First Impressions

It’s been a while since we received one of these boxes, and I can hardly wait to see what array of products have been curated for us this time around. Let’s check it out!

The back of the Cocotique Makeup Lovers Box info card describes all the products included in this month’s box. It also provides information on where to purchase the products online and exclusive discount codes where available.

Now, on to the items!

SAINT LUXE BEAUTY Shimmer Body Oil in Soleil, 30 ml - Retail Value $30

Body oil is my favorite, so I was thrilled to see this one from Saint Luxe Beauty in this month’s box. I always choose body oil in lieu of a body lotion or cream. This one in particular has such a delightful scent, and that’s coming from someone who’s sensitive to scents and would usually prefer a product without any fragrance at all. But this body oil smells like a luscious vanilla cupcake, and it’s not at all overpowering. I appreciate how hydrated this oil leaves my skin, and thanks to the added shimmer, it leaves my body sparkling bright like a diamond. One thing that surprised me was the texture, which is a bit thicker than I expected for an oil; it’s almost more of a gel texture. Regardless, it delivers just like an oil would, and it absorbs quickly into my skin, leaving behind soft, smooth, glimmering skin.

SAINT LUXE BEAUTY Liquid Glow in Champagne, 10 g - Retail Value $24

I’ve never been the biggest fan of liquid highlighter… But when I saw this Liquid Glow from Saint Luxe Beauty, it was too pretty to turn down. Now, I’m sold. The shade, ‘Champagne,’ is truly stunning as is the shimmer it delivers. With such a smooth formula, I actually found it very easy to apply, and it blends in easily. Bonus points for having a good old doe foot applicator. This particular style of applicator makes it easy to apply more precise contouring, if that’s something you’re into, and I appreciate that flexibility. Unfortunately, this particular shade is a bit too light for my skin tone, but it’s still very pretty. If you’ve been more of a powder highlighter user like myself, averse to the liquids, I’d suggest giving this a try.

SAINT LUXE BEAUTY Blush in Cranberry Bliss, 4.3 g - Retail Value $18

And Saint Luxe Beauty delivers once again… What a beautiful blush! The shade ‘cranberry bliss’ is a lovely reddish shade minus the harshness of a true red, and it’s honestly a nice color to accent my skin tone with. This blush comes in a nice-sized compact that includes a mirror, which I very much appreciate. It’s perfect for applying touch-ups on the go or during date night. I tend to only apply a light dusting of blush for my everyday makeup look, so this compact will last me for quite a while due to the amount of product. What I also really enjoy about this blush is the formula; it’s smooth, with a velvety texture that kind of just glides right onto the skin. Very easy to build a deeper shade, depending on your preferences, and it blends together well. I like how this shade creates a more dramatic-looking flush on my skin tone. Despite my skin being on the oily side, this blush has quite the long-staying power, and it doesn’t just wipe off, which is doubly impressive since some blushes slide off my face in less than 20 minutes. In my experience, that’s not at all a concern with this blush.

BASIC BEAUTY Lip Kit Gel Liner and Lip Gloss in Iced Coffee, 3.2 g (Liner) and 1.2 g (Gloss) - Retail Value $25

I always feel like my lips are a bit shapeless, and I’ve always wanted the cupid’s bow that some out there are lucky enough to have. Of course, I know how to fix this… Hence why lip liners are so popular despite myself never quite getting a handle on it (but I have been practicing). This Basic Beauty lip kit includes a gel liner and a lip gloss in the shade, ‘Iced Coffee,’ which is neutral for my skin tone. I have to say, I was impressed with the liner. The ‘gel’ texture makes it a bit simpler to apply, gliding on smoothly and seamlessly. With a very pointed and precise tip minus the sharpness of a traditional pencil liner, this lip liner is impressive. It doesn’t drag across the delicate skin of my lips. Rounding out this kit, the lip gloss is an added bonus, with a texture that’s creamy and luxurious. It applies smoothly and feels comfortable while wearing, without drying down in a harsh way, leaving my lips feeling moisturized and not at all sticky.

GAËLLE COSMETICS Lip Treatment Balm, 13 g - Retail Value $12

Lip care is super important to me; there’s nothing I dislike more on myself than a pair of dry, crusty, cracked lips. Naturally, I was happy to see this Lip Treatment Balm from Gaëlle Cosmetics. Although it looks to be a light pink shade in the container, it’s sheer on my lips, which I actually prefer. Speaking of the container, O-M-G… I love how sleek it is, and the sizing is perfect for tossing this into my bag or a pocket. What I really enjoy about this lip product is that it’s both a treatment and a balm in one. I like to apply this right before bed so that it has the maximum amount of time to absorb into my lips, and I have to say, I’ve been waking up with significantly more hydrated lips. The formula contains unique ingredients like strawberry and sweet cherry extracts, avocado oil, and shea butter, so it not only delivers on hydration but it has a light scent that I quite enjoy. The only downside of this product, for me personally, is the need to stick my finger into the balm in order to apply; I’d much rather prefer an applicator to eliminate the potential of germs.

GAËLLE COSMETICS Loose Pigment in Ultra, 2 g - Retail Value $11

Whoa, this Loose Pigment from Gaëlle Cosmetics is absolutely beautiful. I really love this shade (Ultra). The product is well-pigmented, and it goes on smoothly. I was actually quite impressed with the quality of it. Now, the one thing I noticed is that apparently you can use this pigment not only on your eyes but also your face and body… I’m not sure in what situation someone would want this particular shade somewhere else other than their eyelids, but to each their own. The packaging is incredibly sleek and super cute. I truly love it, and although the container is teeny-tiny, a little goes a long way, so this should last for quite a number of uses. The only thing about the shade, although it is stunning, is that it’s also incredibly bright; so, it’s probably something I would use only for very specific looks and definitely not an everyday color for someone like myself.

Verdict

This was an awesome Cocotique Makeup Lover’s Box! I enjoyed each of the products, which is not typical when it comes to makeup-heavy subscription boxes. The highlight for me was the Saint Luxe Beauty trifecta: the body oil, liquid highlighter, and blush. Body oil is my preference when it comes to hydrating my body, and I love the little shimmer. Leveling up my shimmer level is also the liquid highlighter, which is in a shade that’s perfect for my skin tone, and I like the ability for precise application / contouring thanks to the doe foot applicator. The blush is a lovely shade and delivers like the other two products from Saint Luxe Beauty; definitely a win for me. Basic Beauty’s lip kit includes both a gel liner and a lip gloss. While I don’t use lip liners too often, this one has swayed me a bit because of the smooth formula, and the lip gloss is a welcome addition to my stash. And lastly, the two products from Gaëlle Cosmetics… I absolutely love the lip treatment balm, which acts as both a treatment and a balm and is perfect for overnight wear, cocooning my lips in a layer of hydration. Finally, the loose pigment is a stunning blue shade that I absolutely love, but it’s definitely for a specific look and not for my typical everyday makeup routine. Overall, I thought this was a truly great box. The product curation was varied enough and gave a little bit of everything, and the value is there.

On the lip balm, the little round gold thing, that IS the applicator. You pull that out to apply the product.
