Nomadik is a lifestyle subscription box for outdoor lovers. Every month, they send 3-5 items for outdoor adventures including gear, snacks, and multi-use items for $34.99 + shipping. They promise a $60 average retail value.  First-time subscribers will choose their first box. Future gear and kit themes are based on a variety of factors, such as: seasonality, available inventory from brand partners, interests, etc. But rest assured, the value, quality, and quantity of the items in all variations of the kits are comparable each month. You can skip a month, cancel, or reactivate your account easily.

There is also a quarterly version of this subscription. It costs $150 four times a year and promises a $200+ value for each installment.

This box was sent to us at no cost to review. (Check out our review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

Nomadik's tried and true monthly box is always a welcome sight. I like that you can immediately tell this is an outdoor box. Every box comes with a small tri-fold with information about the items and some other info or deals. There is also always a neat Nomadik sticker.

Inside The Nomadik "Wilderness Warmth" Box

Survival Frog Pocket Blanket - Retail Price $25

This multi-use blanket from Survival Frog is so useful and takes up so little space that you'll be taking it everywhere. The blanket measures 5-1/2 by 4-1/2 feet, but packs down into a 5 x 4-inch stuff sack and weighs only 5-1/2 oz. The site says it fits two people comfortably, but can fit up to four people. Not sure about the latter, unless you are standing under it like a rain tarp. This blanket is waterproof, puncture-resistant, tear-resistant, and sand/dirt-proof. It has several uses, such as picnic blanket, camping mat, tent rainfly, staying dry on wet grass, sandy beaches, festivals/concerts, or an emergency survival tarp. The only physical feature is corner pockets that can be filled with sand or stones to keep the blanket from flying away in windy conditions. This is one of the more useful things I've received from this subscription. I'm not sure if I'm going to throw it in my car or in my pack. Maybe I'll just buy a second one.

Puffin Beverage Bag - Retail Price $23

I usually think "drink wear" is a bit of a gimmick. If you have to dress your drink up to keep it from getting cold, you're not drinking fast enough. Gimmick aside, this sleeping bag beverage holder from Puffin is actually pretty hefty. Real reflective liner, velcro enclosure and zipper, and rubberized base to sit flat. The top can either cover your drink or fold down. This one has a little pocket in the back that could maybe hold a small lighter, matches, or whatever you can imagine. It also comes with a carabiner, which doubles as a bottle opener. I actually really like this. It looks and feels great. However, I couldn't help but think that time of year you need to keep your drinks cold is in the summer, when a heavy duty sleeping bag looks out of place. During the winter, you don't need a beverage bag. But maybe I'm overthinking it.

Noso Patches Snow Camo Patch - Retail Price $10

This 2-1/2 inch X patch from Noso is weather resistant, waterproof, and a tough permanent adhesive. The polyester patch easy to apply: just clean the surface then peel and stick. The snow camo design will look good on your winter coat, but would work on an array of gear. Like most stickers, the trick is knowing what situation is worthy of such a cool adhesive.

Awake Caffeinated Chocolate Bites - Estimated Price $1.40

Finally an edible add-in that is chocolate instead of electrolyte powder. These small chocolate bars from Awake are not only tasty, but will give you a jolt. Each bar packs as much caffeine as a half cup of coffee. While I personally prefer a cup of joe, it's hard to beat a tasty treat that will give you the same energy and not fill you up.

Note: There are many amounts and flavors to buy – even a sugar-free option. A pack of caramels are $35 for 50 bites, which the site says comes to about $0.70 a piece.

The Verdict

This was one of my favorite installments of Nomadik. I just love functional, useful things. The blanket is so useful and compact. I love that it's water, sand, and dirt-proof. It's just one of those things that you need more than you think. Unlike the blanket, the beverage bag seems to be something you THINK you're going to use a lot, only to use it once for the laugh. I really do like it, but I think it may be something I'll gift to a friend. The patch is cool, and I'm looking for right opportunity to use it. And the caffeinated chocolate bites were easily the best foodie item I've had from this sub. Overall, a very positive installment. Keep them coming, Nomadik.

To Wrap Up

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Your first box will be your choice. More from Nomadik:

Just sign up, fill out your profile, and pick your first theme. Future boxes are curated based on: your profile, seasonality and product surveys. If you order by the 15th, your monthly box ships by the 24th of this month. Otherwise it will ship by the 24th of next month. Future shipments (after the first shipment) will ship by the 24th. When you sign up, you'll be charged and your subscription will automatically renew on the 4th of your renewal month. You'll be charged 1 time per month and you'll get 1 box per month.

Value Breakdown: At $40 ($34.99 + $4.99 shipping to PA) for this box, each of the 4 items has an average cost of $10. This box has a retail value of around $70, more than the promised value of $60.00. This is not a complaint, but an observation: the cute, singular-use beverage bag cost almost as much as the nice, multi-use blanket.
