The Seasonal Subscription Box from Margot Elena is a quarterly subscription box featuring full-size beauty and lifestyle items. (If you aren't familiar with this brand, it's carried in stores like Anthropologie.)

For $59.99 a quarter + $6.95 shipping (to the contiguous US only), you'll discover the world of All Things Beautiful—this box is filled with over $200 worth of full-sized products curated by the Margot Elena team.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Opening The Box

It's all sunny colors and florals when you open the summertime Margot Elena Subscription Box! Ready to see what they're serving up for Summer 2023?

First, our info card that introduces the spirit of the season. Margot Elena has us thinking about slowing our pace to match that summertime slowness with this quarter's spread. I see some box exclusives on that list, we'll explore those shortly.

Here's What's Inside

TokyoMilk Wild Whims Handcreme, 2.65 oz — Retail Value $23

First up, subscribers can expect to receive one of an assortment of TokyoMilk handcremes in the 2.65 oz size. I was sent the Wild Whims scent, and it's my first time encountering this fragrance. To be honest, it isn't my favorite! Based on the description of this scent—sweet grass, clary sage, verdant florals, and citron—I thought I'd love it. It took me half the day of smelling it on my hands to figure out what wasn't working for me. In the end, I determined it smells to me like bar soap. Funny how that clean, clear scent suits me in the shower but not throughout my day. I passed this handcreme along to a friend who disagrees with me and has been enjoying it very much.

Infinite She Vibrant Lip Balm, .25 oz — Retail Value $10

Next up is another "assorted" item: Infinite She lip balms. My first exposure to Infinite She lip balms was Fall 2022, when we were all given the Inspired scent. I ended up tossing it in my backpack-style purse for a trip, and its fruity scent proceeded to make my entire backpack smell like its youthful berry aroma seemingly forevermore. This Vibrant scent smells (and faintly tastes) so similar to the Inspired one that I actually thought it was a repeat at first. Of all the Margot Elena lines, Infinite She is the only one I consistently feel underwhelmed by—probably because it's seemingly meant for a younger crowd. I would have been all over these scents in middle school and high school, and there's a nostalgia to them that makes me smile.

Archive Journey Within Shower Gel, 8 fl 0z — Retail Value $23

We've got another callback to Fall 2022 here, when we were sent a Journey Within body lotion from the Archive line. Here it is in body wash form. I enjoy the less-feminine spirit of the Archive line, and my husband is drawn to the scent as well. It is quite perfumed, so the bottle of lotion from fall is still going strong over here, since we intersperse using it with something a little more neutral-smelling. I think I'll plop this body wash in our  guest room shower—while it's a gender-neutral scent, it seems very mature; whereas the more floral-scented washes Margot Elena offers seem well-suited to use in our main bathroom, where we bathe our young daughters.

Archive Yet to Be Written Fragrance, 1.69 fl oz — Retail Value $54

Here's another Archive offering, and the first of their perfumes we've been sent in this box. Actually, I'm noticing that it's called "fragrance," as opposed to "eau de parfum," and I wonder if that's a nod to its being fitting for any gender to use. It's surprisingly bright for my impression of the Archive line, rather citrusy. The fragrance notes are of grapefruit and neroli, so that makes sense—an earthy, grounded, yet somehow energetic feel. This fragrance feels fitting and fresh for the season.

The Cottage Greenhouse Japanese Plum & White Tea Dry Body Oil, 4 fl oz — Retail Value $32

This moisture-rich dry body oil is an oil we've received, but in a different scent; its scent has popped up in different types of products, too. It's nice to have the two combined, as I know I like this oil for after shaving my legs (which I do more frequently in the warmer weather seasons), but appreciate a different fragrance than the one I've been using. I always like rotating the scents I use, just to change things up now and again.

Infinite She Greeting Cards: Thank You, XO, and Happy Birthday — Retail Value $5.50 each

One thing I think Infinite She does really well is their greeting cards. They're undeniably fun! This quarter we were provided a Thank You card that's blank pink inside, a general "love" card with an XO on the front and some graphic words inside (I'll show those below), and a groovy birthday card that's blank inside, also pink-tinted. I'm excited to use these either in the mail or alongside gifts.

Here's a closer peek at the XO card, and its faintly holographic text. The inside has the words "love you, kiss kiss, heart you, so much love" printed faintly enough that they could be written over—or they could be colored, outlined, or doodled around. Cute!

Exclusive! Lollia Breathe Bubble Bath Mini — Listed Value $22

Oh, I love a good Margot Elena bubble bath. I don't take many baths, but my daughters do, and it's extra-sweet to have a beautiful aromatherapy situation in the mix. The full size of this item is available here, though quite honestly I prefer this more modest size. It will likely take us the full quarter or longer to get through this bottle, as we only use bubbles occasionally.

I've experienced this before with Margot Elena bubble bath: once the seal is broken, the cork-style lid slides back out of the bottle due to some sort of pressure. This lessens as you use the product inside, but it's something to be careful of at first. I store bath products in a basket in my bathroom—in other words, not on a flat surface—which could get messy if I didn't take precautions with this bottle.

Exclusive! Margot Elena Coming Up Roses Ceramic Tray — Listed Value $20

Finally, we receive a floral ceramic tray with a navy blue border around it. How lovely! I can never have enough junk-collecting dishes, and the more I own, the more opportunities for categorization...and the less junky they seem. So, yay, this went to use on my dresser right away.

Value - Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $59.99 + $6.95 shipping to the contiguous United States.

Value Breakdown: Summer 2023 with the Margot Elena Box included a total of 8 products (considering the 3 cards as 1 item), adding up to a value of $200.50. The box costs $66.94 with shipping included, so like last quarter (and most quarters), this breaks down to $8.37 per item. It's common knowledge that this is a total steal, but it hit me extra this month when I walked into a local gardening boutique and spotted TokyoMilk creme on the shelf for $28. That's almost $20 savings just for that one tube of handcreme! Everything in this box is really high-quality, beautiful, and curated with the season in mind.

Key Takeaways

This was a solid Margot Elena Box, to be sure. I loved the exposure to the duo of Archive selections—one in a new format of a familiar scent and the other a fresh experience altogether. I'm also glad that an exclusive home item was included. I'll concede that after the thrill of home items making their return last quarter, this quarter's box didn't pack the same punch. But everything in here is seasonally appropriate, quality as always, and will be used with great joy. The only one I didn't hang onto was the Wild Whims creme, but I was pleased to be able to share part of my Margot Elena experience with a friend.

You aren’t imagining it. The lip balm scent/flavor IS the same as the one we got in fall 2022’s box. Apparently the assorted part is the cardboard tube it comes in. All the Infinite She balms are rose hip and hibiscus, and also the Tokyo Milk balms are cherry. I only realised this after I wrote to customer service to see if I could exchange it for a non repetitive item. (No answer from them on that yet.) I went to the site to see the other versions and found all the descriptions the same.

Say what! This is a curious development. Oddly misleading from a brand I think of as having such variety and originality of scents. Thanks for sharing the intel.

Sad. I miss the old days with Liz, spoilers, unique boxes, one-offs, popsugar, beauty swag, beauty report… the good stuff.

Loved your review and photos!

I feel the same with the infinite she…Love the cards because they are easy to use, but the products seem “tweenish”.

Would love to see more Tokyomilk Dark products!

Thanks for the awesome review and the spoilers! 🙂
