Ipsy Icon Box is a NEW quarterly upgrade for Ipsy members. It replaces your usual monthly bag in February, May, August, and November and costs $58. This delivery "includes 8 full-size products worth up to $350" and allows subscribers to pick three items.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes).

Everything arrived carefully wrapped in this protective layer. This made me happy because nothing arrived damaged.

This Ipsy Icon collection is filled with some of Pat McGrath's favorite beauty products. She truly is an icon so I'm extremely excited to dive into this one!

The Items

My items arrived in a pink Ipsy box. Let's see what Pat picked for us in this collection!

My mom is a makeup artist, so I knew about Pat McGrath before she really became well-known. She notes that this collection is going to give you the "backstage experience" and to encourage experimenting at home. Count me in!

Let's see what arrived:

DANESSA MYRICKS BEAUTY Dew Wet Balm, 0.32 oz – Retail Value $24

This balm is for your face or body to create a dewy sheen. It does add a little pink color when I use it, but it really isn't enough to be used instead of blush. I've been using it as a highlight on my cheeks and even added some to my chest when I had a strapless dress on recently for a night out. The texture is super lightweight so it drinks right into my skin, leaving me looking absolutely glowing.

I am loving using this balm right now, but I'm actually super excited to use this in the summer. I don't wear nearly as much makeup as I do in the colder months so I can see myself using this balm with my suntan to add a light glow. This really is a staple product that is going to be used every day!

ALAMAR Colorete Concentrate Liquid Blush – Retail Value $20

This is a medium-to-full coverage blush so depending on what shade you are using, a little goes a long way! This shade is a bit too dark for me right now, but it will be the perfect peach tone in the summer. Honestly, I'm not even mad that I can't use this right now because I know that once that summer tan starts I'm going to be really excited to play around with this blush!

The sponge applicator is different from anything I've used. You want to be careful how much you squeeze or shake the tube though, because that is how you control the amount of product. Or in my case you can shake too much and a ton of blush can explode onto your hand. This is formulated with hyaluronic acid so it almost feels like a serum that really drinks and sets into your skin. It also plumps and is made to last you throughout the day. I really can't wait to use this more once the shade matches me a bit better.

Mischo Beauty Setting Spray, 2.71 fl oz. – Retail Value $21

I've never owned a setting spray, which after trying this, seems crazy! This spray is infused with Vitamin E, ginseng root extract, glycerin, and niacinamide. It works to lock in your makeup while adding a bit of hydration. I found that it gives me this dewy glow as well so I will use it throughout the day or if I'm going out at night and want to freshen up a bit. Honestly, I don't know how I've gone this long without my own setting spray, but this bottle is a huge winner for me!

PAT McGRATH LABS MatteTrance Lipstick in Rouge a Levres – Retail Value $12

I LOVE a red lip! This shade looks very similar to the lipstick I wore on my wedding day (long story short, I kept the lipstick but my daughter got into my makeup bag and messed with it so much I had to throw it away), so I was really excited to try it out. Honestly, it is perfection, even though my lines look off since I didn't use it with liner at first.

The lipstick has a matte finish without that drying feeling, and it really goes on creamy and smooth. It doesn't feel dry as it wears since it is infused with oils to help hydrate. The shade is full coverage and you can get the true color with one swipe. With it being the holidays, I am so excited to have such a deep red that will add a festive pop!

Dew of the Gods The Theory Retinol Creme Blend, 1.69 fl oz. – Retail Value $42

I'm going to be honest, any product with retinol in it tends to scare me off a bit, but after reading about this product and looking over reviews I felt confident in giving it a try. While I haven't used it long enough to really say if its working, I'm overall happy with this creme blend.

It's main ingredients are 1% retinol to target wrinkles, hyaluronic acid for moisture, and oat milk to sooth and eliminate redness. The directions say to apply a small amount to your fingertips and apply massaging in an upward motion, and to use it religiously every morning and night. Overall I think it is hydrating and leaving my skin feeling smooth and glowing. I have read that it can take a while to see the impacts of using retinol, so hopefully overtime I will see a bigger difference. I do like the way it makes my skin feel though and how my makeup looks when I apply after using. Let me know in the comments what you think of this product!

SERUMKIND Muscat Clearing Drops, 30 mL - Retail Value $46

My first thought was what is a muscat grape?! According to the website, it means "fruits blessed by a god." Shine muscat grapes are rich in resveratol and vitamins C and K. The directions recommend using this for your morning and night routine, applying a few drops to dry skin and tapping the serum in. It works to improve your skin's overall texture and tone, soothes, and targets acne spots and blemishes.

I have been using this at night and have noticed that it really has improved the overall texture of my skin. It has improved blemishes that I tend to get around that time of the month and has given me an overall smoother feel. While it does seem to be helping with blemishes, it isn't drying my skin out, which I really appreciate. I can't say that this is a product I can't live without, but overall I'm liking what I'm seeing so far in the short time I've used it. What has everyone's experience been with this product? Let me know in the comments!

