I'm still over here searching for that pot of gold with Rocksbox, and this month my picker was totally off. After loving the Rocksbox Redefined pieces in the previous set, I decided to venture outside of my normal picks and try a few more pieces, but this time I was left feeling a little disappointed. Let's explore this month's set and find out why it wasn't my fave.

Rocksbox is a jewelry styling and rental service. Members pay a flat rate every month to get unlimited access to the Rocksbox collection and the option to buy whatever they love at a discounted price. Each month, Rocksbox will curate sets of three pieces to send your way, including at least one piece from your ever-growing wishlist. Members can keep and wear the three pieces they receive for as long as they want, or they can switch out sets whenever they'd like. Rocksbox also offers a monthly credit so you can buy the pieces for less.

Concerned about cleanliness? Each piece is sterilized with alcohol jewelry cleaner using medical grade products and handled with jewelry experts wearing gloves.

This is a review of the monthly plan for $21, which includes shipping to the US only.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Just like other subscription boxes, when I signed up for Rocksbox I had to set up a style profile that asked me questions like my metal preference, and which necklace, earring, bracelet, and ring styles I liked the most.

Let's check out this month's delivery!

What I Received

Kate Spade Victoria Studs - Retail Value $58, Member Price $58

About this item: Crafted in plated metal with cubic zirconia, glass stones, and signature Kate Spade clutch backs, these earrings remind me of Kate Middleton, and that's why I rented them. The Victoria Studs showcase colorful oval crystals with a sparkling halo for an elegant look. They measure at about a 1/2" in length, and they're quite lightweight.

Condition: Perfect!

Review: While they're pretty and I love the colors, they weren't exactly what I was looking for.

Rocksbox Redefined Aspen Drops - Retail Price $65, Member Price $65

About this item: The Aspen Drops in Gold by Rocksbox Redefined are hammered, high polish, 14k gold-plated drop earrings made up of two dangling, abstract-shaped links. These earrings are made with a base of recycled brass and measure 1.75''. Designed in-house and inspired by the perfectly imperfect beauty of nature, this collection is just one of many steps we’re taking toward making a smaller footprint. These subtle-yet-striking styles take after Scandinavian design to hit the right balance of bold and classic.

Condition: Perfect!

Review: I was disappointed in these earrings. I didn't love the length or the way they sat on my earlobes.

Rocksbox Redefined Aspen Layered Necklace - Retail Value $85, Member Price $85

About this item: The Aspen Layered Necklace in Gold by Rocksbox Redefined is a hammered, high polish, 14k gold-plated necklace with two layers that have a unique, wavy design. This necklace is made with a base of recycled brass and measures 15'' with a 3” extender. Designed in-house and inspired by the perfectly imperfect beauty of nature, this collection is just one of many steps we’re taking toward making a smaller footprint. These subtle-yet-striking styles take after Scandinavian design to hit the right balance of bold and classic.

Condition: Perfect!

Review: It kept twisting, it was difficult to adjust, and it just felt really cheap.

The Verdict

This month I didn't get what I was hoping for. The Kate Spade Victoria Studs were the best of the bunch, but even they were underwhelming. As for the Rocksbox Redefined earrings and necklace, they looked a lot better in photos than in person. While it's not Rocksbox's fault, I was disappointed with my picks and hardly wore anything. In fact, I even sent it back early so I could receive what I now have for November, and I scored this time!

Value Breakdown: Rocksbox membership costs $21 per month. At retail, the three pieces would've cost me $208. With my Rocksbox discounts and the member pricing including the buy-all-three-items $10 discount, the $21 of Shine Credit (the membership fee for the month which goes towards your purchases), my Rose Gold Rewards discount of $10.40, the total price for the three items goes down to $166.60.

If shopping were an Olympic sport, I’d be a gold medalist. And while my bank account often feels the crunch, I just can’t stop buying secondhand clothing and accessories, under-the-radar designer goods, stuffed animal unicorns (I have about 75), and toys for my pet bunny rabbit. After 20 years of city slicking in NYC and DC, I now have a car and love to tour the Virginia countryside looking for vintage shops, undiscovered wineries and breweries, historic sites, and Thai restaurants—I’m addicted to Thai food. I never leave home without a spare phone charger because I love horror movies and therefore have an irrational fear of being stranded somewhere with a dead battery.

I really like the Kate Spade earrings. Thank you for reviewing Rocks Box. It’s nice to see what they are offering currently. My problem with this subscription is that they don’t discount the jewelry if you want to keep it beyond a measly 10% if you get all three. I understand your rental fee goes towards the cost too. Yet since these are worn by multiple people, I wish they would take that into consideration and discount each piece appropriately.
