Macy’s Beauty Box is a monthly beauty subscription box that sends you deluxe product samples of skincare, makeup, fragrances, and beauty tools for $15.00/month. They also release limited edition and curated boxes like this Nam Vo Glow Box set, which features a mix of skincare and makeup must haves that will help you achieve a perfect glow at a reasonable price point.

FYI- this set is still available for purchase.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

Everything came packaged in this cardboard box that looks like a bag, and I couldn't wait to tear into it. Also inside was a coupon for $5 off my next Macy's beauty purchase of $20 or more, which I wasn't expecting.

The Products

Benefit Cosmetics Cookie Highlighter, 0.28 oz (Full Size) - Retail Value $35

I've heard really great things about this highlighter for a while- a makeup artist I love and follow on TikTok says this is her favorite highlighter of all time, and some of my friends on Instagram also have raved about this. All of that is to say I was really looking forward to trying this- it was the selling point in the set to me after the Sunday Riley serum. Luckily, it lived up to the hype! Cookie is described as a golden pearl and I think that's a great description because the powder is superfine. The finish is a dewy shimmer, not sparkly glitter, and the light it gives to my face lasts all day- I was definitely impressed. I only need a tiny bit for my normal makeup look, and if I go in a little heavier I am going to BLIND you with my highlighter (which, honestly, is sometimes my mood).

ELEMIS Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm, 20 g - Retail Value $16

Ugh, I love this cleansing balm; it's probably one of my all-time favorites. It has such a luscious texture that I would classify between a cream and a gel, and it just melts into the skin once you start to massage it in. It's gentle and never causes my eyes to water or burn, and removes foundation and mascara without much elbow grease. I will take all of these balms I can get.

Lancôme Juicy Tube in Tickled Pink, 15 ml (Full Size) - Retail Value $24

I love that Lancôme brought the Juicy Tube lip gloss back for the nostalgia, but it's not my all-time favorite lip gloss formula. I still think it's pretty good, but I don't reach for these as often as I do my lip glosses that come with doe-foot applicators. The shade Tickled Pink is a creamy dusty rose (while many of the juicy tubes have sparkle in their formulas, this isn't one of them), and to me it gives off that "your natural pink lip shade but better" color. The formula is a tiny bit sticky because it's on the thicker end, but I don't mind it because I struggle with dry lips and formulas like these give me the feeling that my lips are being "sealed" and protected. It could be completely made up in my head but hey- these are formulated with vitamin E.

NUDESTIX Mini Nudies in Sweet Peach Peony, 1.8 g - Estimated Value $9 (buy the 7 g full size balm for $35)

These mini nudies sticks would probably be best described as "multi-use sticks" because you can use them anywhere on your face- lips, eyes, to blush or contour... This Sweet Peach Peony shade is a soft peach, and it has a sheer, creamy formula with a dewy finish. I like that the full-size version of this stick comes with a brush at the other end!

NUDESTIX Mini Nudies in Sunkissed, 1.8 g - Estimated Value $9 (buy the 7 g full size bronzer for $35)

This has the same formula as Sweet Peach Peony, only instead of a dewy finish Sunkissed is a matte coral bronze. I don't love the coral undertones in this- it's not a good match for my complexion that already has so much natural redness in it, but I did appreciate how easy it was to blend.

Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask Enzymatic Dermal Resurfacer, 14 ml - Estimated Value $5.60  (buy the 150 mL version for $60)

I've used this mask before, and it's a treat if you enjoy face masks that have a scent because this smells just like pumpkin pie. Because I have been using the Sunday Riley Good Genes serum (more on that below) pretty regularly I would need to be careful with how I used this in my skincare routine to not over-exfoliate, but this is also great on skin on other parts of your body. It contains three different exfoliating ingredients: pumpkin enzyme, alpha hydroxy acid, and aluminum oxide crystals. It's a lovely mask that leaves your skin feeling both softer and smoother once you rinse it away, you just have to be careful to not overdo it if you have sensitive skin like me.

Sunday Riley Good Genes Serum, 30 ml (Full Size but smaller bottle) - Retail Value $85

This, to me, was the star of the entire set. Not only does this full-size serum retail for more than what the entire set costs, but this serum has been like magic in a bottle for my skin. I used this a few years ago and liked it, but then put it to the side due to the allure of prettier, newer products being released. About six weeks before I discovered this set I got a new bottle of the Good Genes and started using it a few nights a week, and I honestly do not think my skin has ever looked better. Maybe it's because I'm a little older now and a little more knowledgeable about not over-exfoliating and the needs of my skin, but this formula of lactic acid, licorice root, lemongrass, and prickly pear extract is perfectly balanced to exfoliate without being overly drying. I know I'm not alone and others love it too, but this stuff has seriously been so good to me over the past two months.

Edited 02/14/2023: Here are the swatches- from top to bottom we have the highlighter, lip gloss, sweet peach peony, and sunkissed.

The Verdict

This box absolutely blew me away. I mean really, you can't go wrong including a full-size Good Genes serum in your set, but the fact that it also included a full-size highlighter and lip gloss really made this box a steal. I enjoyed trying out the Nudestix pencils because I am not very comfortable with cream makeup products, and I am always happy to get more of that Elemis cleansing balm in my life. This set is definitely worth the $59 I paid for it, and I even had a friend get it on sale for cheaper than that, which is wild!

I just lucked out and checked Macys yesterday and they were doing a 1 day sale for $35. The Sunday Riley alone is worth $85 so that is a great deal. Anything I don’t want I can give as a gift. Worth checking in from time to time to see if it is on sale. It’s a really nice set!