Too Faced Sun Bunny Radiant Duo Tone Bronzer, 0.28 oz. - Retail Value $36

This bronzer duo is wonderful because you can add the deeper shade to contour and the lighter shade to give you that natural sun kissed glow across your forehead, chin, cheeks, and neck. Each shade is vibrant and gives you that bit of shine in all the right spots. While I really loved the way this bronzer went on, it really blended and created this natural glow, I don't wear bronzer in the winter months. My skin is pretty pale and I find it can be a bit overwhelming against my natural shade. I said before though how I don't wear much makeup in the summer so this is going to be perfect for me to use then! I can add a bit of bronzer and the cheek balm, and a bit of lip gloss, and that will be all I need as I head out to the pool or football/cheerleading practices with my kids (all the things that consume our summers now).

While this isn't something I'm going to use right now, it is wonderful to add to my summer makeup routine.

PAT McGRATH LABS Divine Rose Luxe Quad: Eternal Eden, 0.19 oz. - Retail Value $62

I really love dusty rose shades like these. They remind me of when my mom first started teaching me how to apply my makeup, she gave me this beautiful rose eyeshadow that wasn't too harsh, so if I used too much it didn't look horrible. I really wish you could see how rosy this shade looked in person, but in the photo it looks a bit brown (I think my lipstick shade is throwing it off a bit), but it really is more of a purple/pink tone.

Each shadow blends really well and they work together nicely so you can really build different looks with just these 4 shades. The only shade I had difficulty with was the glitter. I wanted to use it as a center and brow highlight but it was not coming off of my brush for some reason. I am going to try using it by applying with my finger and see how that goes. Overall, this is a really fun palette to have on hand when I want to mix things up.

HUDA BEAUTY Empowered Eyeshadow Palette - Retail Value $69

I've discovered in the past few months just how picky I can be about eyeshadow. I can safely say that I am obsessed with this palette! It is so unique because not only does it come with a ton of shades but there are different finishes as well. This palette has 9 powder matte shadows, 2 powder metallics, 1 crushed flake gold, 2 high-shine wet metallics, and 2 gel hybrid eyeliner shadows.

Each shade is highly pigmented so they go on smooth, you can easily build for a deeper tone, and they blend beautifully. I love that there is a mixture of neutrals, coppers, and golds, which are basically what I like to wear every day; but I can build out a look to make it for an evening or special occasion. All of the powders had little to no fallout, a huge plus for me, and everything has such a creamy rich tone to it. This is an everyday staple that I'm so happy to be adding to my palette collection.

Verdict

My first Ipsy Icon Box curation was incredible and came in with a retail value of $332, wow! The value is absolutely there and the quality of each brand felt very high-end to me. As I mentioned earlier, Pat McGrath is a name that I've known for years, and is someone that I know my mom always loved following as a fellow makeup artist. Her curation felt fun, easy, yet still elevated. You could enjoy it without having too much experience with makeup, or enjoy it as a top makeup influencer; it really had it all. I loved discovering new brands and products that I normally would never try on my own (retinol). While a lot of the shades aren't working for me right now, they are going to become staples for me in the summer months when I have a bit more of a tan. I sort of loved that it was things I can use down the road and not all winter-focused products like a lot of boxes right now. Overall this box blew me away and I was happy to dive into what products Pat would use on her own!

Hi!
I agree, my November icon box was awesome!

I started my Ipsy subscription a year ago. The first few months it was just ok. Around April the products were hugely improved. I think my first Icon box was May. By mid-summer I was spending a lot each month on extra products because the deals were insane! I bought skincare products that are Nordstrom & Bloomingdale’s high end products. Ok, maybe not high end, but $150 serums for $30’ish.

I love how well you show pics of the products and use them in ways that average women use them.

One suggestion- when wearing the red lipstick, try using a blush that isn’t pink or red. Maybe a light dusting with a soft tan. Followed with a pink highlighter.

I was out of touch with makeup for almost 10 years due to health and financial issues. (Boooo!) I started buying products and watching current styles. I absolutely love the new red & pink eyeshadow palettes! Some artists can make a lot of red/pink- eyes, cheeks & lips look good. Generally I think too much can make us look like we have a fever. One thing they do is position the red blush higher up the cheek and around and a little above the brow. I love the look but I’m old & fat. 😉 I really have to try to find what will look good on me now.

If you are interested, I’ve saved pics of gorgeous red faces. Email me and I can send a few to you.

Besides that, I loved your blog today. Good luck! 😘

Great review. I’m really interested in the clearing serum. Do you mind if I ask what your tattoo symbol means? I’ve always admired it, but I would want to know the meaning before considering getting one myself.
