Birchbox Review April 2025

Birchbox

Birchbox is a monthly subscription box that sends samples (and sometimes full sizes) of new and exciting beauty products from top brands. Despite being out of the game for a minute, the subscription is back! Birchbox is one of the original beauty subscription boxes and is a great way to discover new makeup, hair care, and skincare products (four to six items every month) without breaking the bank.

This is one of our top recommendations if you are looking for a subscription box — the value and sample sizes are amazing. Just like Ipsy, Birchbox sends out many different variations of their bag each month — so my review is just one of the bag variations you might receive!

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes).

First Impressions

This month's delivery came with no info card, just the items I chose ready and waiting for me.

What's Inside

Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Moisture Leave-In Conditioner, 25 ml - Retail Value $11.00

After trying and liking the Alterna shampoo and conditioner samples last month, I thought I'd give their leave-in conditioner a try. Just as with the shampoo and conditioner, the scent reminds me of something you'd experience in a salon, though I can't quite put my finger on exactly how to describe it. I see from reviews that it's a divisive scent—and indeed it is strong, so if you're sensitive to fragrance, this one might not be for you.

Arrow Aluminum-Free Deodorant, 1.52 oz - Retail Value $16.00

If anyone remembers my natural deodorant saga of 2020, I landed on Megababe Rosy Pits as my favorite and have been using it since, occasionally sandwiching l'Occitane's Verbena cream deodorant in because it's just so lovely. But my husband is not loyal to a deodorant brand, and when he runs out he's still in the habit of asking if I have any natural deodorants stashed away, so I chose this for him. It takes time to know if a deodorant works for someone, so I can't speak to its efficacy yet, but I wore it on a mild day and had no complaints. The fresh, citrusy scent is pleasant.

Arrow Color-Enhancing Lip Balm, 0.14 oz - Retail Value $15.00

A friend recently pointed out that she feels the natural pigment is fading from her lips, a sign of aging that she isn't very fond of. I hadn't noticed, but once she said something, I realized the same might be happening for me. In a wink from the universe, this color-enhancing lip balm was presented as a choice in this box. The balm itself doesn't contain color, and is a smooth application with a minty feel. I applied it a couple of hours ago, and as I sit here, I can still feel the silky moisture when I rub my lips together. I'll have to send a tube to my friend and see if it works for her. I see that Naomi also chose this lip balm in July, and she liked it as much as I did!

Proenza Schouler Arizona Eau de Parfum Intense, 0.04 fl oz - Estimated Value $5.00

This concentrated perfume really took me by surprise! When I first spritz, a bright a fruity scent jumps out, but as it lands on the skin, a rich a vintage-y aroma comes forth. I'm undecided on whether I like this perfume for myself; for those who love it I do think the little bottle will go a long way. Also, because perfume reviewers have amazing noses and are so fun to journey with, I thought I'd show you this Reddit review I found of this scent.

Juara Candlenut Body Creme, 10 ml - Estimated Value $12.00

I inadvertently went in a lot of different directions with the scents contained in my Birchbox this month. Candlenut is a new one to me, but it's definitely nutty, almost in the way that cocoa butter is, but instead of a chocolatey vibe it has hints of florals. This body creme is satiny and absorbent, and it's not at all greasy. My knuckles and elbows have been really dry lately, and this feels like the perfect stuff for targeting those craggy areas.

Birchbox Compact Styler Hairbrush - Retail Value $18.00

There's something about the shape of this brush that just hits right. Its birch wood body fits nicely in the palm, its cushion is sturdy, and the bristles are stiff. It works well for my fine, thin hair and I'll definitely toss this one in my pool bag.

The Verdict

Last month my Birchbox was cosmetics-heavy, and this month the pendulum has swung around to the skincare realm. I'm really happy with all my selections! The Birchbox-exlusive arrow products (the deodorant and color-enhancing lip balm) are my favorites, but I'm also keen on the body creme and hair brush. The leave-in conditioner will be great for travel, and while I'm not sure yet about the eau de parfum, it's always fun to try something new.
