First Impressions

It’s almost February, and for some reason I hadn’t seen a TokyoTreat box in a couple of months—but we’re back in business! Just in time for Valentine’s Day, this fun pink TokyoTreat box arrived to bring a little winter cheer. Packed with thirteen unique snacks straight from Japan, it was an absolute delight to open. With a bit of TokyoTreat experience under my belt, I can confidently say it’s one of the most exciting subscription boxes I’ve ever unboxed. I’m definitely a fan! Keep reading to see all the delicious discoveries inside.
What's Inside the Box
To welcome us to TokyoTreat, we first received a cute polaroid type picture with a note from Ayumi, the TokyoTreat CEO. A sweet addition, this truly makes me feel like part of the family! ❤️
Along with more than a dozen tasty snacks, Tokyo Treat also includes a colorful magazine packed with snack information, cultural information, trivia, facts, and contests! While exact nutritional information isn't shared, (it is on the package, but unless you know how to read Japanese, you're probably out of luck), the pamphlet does include if a food contains a common allergen, what it might contain traces of, and if it is suitable for vegetarians. A great summary of this month's box, my boys loved reading through this guide!
Strawberry Shortcake KitKats - Retail Value $5.99
To make the month of love even more special, we received a full-size bag of Strawberry Shortcake KitKats. These chocolate bars are seriously heavenly. Made with creamy white chocolate and a fruity, natural strawberry kick, they’ve quickly become favorites with my entire family. Wrapped in pretty pink packaging, they kicked off the February box perfectly and added a fun Valentine’s twist to our candy dish. A great start to this month’s box, these definitely won’t last long—they’re just that tasty!
Love-You-a-Lotte Chocolate Bar
The next item we received was another delicious sweet treat—this time wrapped in foil and made of pure chocolate. Each bite was incredibly creamy and sweet, and despite the perfectly portioned pieces, it didn’t stand a chance of lasting long. Had we saved some, it would have made an epic addition to a campfire s’more, but alas, between the three of us, it was gone in no time.
Mini Chocolate Candy Hearts
One of our favorite aspects of the TokyoTreat box is the inclusion of fun, packaged snacks. This was our first item with truly cute packaging, and the kids absolutely loved it. Tucked into an adorable little triangular pouch, these chocolate strawberry mini hearts were the perfect way to kick off February. Small in size but big on strawberry flavor, they were an instant hit—and they were pink, too! While the package didn’t contain a ton of hearts, it was a really fun little snack that the kids adored.
Sweet Potato Pie
When we first opened this month’s box, my youngest son was especially excited to try the Sweet Potato Pie. Once I realized it was filled with sweet potato, I was a little apprehensive, knowing it might not be his favorite—and sadly, that turned out to be true. However, my oldest son ended up enjoying it! With a sweet, flaky crust, the pie was beautiful in presentation and filled with a smooth sweet potato center. Charlie loved the crust but wasn’t a fan of the filling, while Hank enjoyed the whole thing. In the end, it turned out to be a winner!
Black Pepper Biscuits
The next snack we received was a small bag of black pepper biscuits. These crackers had a similar shape and texture to a Ritz cracker, but were darker and smaller. Topped with a hint of black pepper, they were a bit spicier than a traditional cracker, yet still tasty in their own way.
White Peach Gummies
The kids are all about gummies, so they were really excited to try these white peach gummies. Packaged in a resealable pouch, there was a generous amount bursting with juicy white peach flavor. Soft and chewy, they were a big hit—and the kids were definitely hoping for more. Another win!
Soy Sauce Senbei
The next item we received was a bag of soy sauce rice crackers, and this was one of the few snacks the kids didn’t love. Sprinkled with soy sauce and seaweed, they were definitely flavorful—just not in a way that appealed to them. I thought they were okay, though I’m not a huge fan of rice crackers to begin with. While they were fun to try, we ended up setting them aside for my school snack stash, perfect for a kiddo who loves seaweed-flavored snacks.
Umaibo Sugar Rusk
If sugary treats are up your alley, you’ll definitely enjoy this Umaibo Sugar Rusk snack. Shaped like a giant puffed corn stick, it’s light and airy while still packing a sweet, sugary twist. With notes of caramel corn, the kids thought it was tasty, though they did admit they would have preferred smaller bites for easier eating.
Curry Crackers
After quite a few sweet treats, I was excited to try these Curry Crackers. Packed with a flavorful blend of curry spices, these orange crackers were fabulous. Made from wheat and shaped like fries, they delivered a curry flavor that was absolutely addicting. With just a little spice, they weren’t too hot and left all of us wanting more. We’d happily take these anytime!
Chocolate Genji Pie
The next item we received was small but mighty. This chocolate Genji Pie was heart-shaped—perfect for Valentine’s Day—and featured layers of flaky dough covered in chocolate. A sweet and tasty little treat, the kids and I split it three ways, and we all agreed it deserved two thumbs up!
Piro Piro Grape Lollipop
Charlie was thrilled to receive the next item. He’s all about silly snacks, and this one was truly unique. A grape-flavored whistle lollipop wasn’t on my bingo card, but Charlie was beyond excited! With a grape flavor and a fun whistle-shaped end, you could literally whistle a tune while enjoying it. A playful addition, Charlie would definitely love more candies like this in the future!
Caramel Popcorn
Caramel popcorn is one of my family’s favorite snacks. This little bag featured the Japanese version, and while it was a bit smashed, it was still tasty. Each kernel was coated in caramel and very similar to the versions we enjoy in the U.S.
Hiroshima Oyster Salt Ramen
The final item we received was a lunch option! This month’s box included Hiroshima Oyster Salt Ramen, and while we haven’t tried it yet, we love that it lets us enjoy an entire Japanese-style meal just by adding water. This ramen contains the following common allergens: wheat, egg, soy, and molluscan shellfish. The kids were a bit hesitant after hearing “oyster” and “scallop,” but I have a student who LOVES these flavors, so it will be happily enjoyed next week!
The Verdict
As you may know, I have a lot of experience reviewing snack boxes—and after several months of receiving TokyoTreat, I can honestly say this is an amazing subscription and our absolute favorite of all time! After browsing the pamphlet, tasting all the snacks, and checking out the extra online offers, my family was beyond impressed. This month’s curation offered a wonderful mix of sweet and salty treats, and I always love the inclusion of ramen. We were especially thrilled to receive the Strawberry Shortcake KitKats, and we enjoyed all the sweet Valentine’s treats as well as the savory curry crackers. Overall, we were once again impressed by the variety and some of the best packaging we’ve seen in any snack box. We’re already looking forward to March’s box and have our fingers crossed for more chocolate and whistle-like treats! Any guesses on next month’s theme? Comment below!

To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, you are able to sign up to receive this particular box until 3/15.
Value Breakdown: For $37.50 + $12.50 shipping, you're receiving 13 different Japanese snacks. At about $3.85 a pack, this is a bit pricier than some American snacks, but because it is shipping from Japan and creates an entire experience, it's unlikely you could order these snacks separately for cheaper.
