What I Got This Month

Fact: I'm a foodie! And I don't simply like cheese and charcuterie—I love them.

So imagine my delight when I got the chance to try out AppyHour. My box included a curated lineup of artisan cheeses, fresh charcuterie, and accompaniments.

Here's what I got in my first box!

Marinated Sheep & Goat Cheese

Ond word? Rich! This was definitely a fun (and powerful) way to start out this month's box.

This cheese tastes very similar to feta, but is much stronger IMO. I thought the olive oil and herbs helped soften its small bite and create a smoother delicacy. I added some of this cheese on top of some grilled chicken and sautéed spinach—and it did not disappoint.

Basil Pesto Gouda

Historically, I've not been a major fan of Gouda. This Gouda, however, may have converted me.

It was very creamy, and I found it easy to eat multiple bites in one sitting (unlike other goudas I've tried). Overall, it was incredibly smooth and semi-firm. It paired well with organic berries and nuts.

Prairie Breeze

Another delicious pick! It was so soft to the touch that it crumbled upon cutting and presented a sweet, nutty flavor.

I couldn't eat a lot of this cheese in one sitting due to its richness, but I really enjoyed a few bites here and there throughout the day.

Mahón Menorca

This was my first time ever trying out Mahón, which was cool! Another semi-firm cheese that was rich and somewhat salty.

My honest thoughts? It was incredible! Definitely a cheese that you share with others and serve in smaller portions, though.

Dried Apricots

Great accompaniment to throw in this mix. I thought it paired best with Mahón Menorca and Prairie Breeze.

I also fed them to my toddlers while capturing content to keep them fixated on anything else but the camera. 🤭 It worked for a bit...

Sweet & Smoky Almonds

I'm usually not a fan of smoked sides, but these were quite savory and paired well with most of the items from the box, especially the richer cheeses and meats.

Rosemary & Olive Oil Organic Sourdough Flatbread Bites

Definitely a cracker that needs to be eaten with toppings. While they weren't the most appetizing crackers on their own, I did enjoy eating them alongside small portions of the Marinated Sheep & Goat Cheese.

Raspberry Mostarda

This jam just wasn't for me.

I imagined this being sweet, but honestly, the mustard and red pepper ruined it for me (I know, I know: hence the name).

French Onion with Rosemary Jam

Same as above: Hard pass!

I didn't find it savory or mouthwatering like it was described.

Red Wine Salami

Yum! This salami was seasoned with red wine, garlic, and cracked pepper. Both the kids and I chowed down and savord every single slice.

The taste was buttery overall, but has some distinct tastes throughout

Lonza

If you're going for a traditional meat to include in a charcuterie board, this is it. I loved this it was sourced from pasture-raised pork—you could really taste the difference in the fatty areas!

The meat had a subtle sweetness and a delicate texture. Simply delicious.

Jamón Serrano

Compared to standard prosciutto, this meat was firmer, leaner, yet more intense in flavor. I liked the previous selection a bit better since it was milder, but this meat was still quite good (just a tad chewy).

The Verdict

The kids and I agree: AppyHour is awesome! We loved the mix of cheeses, meats, and accompaniments we received this month.

Our favorite items were:

  • Lonza
  • Red Wine Salami
  • Prairie Breeze
  • Basil Pesto Gouda

We can't wait to try out another box soon! Until then, make sure to catch up on my latest reviews here.
