First Impressions

Each month, Nourish Beauty Box usually arrives with an info card that has a quick overview of the box on one side and more detailed information about the products included on the other. This month I did not receive a card.

Nourish Beauty Box has continued on the trend of omitting their own products from the box, which is an interesting choice. I would have expected a notice from the company if they decided to go in a new direction, but only time will tell. In the meantime, I’m happy to experience some other great cruelty free and vegan brands out there.

Now, on to the items!

BELLA VIDA SANTA BARBARA Pineapple Paradiso Glow Mask, 60 ml - Retail Value $38.00

If you know me, you know that gel products and wash-off masks are two of my favorite things. I’ve had the chance to try this Pineapple Paradiso Glow Mask from Bella Vida Santa Barbara once before, and I loved it then, so I’m more than thrilled to have it in my stash again. The product’s texture is a true gel, and it feels ultra-cooling on my skin. The glow mask has a delicious piña colada scent to it, which I enjoy, and it’s not at all overpowering or irritating. When I first apply this mask, there’s a slight bit of a tingle to it, due to the pineapple’s acidity. I actually like the tingle because that’s proof to me that the formula is working. What I enjoy most about the gel texture is that it doesn’t dry down like a clay mask. It does tighten ever so slightly but not uncomfortably so. After washing off the mask, my skin is left feeling nourished and moisturized. I find this to be an incredibly refreshing mask, and I highly recommend it to any other gel product lovers out there.

WYLDFLOWER LABS Omega Cleanse Reparative Gel Cleanser, 30 ml - Retail Value $35.00

Oooh, another gel product! I can always have another cleanser on hand, and Wyldflower Labs is a solid brand. The highlight of this product for me is the inclusion of roselle flowers, which contain AHAs, providing the added benefit of mild exfoliation. I love how squeaky clean and hydrated this cleanser leaves my skin. The only downside of this product is the type of packaging it comes in… When it comes to products on the smaller side, I do appreciate being able to use every last drop especially when it’s a cleanser of this caliber. With this type of bottle, however, it’s a bit more difficult to get use out of the entire thing. But that’s a minor detail when it comes to my enjoyment of this cleanser. I do like that enough product has been included in order for me to reap the benefits of the powerful ingredients in this formula. A truly lovely cleanser.

CHARLOTTE COOK COSMETICS Lipstick in Monaco, 4.5 ml - Retail Value $19.99

I love it when a lip product comes with a doe foot applicator like this one. Unfortunately, I find the shade ‘Monaco’ to be too light for my skin tone, but it does give a bit of a neutral look. In terms of formula, this Charlotte Cook Cosmetics Lipstick has a nice matte finish on the lips. I appreciate that it doesn’t leave my lips feeling dry unlike others I’ve tried in the past. Thanks to the powerful combo of glycerin, sunflower oil, and cocoa butter, it’s smooth and hydrating. One thing I noticed is that it doesn’t seem to be that long-lasting. I’d probably have to apply this a few times throughout the day in order to maintain the pigment (which goes on very lightly). Then again, since this is more of a neutral color for me, the pigment doesn’t necessarily matter. I do appreciate having this on hand for its hydrating components.

NURTUR HEALTH Botanical Facial Steam in Floral, 7 g - Retail Value $5.23

Wow, a Botanical Facial Steam… In all honesty, a facial steam situation is not for me. That’s based purely on personal preference. Now, I have always wanted an actual facial steamer unit, and if I ever got my hands on one, I might actually try this one from Nurtur Health. But prepping it manually isn’t something that appeals to me. The prep time that this would require just isn’t time I’m interested in giving especially since I have so little of my own. I also noticed that since this is a 'floral' facial steam, it would likely create a flowery scent that'd be a bit too much for my delicate nostrils. With that in mind, I’m going to be passing along this luxurious product to a friend of mine who truly appreciates facial steams.

Verdict

I thought this was a solid month for Nourish Beauty Box! The highlight for me by far was Bella Vida’s glow mask, which leaves my skin feeling refreshed. I also really enjoy the little tingle of the pineapple. The gel cleanser from Wyldflower Labs is another great addition to my skincare routine, and it leaves my face feeling clean and hydrated but not at all stripped. Charlotte Cook’s lipstick in ‘Monaco’ has a luscious formula that’s much less drying than others I’ve tried in the past. With the inclusion of cocoa butter and more, the matte texture feels comfortable on my lips. Even though it’s too light for my skin tone, I enjoy using it as a hydrating gloss. Lastly, the facial steam from Nurtur Health… Although this isn’t the product for me, I’m sure the benefits are well worth it for those who enjoy utilizing such a thing. My spa-loving friend is going to appreciate this. Overall, for me, this was just an okay month since I can only use (to the fullest extent) two of the four products included, but the value is certainly there.

The retail on that gel cleanser is even more ridiculous than normal for subscription box pricing. La Mer cleanser (the most expensive stand-alone cleanser on Sephora’s site) is less than $25 per ounce. The Wyldflower Labs is $35 per ounce. That’s some expensive soap.
