Silk + Sonder July 2025

Summer vacation is here, and sadly, this past month has flown by all too quickly! Although I don't work during the summer, I've only been home for one full day this month, as baseball and camps have taken over my life. With everything going on, my Silk + Sonder planner has been essential for staying organized—without it, managing all the chaos would be overwhelming!

Independence - The ability to rely on oneself, make autonomous decisions, and take control of one's life, free from influence or reliance on others.

I love that Silk + Sonder selects a unique theme for each month, and I really appreciate how thoughtful the creator, Meha, is in choosing each one. The theme for July is "Independence," which is perfect for the month that includes Independence Day! I found it to be an ideal theme for being intentional and carving out time for myself amidst the busyness of the season. Now, let’s get started!

One of my favorite things about Silk + Sonder is receiving a fresh planner each month. Starting over regularly has been incredibly helpful—yearly planners often leave me feeling overwhelmed. While this planner includes a year-at-a-glance spread, the calendar is too small to write in, but it's perfect for referencing future dates. At the beginning of each month, I fill in the calendar with any known events and then watch the days fly by! Although this month looks calmer since I'm off work, there are still plenty of events I need to keep track of (and by the end of the month, I guarantee it will be full!). Staying organized is a huge help in managing my anxiety, and having a quick-reference calendar at the front of the planner helps me stay grounded and avoid spiraling into panic.

On page 6, we open to a "Future Log," which includes two small calendars for the upcoming months. With just enough space to jot down quick notes, I typically don’t fill this section too much—but seeing September already is kind of scary! Eek! On the opposite page, there’s a "Wheel of Life" activity where you rank ten different areas of your life based on how fulfilled you feel, and note ways you can improve in each area. I tend to skim through this daily and add to it when I feel inspired. Since July hasn’t started yet, I still have plenty of time to go through and reflect. I love the flexibility and fluidity this journal offers!

Page 8 provides space to reflect on the previous month, with sections to note your wins, challenges, and favorite moments. It’s a great way to evaluate what’s working and what’s not. This is one of my favorite pages because it highlights all the accomplishments of the month. There’s also a section to jot down things you want to start, stop, and continue. June was both successful and full of challenges. My wins included the 10U tournament, my niece’s wedding, no school, and plenty of pool time. My challenges included a mystery rash (we eventually discovered Hank is allergic to grass), dental issues for Charlie, general busyness, and some intense storms. Some of my favorite moments were the wedding fun, baseball, time off work, and seeing all the beautiful flowers! Overall, it was a fantastic month—and I’m a little sad it’s already over!

I love the inclusion of the monthly intentions page. It’s a space to set goals for yourself and revisit them throughout the month. With six categories and six boxes to fill in, there’s plenty of room to jot things down. It’s not necessarily a to-do list, but more of a way to start the month with purpose and remind yourself of the things you'd like to focus on. I have a lot of intentions for July - many are the same as June’s - but one new focus is working on my OCD tendencies around house cleaning. We’ll see how it goes… wish me luck!

As I mentioned above, this is more than just a planner, and these trackers are proof of that. Pages 10 and 11 offer a mood tracker and a habit tracker. We are given space to fill in our typical moods and track them throughout the month. This is great for identifying patterns, especially for me and my anxiety. I love that these trackers are customizable, allowing you to track exactly how you want in such a pretty way! Silk + Sonder typically ships a week and a half before the next month starts, so while I have created my "keys" for each of these trackers, I haven’t yet started tracking. I have some goals to hit by my birthday this month, and the fresh monthly start has been key to my motivation! May the month of July produce more results than June did! Whoops!

Page 12 offers another tracker, this one being for sleep. I have no trouble in this department, so I usually skip it. The opposing page, however, is another one of my favorites. Page 13 offers a Gratitude Log that gives space for all 31 days in July to put down items I am grateful for each day. It's amazing how much a mindset can change for the better when you start your day off journaling what you are grateful for. I highly recommend it, even if you don't have this particular planner!

