Inside The Nomadik Quarterly "Ready to Roam"

Selk Puffy Blanket - Retail Price $99

This blanket from Selk'bag is so dynamic, I'm not sure which feature I like most. The blanket measures 50 by 70 inches, stuffs down to about the size of a typical sleeping bag, and weighs in at just over 2 pounds. But the fun doesn't just stop at a simple blanket. There are snap buttons to form the item into "Cape Mode." Go hands-free and wear the blanket while you set up your tent, go for a walk, or just have a drink at the campsite. When it's time for bed, the blanket stuffs into a pillow thanks to a built-in zippered pouch. One side, super soft and warm for when it's cold. The other side is slick and cool for when it's hot outside. When you are using it as a pillow, it measures 15 by 15 by 4 inches. There is even a zippered cell phone pocket. Every part – down to the zipper pull – is made from 100% post-consumer recycled materials. When you get home, simply throw it into the washing machine, hang dry, and it's ready to use  again. I am very excited about this items and the many parts it will play on my next camping trip.

MPOWERD Solar String 18' Warm White - Retail Price $33

Every time I think Luci can't make another compact light that I'd be interested in, they go and do just that. Lights from Luci are a darling to outdoor subscription boxes. I have many and they are all stationed at different parts of my house or ready for a campout. This one is interesting, because it is a string of lights. The Luci Color String Lights emitting 6 colors (violet, turquoise, green, orange, pink, white) via 20 multi-color LEDs across an 18 ft. cord and provides up to 15 hours of light on a single charge. In addition to the solar option, there are also a USB-A and USB-C port, for when you have the option to plug in. You can also use the this to charge other devices such as your phone.

FixNZip Tent Repair Kit - Retail Price $30

Think of this as first-aid for your tent. The FixATent Repair Kit covers most everything you need to save your tent camping adventure, whether you're at home or in the field. The kit includes: Two FixATent tent pole splints (a 1/2-inch for most 1-3 person tents and a 5/8-inch for most 2-4 person tents), a 10 foot roll duct tape for use with the splints (stand alone use), two self-adhesive screen patches (4 x 4" each), and a 2-inch carabiner. For me, this is one of those things you don't think about until you need it. So it's a nice little kit to have around.

Note: The kit that is linked has some additional items, like a zipper and cord.

TOUGHBOX SE56 Micro EDC Drybox - Retail Price $30

The Evergreen 56 from ToughBox is a medium-sized, compact micro-case, and the perfect organizational tackle box. The solid 100% polycarbonate construction provides long-lasting durability and reliability for all your adventures. The website calls it "virtually indestructible." It's rigorously tested to be rustproof, IP67 waterproof, dustproof, and impact resistant. Easily fitting into a hiking backpack, on a kayak, or anywhere you want to keep things safe and dry like camping or the beach. It's great for smaller items such as cameras, hard drives, wallet, phone, and keys. The micro-case latches shut tightly, which has a twist lock to prevent accidental opening. For added security, the twist lock itself can be locked further with a key, which they include two of. The external measurements are 9.5" x 5.8" x 2.8". It weighs 1.31 lbs. and is buoyant up to 3 lbs. Made in the USA.

TOUGHBOX Micro Clip Bracket - Retail Price $12

In addition to the ToughBox, Nomadik has included a mountable bracket for the item. It installs easily with four screws to give the box a home base. The box snaps in and out quickly, but securely. This could be installed in a vehicle, on a kayak, or just in your house. I love this option, even if I don't have an idea of where to put mine yet.

Note: Nomad's website said there would also be a "tube mount" part of this item, but there was none. I did some sleuthing and saw some other people didn't receive one as well. So it must have been a last minute decision/issue that kept it out of the box. I don't think it's something I'd use anyway, but it's strange that it was listed but not included.

The Verdict

I'm on the fence with this installment of Nomadik. A couple of great items with a few so-so ones.

The blanket is awesome. I can use it so many places in addition to camping. It's versatile, warm, and easy. I love the ToughBox and bracket. No notes, except what is going on with the missing tube mount kit? The string of lights is cool, but I'm not sure when I'd use them. Ultimately, I think I'd rather just have a stand-alone light. The Fix-a-tent kit is smart, but there is something about getting an item that you hope you never use that makes it feel like you aren't getting your money's worth. Whereas the other items are something I can use even when I'm not camping. Ultimately, I liked this box, but I would have liked to see another item to make it great.

To Wrap Up

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. More from Nomadik:

Order by the 15th, your first shipment will be processed on the 16th and ship in 2-3 days. Otherwise, it’ll get processed and ship by the 15th of next month.

Value Breakdown: This box clocks in at around $205. That is right at the promised $200+ value and $50 more than the cost of the subscription ($149.99, shipping is free). While it delivers on the promise, it is actually on the low side of value. That is also considering the missing tube mount and the fact that the fix-a-tent kit is missing a few of the items from the kit I linked to. I would have liked to see another $20-$30 item to get the value closer to past boxes.
