TokyoTreat is a monthly subscription box filled with candy and other tasty snacks that ship directly from Japan. Savory, sweet, salty—all the flavors given to you with authentic products you would find in a convenience store in Japan.

TokyoTreat ships monthly and includes full size premium products. With 12-17 treats in each box, they hit all of the flavor stops! More information about the snacks included can be found here.

This review is of the Premium Box which costs $37.50 a month + shipping.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

June is almost here, and I’ve got just nine more days of school left! One of the best parts of my job is having the summer off to spend with my kids—and with so many fun plans in the works, I’ve already started making a list. These last couple of weeks can feel like they drag on forever, but this month’s June TokyoTreat box brought a much-needed burst of excitement to help speed things along. Packed with fifteen unique snacks straight from Japan, this fun-filled box was such a treat to open! With a bit of TokyoTreat experience under my belt, I can confidently say it’s one of the most exciting subscription boxes I’ve ever unboxed. I’m definitely a fan! Keep reading to see what delicious discoveries were inside.

What's Inside the Box

To welcome us to TokyoTreat, we first received a cute polaroid type picture with a note from Ayumi, the TokyoTreat CEO. A sweet addition, I am already feeling like family! ❤️

Along with more than a dozen tasty snacks, Tokyo Treat also includes a colorful magazine packed with snack information, cultural information, trivia, facts, and contests! While exact nutritional information isn't shared, (it is on the package, but unless you know how to read Japanese, you're probably out of luck), the pamphlet does include if a food contains a common allergen, what it might contain traces of, and if it is suitable for vegetarians. A great summary of this month's box, my boys loved reading through this guide!

Matcha Chocolate KitKats - Retail Value $5.99

We’re big KitKat fans in our house, but this month’s Matcha version was a bit too earthy for my kids’ taste. As an adult, I enjoy matcha tea, and I found the chocolate-matcha pairing to be a refreshing change of pace—but the kids just weren’t sold on it. As you can see in the photo, our 90-degree weather caused them to melt a bit during transit, but thankfully, the flavor was still intact! Overall, it was a fun and unique flavor to try. I personally enjoyed them, but the kids are definitely hoping for something a little sweeter next time!

Umaibo Cheese Stick

Growing up, cheese puffs were a staple in our home. They were smaller in size, but the flavor was remarkably similar to this larger stick version we received. Although it was a bit crumbly, the taste was absolutely perfect—and the kids loved it. Both of my boys, along with my husband, are crossing their fingers that we’ll get another one in a future box!

Crunchy Chocolate Almonds

Once again, the recent heat took a bit of a toll—this time on the chocolate-covered almonds—but thankfully, the taste was still 100% fantastic! Similar to a Hershey’s bar with almonds, this snack was absolutely delicious in every way. Our family shared it by breaking off pieces, and everyone was completely satisfied. We’d definitely be happy to see these show up in a future box!

Grape & Muscat Gummies

Gummies are definitely one of my kids’ favorite treats, and this ring-shaped version was a huge hit! Featuring grape and muscat flavors, they tasted more like real grape juice than the artificial grape flavor you often get. The fun green and purple colors added extra flair, and they were gobbled up in no time—right before my eyes. Yummy!

Butter Soy Sauce Potato Sticks

The Butter Soy Sauce Potato Sticks were an instant hit in our house! They have a bold, buttery flavor with just the right touch of salty soy that makes them totally addictive. Shaped like mini French fries, they’re both fun to eat and full of flavor. Both my kids and I couldn’t get enough of them. We’d absolutely love to see these in another box!

Mini Melon Pan Biscuits

The Mini Melon Pan Biscuits were a pleasantly surprising treat! With a unique combination of sweet melon flavor and a light vanilla glaze, they offer a fun twist on a classic biscuit. The outside has a gentle crunch, while the inside stays soft and airy. At first, the melon flavor seemed a bit unusual, but it quickly grew on us. The bite-sized pieces made them easy to snack on, and they disappeared faster than expected. Overall, they’re a fun and tasty treat!

Kimchi Kakipi

The next treat we tried, Kimchi Kakipi, ended up being my personal favorite. This mix of rice crackers and peanuts delivers a bold kimchi kick with just the right amount of garlicky goodness. It’s savory, flavorful, and seriously addictive—I’m obsessed. I’ll definitely be searching for these online because I need more! If you’re a fan of bold, savory snacks, this one’s a must-try.

Bourbon Chocolate Sandwich Cookies

The Bourbon Chocolate Sandwich Cookies are small, delightful, and full of rich flavor. The soft, fluffy cookies are perfectly paired with a smooth bourbon chocolate filling that offers a deeper, more refined taste than regular chocolate. Their charming packaging makes them even more enjoyable to open and share. This sweet treat is definitely a standout!

Ginshari Rice Ball Cracker

The next item we received was a Ginshari Rice Ball Cracker. Although it arrived a bit broken, it was still delicious and full of flavor. With a savory soy sauce taste, it struck a nice balance between salty and satisfying. It made for a simple yet enjoyable little treat!

Wasabi Potato Crisps

The Wasabi Potato Crisps were a little crumbly, but still packed with flavor. The spicy wasabi punch gave them a fiery kick, exactly what I crave in a snack. The addition of a sweet honey glaze balanced out the heat perfectly. Overall, these crisps were absolutely delicious and hit the spot!

Sour Paper Candy Apple

The Sour Paper Candy Apple was a big hit with the kids! It’s long, chewy, and offers a perfect blend of sweetness with a tangy sour apple kick. The fruity flavor was a fun twist on a classic fruit roll-up, and the extra sugar coating made it even more enjoyable. My kids couldn’t get enough of it and loved every bite. It’s definitely a snack that will be requested again!

Maruchan Kitsune Udon

The Maruchan Kitsune Udon was a quick and satisfying lunch option. Simply add hot water and microwave for three minutes, and you’re good to go. The tuna and kelp broth was flavorful, and the silky noodles made the dish incredibly comforting. It was a delicious and easy meal, perfect for busy days!

Baumkuchen Earl Grey Cake

The Baumkuchen Earl Grey Cake has a soft and moist texture with an earthy tea flavor that makes it unique. The taste is intriguing, but it wasn’t quite to my liking—though it wasn’t bad, it definitely wasn’t my favorite. The kids, unfortunately, didn’t enjoy it at all. If you’re a fan of Earl Grey tea, you might appreciate the flavor, but it’s definitely an acquired taste. Overall, it’s an interesting cake, but not one I’d reach for again.

Corn Puff Stick

The next item we received was a corn puff stick, and it was absolutely delicious! The savory, salty, and slightly spicy flavor combination was spot on. It had the perfect balance of seasoning that made it both satisfying and tasty. I’d definitely enjoy receiving another one of these in the future!

Retro Konpeito

The Retro Konpeito comes in the cutest packaging, making it a fun treat to open. Inside, you’ll find small, floral-shaped sugar candies that are as sweet as they are delightful. Each bite is a sugary burst of flavor that’s simple yet satisfying, all while being absolutely adorable.

The Verdict

As you may know, I have a lot of experience reviewing snack boxes, and after more than a few months of receiving TokyoTreat, I can honestly say this is my favorite snack box of all time. After browsing through the pamphlet, tasting all of the snacks, and checking out the extra online offers, I am beyond impressed with this subscription. This month's curation was rounded out pretty well with a mix of sweet and savory snacks and we loved everything, especially the Kimchi Kakipi! Overall, we were again very impressed with the variety and the best packaging we've ever experienced! We're already looking forward to July's box, and the fact that summer is almost here!!!
