fun packaging. I’ve never seen anything quite like this in the U.S.!
Packaged in a small plastic tray, we received 12 tiny cherry mochi bites. They’re somewhat similar to fruit snacks in presentation, but they feel much more elevated—and even come with a little toothpick for picking them up, which adds a fun, sophisticated touch.
Bursting with sweet cherry flavor, these chewy little bites were absolutely delicious. Honestly, we could have used about ten more packs!
Strawberry Cream Cookies
Another favorite inclusion this month was this roll of strawberry cream cookies. Packaged in a slim tray (with plenty of protective air), we received a full set of these delicious treats.
Springtime in Japan is peak strawberry season, and these shortbread-like cookies are filled with the most incredible strawberry cream center I’ve ever tasted. While they may look a bit plain on the outside, the burst of flavor inside is anything but. We absolutely loved them!
Rainbow Sugar Candy
My youngest son is always up for something sweet, so he was thrilled when he spotted the next treat: “Rainbow Sugar Candy.” When we poured it onto a plate, the tiny, colorful sugar crystals scattered and rattled with sugary delight.
Featuring four flavors—cherry, cola, apple, and lemon—it’s a light, non-filling treat that Charlie had a blast crunching on. And just look at that bright, Lisa Frank–style packaging—what kid (or adult) wouldn’t want to tear that open to see what’s inside?
Strawberry Milk Candies
I have to say, TokyoTreat really brought their A-game when it came to fun treats this month. My boys and I have been loving the individually wrapped candies and have had such a blast trying everything—they’re seriously unlike anything we’ve experienced before!
This particular candy is packaged a bit like a pill dispenser, which might sound odd, but it actually made it more fun to open. Featuring a cute strawberry design on the back, the pack contains 18 individual strawberry milk candy balls, each sealed in its own little foil bubble.
With a sweet, fruity flavor and a satisfying crunch, they remind me a bit of Sixlets—but they’re way more entertaining to pop out and enjoy!
Blooming Rice Cracker Bites
The next treat we received was another savory snack. This small pink package offered a break from the sweet sakura flavors and instead featured a salty seaweed variety. Inside was a mix of darker and lighter pieces, each crispy on the outside and packed with flavor.
My kids preferred the soy sauce–flavored ones and weren’t too fond of the seaweed pieces. I wasn’t particularly excited about either flavor, but it was still a nice change of pace from all the sweetness!
Cherry Blossom Donut Stick
I’m always up for a doughnut, so I was excited to try this cherry blossom donut stick. Oblong in shape, it had a slightly firm exterior with a soft, cake-like center. Coated in a sweet syrup, the flavor was decent—but it wasn’t my favorite snack overall.
Vegan Shoyu Ramen
The final item we received was actually a lunch option! This month’s box included a package of Vegan Shoyu Ramen—a soy sauce–based, plant-friendly version. The photo on the package looks absolutely delicious, and preparation is simple: just bring water to a boil and add the noodles.
Instead of keeping this one for myself, I decided to save it for a student at school. Each month, I bring in the ramen from the box, and my students get so excited. It adds a little extra fun to their day—and, admittedly, it’s become a pretty effective motivator for getting some extra schoolwork done. Hey, you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do, right?
The Verdict
As you may know, I have a lot of experience reviewing snack boxes—and after several months of receiving TokyoTreat, I can honestly say this is an amazing subscription and our absolute favorite of all time! After browsing the pamphlet, tasting all the snacks, and checking out the extra online offers, my family was beyond impressed. This month’s curation was pretty heavy on the sakura sweet snacks, and I was okay with that! We were especially thrilled to receive the Sakura KitKats, peanuts, and candy bites, and enjoyed all of the new items! Overall, we were once again impressed by the variety and some of the best packaging we’ve seen in any snack box. We’re already looking forward to April’s box and have our fingers crossed for more chocolate and individually wrapped candy fun! Any guesses on next month’s theme? Comment below!

To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, you are able to sign up to receive this particular box until 4/15.
Value Breakdown: For $37.50 + $12.50 shipping, you're receiving 13 different Japanese snacks. At about $3.85 a pack, this is a bit pricier than some American snacks, but because it is shipping from Japan and creates an entire experience, it's unlikely you could order these snacks separately for cheaper.
