Fortune Cookie Soap Box is a monthly subscription for $19.95 ($16.95 for those who subscribed before 11/13/22). Included in the subscription is a $10 off $25 coupon code that will be sent to you via email. It’s good for items (from any collection) on the Fortune Cookie website.

Each box contains 1 full and 3 deluxe sized items. Quarterly, though, they give 6 items. This was a quarterly box.

Editor's Note: This review was written in anticipation of the box's launch on 5/26. For this reason, links and retail values were not available at the time of publication.

This box was paid for by the author. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

This month's theme is: "Made With Love” based on a bakery concept. According to the insert, FCS has been baking up amazing body concoctions since 2004! That’s a lot of soap!

Let's Get Cooking!

Half Baked Bubble Scoop

A Bubble Scoop is basically a solid bubble bath. Crumble this soft scoop of “dough” under running water for a tub full of bubbles. They’re very soft and crumble easily, but I think they’re a better choice to travel with than liquid bubble bath; stick this little scoop in your suitcase for a travel treat!

According to Fortune Cookie Soap, FCS, for short, the scent is:

“sweet chocolate batter, butter, vanilla and cream filled with Southern pecans, crunchy praline and a sticky caramel center.”

I don’t like food-scented body products, so unfortunately for me, I can tell this box is going to be a gift for my brother-in-law. He has a sweet tooth and will enjoy this calorie-free box of treats!

Donuts Make Me Go Nuts - Fortune Cookie Soap

This box is the quarterly box, which always includes a fortune cookie-shaped soap. This fortune cookie soap is unlike any I’ve seen before because of the poppyseeds. My sister makes a fantastic poppyseed soap so it was fun to receive one from FCS. I’ve been a FCS customer for years and I can’t remember ever seeing them use poppyseeds before. They’re actually a very nice natural exfoliant that are better for the environment than non-biodegradable additives which get washed into the ocean.

However, I was a little disappointed that my bar was slimy. If you look at the photos, you can actually see droplets of liquid. I’ve made some melt and pour soap and had the same problem. I was told to try using a low sweating variety of glycerine next time. While this is the first time I’ve received a slimy soap from FCS, I’ve noticed that when I don’t use them within a month or two of purchase, they do get wet inside their packaging. Hopefully FCS will figure out a way to make them last longer; until then, soap up right away to enjoy them at their absolute best!

According to the FCS, the scent is:

“...bright mix of lemon poppyseed, brown sugar and cake batter with a deliciously sweet blueberry glaze.”

Whip It Real Good - Whipped Soap

Fortune Cookie’s whipped soap is fantastic! It’s thick, creamy and luxurious beyond belief. I really wanted to like the scent but it’s just too sweet for me. Happily, I have a huge stockpile of FCS items in my bathroom cabinets, not to mention the ridiculous amount of their products that I already have open in my shower! But it’s impossible to have too many bath products, right?

According to FCS, the scent has:

“Fluffy wisps of coconut, melted butter and sweet vanilla combined with freshly baked shortbread cookies to make one scrumptious blend.”

That’s bound to make someone’s shower a lot sweeter!

Shut Your Pie Hole - Sea Salt Hair Spritz

I have naturally wavy/curlyish hair so I have a ton of sea salt hair sprays from many different brands, including FCS. Fortune Cookie’s hair products are fantastic and I’m a big fan of their salt spray. Unlike some brands, they put aloe (and several oils) in it so my hair doesn’t feel dried out. Surprisingly, I like the scent of this spritz; it’s fresh and zesty without being overly sweet. I’m definitely keeping this. It’s going in my travel bag but if you’re the gym type, its small size makes it perfect for a post-workout shower spritz!

According to FCS, the scent is:

"A tasty blend of lime, green lemon zest and tart kiwi atop sweet vanilla cream and a crumbly pie crust.”

Cake My Day - Aloe Me Whipped Cream

"Aloe Me"s are in my top 5 favorite products that Fortune Cookie Soap makes. They combine the long-lasting moisturizing ability of FCS’s Whipped Cream, with the immediate acting cooling moisture of their Aloe-lujah Skin Gel. Fast-acting and long-lasting: the best of both worlds! This one feels fantastic; I’m just not a fan of the scent. However, I do have a ton of these in scents I do enjoy and a trick I’ve learned is to keep one of these in the refrigerator. There isn’t a better feeling on a hot day, and it’s perfect if you’ve had a little too much sun.

According to FCS, the scent has:

“...a golden shortcake topped with fresh strawberries and a big dollop of whipped cream.”

Nice Buns - Booty Scrub

I can’t think of a more fitting product to include in a dessert-themed box than a sugar scrub! It’s a lovely purple color so I wanted it to smell like lavender, but that wouldn’t fit the theme, so I wasn’t surprised that it smelled super sweet. It says that it’s a booty scrub and they’ve called it “Nice Buns!” How very cheeky of them!

According to FCS, the scent is:

"...a rich and creamy buttery toffee with a touch of crunchy nuts and gooey caramel drizzle.”

Don’t Be Afraid Sticker - Retail Value $0.99

Every month, FCS makes around 4 stickers. They put one in each box they send out. The cute sticker I received this month says, “Don’t be afraid to take whisks.” A fitting play on words considering that Fortune Cookie Soap isn’t afraid to take risks; their products and themes are always creative.

To buy the full set of stickers designed especially for this month, look on FCS’s website after the full collection launches (on 5/26/23). All are designed by FCS with graphics and quotes that are worthy of a place in your sticker collection.

The Verdict

While the scents in this box aren’t my cup of tea, it really is yet another great box from Fortune Cookie Soap! Even though I didn’t care for most of the scents in this collection, I know a lot of people will, plus I can still say that FCS always chooses great themes with products that are very creative in their type, scent and name. It’s never hard to find a home for my extra FCS items, it’s much more difficult to part with them, but this box of sweets is headed your way, Sergio!

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you still sign up today? No, but if you want a box, sign up quickly because there is a waiting list. Once you’re on the waiting list, you’ll be contacted when there is a spot open, and you’ll be given 24 hours to claim your spot. However, all of these items shown above, and many, many more full-size items from the “Made with Love” collection are available for sale here.

Value Breakdown: The box costs $19.95 (including shipping), which means each of the 7 items (including the sticker) cost an average of about $2.85 each. Plus, with every box, you’ll be e-mailed a code for $10 off any order of $25 or more to be used on any items in their vast store. That makes this box an incredibly good deal.

Great review. I am so glad you review this subscription and I hope you keep doing so. This is a great sub and company (IMHO) if anyone was considering it.