I am wondering why MSA reviewed this one-off box but hasn’t reviewed a regular Macy’s Beauty Box subscription box since last summer. It’s March now.

I just want to let everyone know that the link, for the monthly beauty box, does not work. You click it on & end up in a vicious circle that goes nowhere & it simply does not allow anyone to sign up for the monthly sub.

I received the box for many years then my identity was stolen so I had to receive new credit cards. It was a hellish situation to say the least — including trying to remember all of the sites that I needed to update all of my new credit cards. The Macy’s Beauty box was one of those sites. By the time I realized it, it was too late. Apparently, Macy’s cancelled my subscription because my credit card, that I had in file with them, was declined. I received no explanation for the cancellation but figured, ‘just sign up again for it.’ Haha Boy was I wrong.

I tried every link, for it, from this site along with any other links I could find. I have spent HOURS on the phone, with their customer service numbers, trying to sign up again. All to no avail. Out of sheer exhaustion, I opened up a new account with Macy’s & tried to sign up that way. Eventually, it appeared to work. I say appear as I received the emails stating, “You are in! Thanks for subscribing…” My subscription was to have started in December 2022 but nothing. I received an email on 1/30/23 stating my Feb box was going to be delayed but yet, still nothing. My charge card (on file with Macy’s) has yet to be charged for any of the monthly boxes.

Now, when I say I have spent HOURS on the phone with Macy’s I am talking about that they have NO idea what the beauty box is. I have been put on hold for over 15 minutes (at times). I’ve asked specific questions & they are clueless. I’ve even tried by going into my local Macy’s & spoke with the store manager. This has been the most frustrating sub box that I’ve ever dealt with — mind you, I’m a sub box junkie since 2013 when I discovered both Birchbox & PopSugar (man, do I miss them! Especially the special edition boxes they’d have throughout the year. Sigh). At one point, I had 14 annual subs with various boxes (FFF, Causebox, PopSugar, Luxor, Box of Style, IPSY, etc). Hence, I’ve dealt with many different issues via many different boxes in the past decade — so for this box to be the most frustrating is beyond me!

So …. If anyone else has had the same problem trying to sub or re-sub with the Macy’s Beauty Box, you are not alone. If anyone else has had problems but found a workaround to receiving a box, by all means PLEASE let me know! Thank you 😊

I’ve been subbed to Macy’s since their second box. CS is worthless most of the time. This seems to be like their wine club where no one really knows about it except those that work in that specific department.

If it helps my box was finally shipped today for February. I was charged late last week. Now we’ll see if it arrives before next month! I hope things run more smoothly for you. 🙂

I’m having an awful day and feeling really depressed, been bawling my eyes out and wanted to stop so I started to read your comment here. I am so sorry you have went through all that over a subscription box. I tried the link at the very beginning of the review and it sent me to login into my Macy’s account, which I did with my saved one, and then it took me to the screen where you check a box to accept terms and conditions and the price and everything. So I am really stumped as to what’s happening for you. Their FAQs section doesn’t have any other contact info except the normal Macys CS. Can you see any info about the sub when you are in your Macys account?

Dang, from beauty box reviews to the reason our country is messed up. That escalated quickly!

I’m happy to entertain conversations about whether or not a limited edition box that is a stand-alone purchase should be included in a “subscription box” review site. I think it’s a valid question.

This box was on sale for sometime after christmas. I paid $35.40 per box on January 12th. I picked up 3 because I love Good Genes and this is a great price on Good Genes, and everything else is just a fun bonus.

I believe these were released in November if I’m recalling correctly. They went on sale before Christmas and my friend bought some then.

I totally skipped over the ‘limited edition’ words and was thinking this was February’s box and was like wow! Then I realized it was a special box. Just wondering how you found out about it because I am a subscriber to the monthly box and I don’t remember getting an email about this or I would have bought it sooner! Luckily I was still able to get it!

Amethyst,

Annette

Jessica, I love the Good Genes as well, question though. How often do you use it? Is daily too much?

Reply ButtonReply

Jessica Hapak

Hi Annette.
For my skin, personally, daily would be too much. I use it about three times a week (shooting for every other night).

Stacy

Annette I’m not Jessica but am pretty familiar with Good Genes and skincare in general. I definitely wouldn’t recommend daily use of any chemical exfoliant, and Good Genes is a fairly strong one imo, so no I wouldn’t recommend daily use no matter your skin type. If you have sensitive skin I’d start with once a week and go from there. If you experience any stinging or burning when applying other skincare after using Good Genes you may have over exfoliated and disturbed your skin barrier. Though slight stinging when applying Good Genes can happen in my experience (especially if your face is still slightly damp, make sure you’ve completely dried your face) you shouldn’t experience stinging any other time. It really is a fantastic product imo. I usually use the Luna night oil about 10 mins after I’ve applied the Good Genes and wake up with soft, glowing skin. I only use it once or twice a week but I have dry mature skin.

Thank you for that great advice Stacy, I really appreciate it!

This whole review made it sound like this box was $15, and I was considering buying one. Then at the end you say it is $59?!

And why write a review with lip and cheek colors without including any swarch photos? This wasn’t very helpful.

Sorry for any confusion! This has been updated to include a swatch photo.

It says that Macy’s has a monthly beauty subscription that costs $15 and then “They also release limited edition and curated boxes like this Nam Vo Glow Box set, which features a mix of skincare and makeup must haves that will help you achieve a perfect glow at a reasonable price point,” so obviously this set was not one of the monthly subscription box/bags.

MzBev

Yeah, that price listed at the bottom got me too, when up top it has $15. She usually does swatches or uses the products, not sure what happened there.

No wonder our country is so messed up. People have no idea how to read.
