BREO BOX Review Winter 2023

Winter is here, and so is this month's BREO Box! With one quarter of this subscription under my belt, I was very excited to see what the winter version of this box could contain. Because I couldn't resist, I did look up the first two spoilers, but had no idea what to expect from the other items. This quarter encompassed "Winter-Proofing Your Days" and really did help elevate my cozy winter days and nights. Read below to see what was included.

Packaged similar to the Fall 2023 Box, the winter version also included two substantial cardboard boxes and a cloth sack. All items arrived safely in this packaging, and I couldn't wait to dig in! On a side note - these cardboard boxes were perfect for wrapping up Christmas gifts, and the bags have proven useful for hauling home dirty laundry from family vacations!

Welcome Card

To introduce this season's box, we received a welcome card that features a QR code linking us to the winter 2023 catalog. There is also a short description as to the theme of this month's box and how it was curated for winter-proofing your days. While I'm used to printed content cards containing all item info, I do have to say, I appreciated the very detailed information the website provided, along with instructional videos, and retail values.

Dio Node Airplay Speaker - Retail Value $90 (On Sale for $74.99)

Dio Node is a Wi-Fi multi-room speaker that offers a high-quality audio experience. This speaker guarantees privacy, is multi-user friendly, and operates without an app. With the high retail value, I was really excited to try out this speaker. I have an iPhone 11 Pro that operates using iOS 16.6.1, which the instructions say it will set up with. When I tried pairing, it wouldn't work showing an error code. I hopped on their website where they suggested reaching out for support, and they sent me some troubleshooting advice. With that were instructions to change settings on our router, which I am not tech savvy enough to figure out. I was able to set this up on another site's Wi-Fi at a different location, but was frustrated with the obstacles I faced at home. Right now, this will only work with devices using iOS, which will be an issue for those with Android phones. Overall, I was really impressed with the sound, but the fact that it won't work for all subscribers seems like a little bit of a miss.

Shelf-Mate Wall Outlet Shelf - Retail Value $15

The next item we received was a wall outlet shelf. This plastic shelf mounts onto two types of outlets and contains multiple pieces of hardware to fit each scenario. It features a strong platform that holds up to 10 pounds, with a built in hole for cords to thread through the top for neatness. While it may not be the most exciting inclusion, it is one that I was excited to receive to help organize my husband's charging area. Our phones fit well on top and keep them off our counter top and away from spills, which is definitely handy.

Espro Bloom Brew - Retail Value $35

Elevate your coffee with this beautiful steel Bloom Pour Over Brewer, designed to enhance your brewing experience at home or while traveling!

Beautiful, easy to measure, paper filter compatible, and sleek - this system is fantastic for brewing one cup at a time in a manual fashion. With 1,502 holes, this filtration system ensures even water distribution for a fuller-bodied brew. Easy to measure with built-in dots, you can make a single cup or enough to share. Easy to use and functional, this is great for me, as I usually only drink one cup of coffee at a time. It truly made a difference in flavor! Also, it was nice to know I don't need to use the included filters. Overall, this was a great inclusion for the winter box, and did encompass the theme well.

Subliminal NanoFoamer V2 - Retail Value $39

Transform your coffee experience at home into cafe quality using this NanoFoamer V2. Using advanced foaming technology, this tool produces fine and rich microfilm, perfect for latte art creations right in your very own kitchen. Featuring two screens and a wall hanging case, this tool is waterproof and easy to clean.

Honestly, I have never been to a barista that has created art in my coffee. That being said, I loved the foam that this NanoFoamer created in my home-brewed coffee. I use creamer and a little bit of heavy whipping cream each morning, and the froth this created was extra tasty. I did have to add two AA batteries to this tool, but it was so worth it! When it came out as a spoiler, I wasn't convinced. But now that I've tried it, I won't be drinking a cup without it! While I haven't figured out how to create "art" with it yet, it has done a fantastic job giving me a delicious frothing cup that truly aligns with the "winter-proofing your days" theme of this box.

