BoxyCharm by Ipsy is a $30 monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. They always provide a great value compared to the cost of the box and include 5 beauty items that include nail care, skincare, makeup, haircare, fragrance, and more. (At least 4 of those items will be full-sized). If you are a makeup or skincare addict – we recommend this box!

FYI: Subscription update!

Glam Bag Plus and BoxyCharm Base will now be called BoxyCharm. It’s the same great membership and price - now all under the new BoxyCharm name and extra perks. BoxyCharm members (all previous Glam Bag Plus and BoxyCharm Base subscribers) will still get 5 full-sized beauty products worth up to $200 personalized for them, and now they’ll get to choose 3 of their items! Plus, they’re guaranteed 2 Power Pick —superstar products or brands handpicked by our team of experts— in their 5-product assortment. By removing the drawstring Glam Bag Plus, we can invest in better beauty products.

First Impressions

Everything arrived packed neatly in the pink BoxyCharm by Ipsy box.

Now, on to the items!

LAURA GELLER Made To Multi-Task – Estimated Retail Value $36

It seems that this palette is discontinued because I cannot find it on the Laura Geller site at all. So my pricing is based off of another 3 shade palette. I am bummed to see that they don't have this exact palette because it is amazing! The colors are so bold that a little really goes a long way. It blends in nicely, allowing you to really build the color. This is great for cheeks, but it looks beautiful on lips as well. I love having the highlighter in there, so I can add my cheeks and splash some highlight quickly on the go. This has been my go-to blush since I got this!

V KOSMETIK Liquid Brow Gel Fixx, 0.14 oz - Retail Value $20

I was getting my brows colored and laminated for almost 2 years. Then, I just stopped having them done, and have been maintaining them at home. Laminating became more work than it was worth (my husband hated my brows like this) and it was expensive.

That said, I still rely on brow gel since my brows are curly and have a mind of their own. This is great because it is water resistent, plus it doesn't feel thick or sticky. The smaller brush fibers give brows structure while taming and filling in. This is a great product to have on hand for every day use, so I can still get a bold brow without all of the extra work in the spa.

ELOISE BEAUTY Ultra Glow Lip Oil, 6.5 mL – Retail Value $30, currently sold out

This is another product that doesn't seem to be on the company's site anymore. I was a little nervous when I saw this oil, but I was really excited when it went on pretty clear. Unlike a gloss, this wasn't sticky and it left my lips feeling fantastic! I've been using this in the morning and at night to keep my lips extra hydrated. I even used it over a matte lipstick that was just dry and clumping to my lips.

This blend is made with vitamin E to keep your lips smooth and hydrated all day long.

GROWN ALCHEMIST Skin Renewal Day Cream, 65 mL – Retail Value $62

I am really enjoying this day cream so far! It is lightweight so it pairs really well with my other skincare products and my makeup. It is made with Niacinamide, Echinacea and Reishi extract to protect your skin barrier and prevent premature skin aging. Plus, it is made with Moringa peptides to help purify and protect from particle pollution while Reishi and Green Tea Extracts provide nourishing antioxidant and conditioning benefits.

My skin is so dry so I always get a little nervous trying new moisturizers. I am really happy to report that my skin is reacting well to this and it is keeping my hydrated throughout the whole day!

ACE BEAUTE Mystic Romance Palette – Retail Value $38.99, currently sold out

This is another product that is out of stock. What a bummer! I loved the colors in this palette. They are so moody and romantic, I was really excited to play around with them. While the colors are beautiful, the shadows sort of just sit on my skin wherever I start. Blending is basically impossible so I ended up with weird dark spots, and way more eye makeup than I would like. I think I might need to play around with the palette and try other brushes, but overall this is not something I would reach for every day since it is not super easy to use.

Verdict

This BoxyCharm by Ipsy was sort of flat for me. The biggest thing that I noticed was that a lot of products this month are no longer on the company's website, or they are showing as out of stock. Are some of these products discontinued? While I love getting new makeup, this felt like a big makeup-focused curation, but nothing that really felt exciting. The blush palette is pretty amazing, but I was bummed to see that the brand doesn't have anything like it online anymore. The eyeshadow is just super tricky to blend, which I can't stand and is really frustrating first thing in the morning. The day cream is probably the big winner for me and I love that it is a full-size bottle.

Overall, I felt that this box lacked a little wow factor! And please, no more products that aren't for sale anymore.

In the section VALUE BREAKDOWN it says each product was worth an average of $6. How does that come up to a $186.00?

It feels a little odd that so many of the products are no longer available. It would be one thing if they said they were made for Ipsy, but otherwise you wonder if they are old stock they are trying to get rid of.
