First Impressions
The monthly Beauty Heroes delivery comes in a white box with a red-dotted sticker sealing it. Inside, our products of the month fit perfectly with the brown crinkle paper needed for it to arrive safely.
Our folded card introduces us to Live Botanical, an herbalist-founded skincare brand based in Portland, Oregon. They create botanical formulations rooted in traditional herbalism with modern bio‑available extraction methods, and they put an emphasis on sustainability and whole-plant infusions. Some of my favorite beauty brands have this type of relationship with plants! Using them is therapy.
This month's One Way to Play card suggests starting with last months' Oio Lab cleanser/mask that I love so dearly, then a four-step hydration process featuring our two new Live Botanical products and then two other past deliveries. It's a great way to end the day.
The Products
Live Botanical Solar Return Revitalizing Essence, 50 ml - Retail Value $64
Live Botanical’s Revitalizing Essence is a silky, nutrient-rich fluid that deeply hydrates, soothes inflammation, and strengthens the skin barrier with whole-plant extracts, ceramides, and beta glucan—perfect for restoring balance after long summer days outside. I've found that a little goes a long way, and I've tried it layered with multiple moisturizers and serums, and each time it lands my skin texture in a soft, smooth place. Side note, how gorgeous is the bottle? Love.
I just got back from a beach trip where I basically lived in the ocean, and while my soul was thriving, my skin was not living its best life. After days of salt water, sun, and what felt like a hundred sunscreen reapplications, I came home parched and irritated, with a lot of buildup and blemishes around my nose. This Revitalizing Essence has been my skin’s comeback coach. This lush, golden fluid sinks in like a dream—restoring hydration, calming inflammation, and bringing back that healthy bounce I thought I’d traded for seashells and SPF.
Live Botanical Renewing Concentrate, 30 ml - Retail Value $68
Next up we have a rich, botanical balm that deeply nourishes dry or dull skin, firms and supports elasticity, and seals in long-lasting hydration. It uses high-potency rose, seaberry, lupine, oat, and cupuaçu butter. I hadn't heard of cupuaçu butter, but learned it's an Amazonian butter with a unique ability to attract and retain moisture—some say even moreso than shea butter. Plus, you all know I love a balm. I've been living for cleansing balms, but this is one you don't have to rinse off, and my skin is soaking its goodness up gratefully.
You're meant to apply this balm to damp skin and it's become such a wonderful ritual, wrapping in antioxidants, omegas, and plant peptides. Within nights I noticed a subtle lift—redness softened, my barrier felt reinforced, and the glow I’d buffed off at the beach quietly returned. The scent is a faintly floral, herbal situation that's so, so good.
Verdict
Beauty Heroes nailed it for me this month. Summer skin is always needy, but this box arrived just as mine was starting to talk to me, and presented me with deep and profound healing and hydration. This box costs $58.95. Our two products add up to $132. That's on the low side of typical in terms of value, but I love the products so much this month that they could add up to anything at all and I'd be over the moon!