Power To Go LED Headlamp - Retail Value $35

With the short winter days, our outdoor activities usually get cut short, but now they don't have to! With its duel LED strip design, this headlamp provides a surge of lumens for intense brightness and a sweeping 230 degree beam. With six lighting modes, and a motion sensor, it is great for multiple situations. With hours of battery life, a plug in cord, and comfortable band, this is really the only headlamp you need.

As avid outdoors people, we have quite the stash of headlamps. That being said, this is the most comfortable one we now own, as well as the brightest! With an extendable band, this works on both kids and adults. It doesn't feel bulky, and doesn't mess up the top of your hair like many headlamps do, but provides more lumens, and reflects. This Power to Go version will now replace my other headlamp for camping, and in the car. We use these lamps frequently, so it was a great fit for my family, and a great addition to this box.

Value – Was This Box Worth It?

I had really high hopes for this season's BREO Box, and for the most part, they delivered. After opening all of the items and trying them with my family, I felt the quality was there, as was the curation. The Dio Node speaker was the item with the highest value, and while it eventually worked for me as an Apple user, can see where people will be frustrated with its inclusion if they run Android products, or can't figure out how to troubleshoot their router. As an avid coffee drinker, I really enjoyed the coffee products. The headlamp and shelf were also functional and helpful items that I didn't know I needed until I received them in this box. Overall, I was satisfied with this season's curation and am already looking forward to the Spring BREO Box. What did you think of the winter version?

The Cost: $159 per quarter + free shipping to the contiguous US.

Value Breakdown: The total value of the box is $199 (with the Dio Node being on sale), despite costing $159. That's a $40 savings!

“What we’re talking about today” doesn’t work for me any more; I get a 404 Error no matter which I click on. To see comments, I have to go to the specific review; it works from there.

yep. It stopped working a few weeks ago.
Since there’s not much going on here these days I usually just look to see “new comments’ which I’d just click on the talking about today section and it’d pop me right to the correct post. Now you have to find that specific post to see comments.
If the mission is to get even less people to use this site, they’re doing awesome.
I miss Liz.

This is disappointing, and it’s very short-sighted to include a speaker that’s only compatible with Apple products. It’s the hero product, what were they thinking?? Never again!

Becca

Thank you for commenting, Nurse! I too was surprised that they included the highest value item to be not compatible with all devices. Ekk. I really hope they re-think that for the future because that could affect a lot of subscribers.

I was pretty underwhelmed by this box. I don’t need a wireless speaker, I’m not a home coffee drinker, and I have a flashlight on my Keychain, so I felt like I spent $160 for nothing this month. I’ve already gifted all of the coffee stuff I’ve gotten in the past to my mom and sister. I literally got a pour over thing last season from this box, so I’m not sure why they are doing another one. I think there were coffee beans the season before that. Should we rename this the coffee box?

Becca

Thanks for commenting, Steve. Last quarter we received the tea pot, which coordinates pretty well with the pour over device, so it really has been coffee heavy lately, which is definitely not a good thing if you don’t drink coffee. This is only my second box, so I’m hoping we’ll start to veer in a different direction for spring…

I gifted the speaker to my brpther in law, who always has the latest Apple products. I adore Samsung and could not get the speaker to work.
The coffee products went to my mom, who loved them. I’m not a coffee drinker.
Loved the head light. I’ve purchased maybe a dozen great ones over the years and the retail on this one seems high but it is a solid light. The outlet shelf seems cheap and I’ll pass it along to my 14 year old niece.
Not thrilled for myself overall but I was able to gift a lot away. ( I had already sent all my gifts in the mail as my family lives out of state so these will be in a second box for them. It didn’t save me any money as I had purchased gifts for them but I know they will love them.)

Thanks for commenting Ro! You are so on the ball getting those gifts sent out! I too love that headlamp, and have used it quite a bit since getting it. My youngest son actually asked for the same one on his Christmas list because he’s jealous! lol!
