First Impressions

This month's box is "The Renewal Box," a fresh new start for the fall season.

Kinder Beauty has embraced a "choose your own adventure" approach to their subscription; they offer 3 base or "foundation" products, and you can choose one product from each of two categories. Kinder was kind enough to send us each product in both categories so you can get a better look at this month's choices.

The Choices

The first category included a choice of three products. Choose between Ready Set Jet Color Stacks in In The Nude ($12 value), INH Quick Slick - Flyaway Hair Essence ($18 value), or Three Ships Nourish Lavender + MCT Cleansing Oil ($18 value)

In the second choice category, you get to choose one of two products including Blaq Teeth Whitening Charcoal Powder ($20) or Ready Set Jet Color Stacks in The Weekender ($12 value).

My Choices

Nourish Lavender + MCT Cleansing Oil - Retail Value - $18.00

I had a hard time choosing an item from the first category this month. Quick Slip is a great product for on the go if you suffer from frizz and flyaways on the daily, and you can never go wrong with a nude eyeshadow. Ultimately I asked myself which product I could use the most right now, and I had to go for the nourishing cleansing oil. This product did a pretty great job removing makeup, although the ultimate test would be waterproof mascara or a liquid lipstick. The lavender fragrance is very mild, and I enjoyed adding this nourishing extra step to my skincare routine at night.

Blaq Teeth Whitening Charcoal Powder - Retail Value - $20.00

When these powders first hit the market, I was all over them. I loved the novelty of putting black powder through my teeth and the satisfaction of seeing the grey aftermath in the sink. Well, truthfully, the novelty has not worn off. It is just as thrilling, if not more, since I feel like I have been on the search for a gentle whitening product. This is nice and minty, and if you're careful opening the package, the mess is minimal.

Foundation Products

Onekind Radical Repair™ Skin Renewal 20% Pro-Mask - Retail Value - $49.00

I am really starting to love this brand, thanks to Kinder BeautyTheir skincare, so far, is catered to those with sensitive skin. I have never used such gentle, yet effective exfoliating products, and I am stoked to have another go-to in my arsenal. This mask is a powerful AHA exfoliant that takes 10 minutes to work its magic. It was easy to wash off, and my face looked and felt so soft and radiant.

Province Apothecary Ultra Soft Facial Dry Brush - Retail Value - $18.00

Drying brushing is an awesome way to exfoliate and get your blood flowing. This brush was a little rougher (for a face brush) than I am used to, but I really think I am going to like using this after showers in the morning. My morning skincare went on so nicely afterward, I think I may make this a part of my routine indefinitely.

Dr. Botanicals Lemon Superfood All-In-One Rescue Butter - Retail Value - $14.90

This multi-use butter is lovely. I had some strenuous manual labor to do, so after my morning shower, I just smoothed some of this on my face, and there were several times this morning when I thought "Ooooh, this is nice." My face felt so soft and comfortable, and for someone with dry skin working in a 90° garage, that is a feat! There is a very subtle citrus fragrance, but you have to be looking for it to detect the scent. This is great for dry patches and can be used anywhere hydration is needed.

The Verdict

This month's Kinder Beauty Box has so many staple products in it. I love getting beauty tools in subscription boxes, so the Province Apothecary Dry Face Brush was a total joy to unbox. Dr. Botanicals and Onekind Skincare are two brands I love to explore, so I am happy to have new skincare to use this fall.

The element of surprise and experimentation that subscription boxes offer is still there with the three base products everyone receives, but choosing two things has made this subscription even dearer to me. This month’s box variation, including the two products I selected, has a retail value of $119.90, which is an excellent value for its cost of $27.

I keep skipping months and glad I did. They just don’t impress me. For a few more bucks, I got the Trendmood Box 20 which has items I actually need, full sizes and new names.

I’m surprised that they let you skip so much. When I was thinking about subscribing, I asked them if it was acceptable to skip roughly every other month, since I don’t need that much stuff. They told me not to subscribe.