This month’s theme is “Independence,” accompanied by a few thoughtful prompts. Page 14 provides a generous amount of space to identify three areas where you feel dependent on others and reflect on how that dependency impacts your life. It also includes room to list practical steps you can take to become more self-reliant. I haven’t completed this activity yet, but I’m looking forward to filling it out and reflecting over my morning coffee. The opposite page also focuses on independence, but with a more emotional twist. It’s another great activity for diving deeper—these exercises really help me focus on myself and what I need.

The next activity is one I’ve seen before and really enjoy: “Goal Setting.” It features a great layout with space to write down a goal, the target completion date, how you’ll achieve it, why it’s important, and the steps to get there. When a goal is laid out this way, I find it much easier to follow through—it forces you to focus on each step and the overall process. Now, I just need to get my butt into gear! On the opposite page, there's a beautiful poem titled "Promise Yourself." This inspiring piece by Christian D. Larson captures the essence of self-growth and is so positive and uplifting!

The next page features a beautiful bouquet coloring design. While I haven’t had much time to color, I did pull out a gold marker pen and had a lot of fun filling in some of the petals! On the opposite page, there's an Acrostic Poem activity. It gives you space to create your own poem using the word "Independence." I haven’t finished mine yet, but I’ve been adding a word or two each day and really enjoying the positive thoughts as part of my morning coffee sesh.

Every Silk + Sonder journal comes with a recipe, and this month’s featured dish included ingredients I didn’t have on hand—which is usually the case with these recipes. If you ended up having the ingredients, how did the Cilantro Lime Chicken turn out? Let me know if you tried it! On the opposite page, there’s a “Connect with Yourself” activity, where you write love letters to your mind, body, and heart. While I didn’t write full letters, I did enjoy jotting down some gentle reminders to revisit throughout the month.

Blank sheets are always helpful and a great place to do some long division, write notes, and jot down addresses!

Each month, we get some kind of mind puzzle, and this time it was a word search. I enjoy these and really appreciated the level of difficulty—it wasn’t too hard, but not too easy either, which gave my brain a nice little workout. I even think I figured out the answer to this month’s riddle! Woo hoo!!! On the opposite page is an expense tracker. While it’s a great feature, I don’t personally use it since I track my expenses in a Google Doc. As always—use this journal in whatever way works best for you!

I love the fact that this journal always starts on a Monday, even if that means it starts the month prior. Here you can see Monday is the 30th of June, and I am ready to take on the week. As far as this journal as a whole goes, I tend to put most of my time into these calendar pages. With sections for meal plans, to-dos, habits and activities, shopping lists, and specific day sections, I write everything here. It keeps me on schedule for each day and feeling accomplished, and there is NOTHING more satisfying than crossing out an item on my list. I also appreciate the extras these sheets have - while I sometimes don't fill out how I want to feel each week, this week I found it helpful to write it down and pray over it. This journal is just so darn helpful!!

Tidying up with one last quote, the dictionary definition of "Sonder," and the back cover, that's all there is to it. I have come to find that a key part of my day is when I sit and fill out my planner with my cup of coffee. This quiet time happens before the kids are awake, and kicks my day off to a good start before I start my school day. It is extremely important for me to keep a consistent schedule for managing my anxiety and creating much more positive life, and this journal definitely is a big help in that.

The Verdict

I hate how fast summer flies, but the memories we have already made are unforgettable! This past month was a little more chaotic than I was expecting, and I am ready to settle into July. Though I'm not working, our baseball schedule is chaotic and Silk + Sonder has become a necessity and without this planner, I'd definitely be lost (as would my husband!) I continue to be impressed with this subscription, and can't wait to see what's in store for August.

I typically tend to allocate about 15-20 minutes a day to this journal and flip from front to back reflecting, adding to, and processing what I have previously written. By the end of the month, my brain feels much more organized and stable. The beauty of this planner is remarkable, and the packable size means I can tote it around in my purse. Being extremely impressed with all aspects, I am really looking forward to discovering more about myself, all while staying organized and offering myself a little daily quiet time and important self-care.
