When I chose my items for January's Rocksbox, I failed miserably. I wanted to rent some fun and dressy items for the rest of the holiday season, but my box got delayed because of the snowstorm and winter mess during the holidays, so I missed out. Then, when I tried on everything, I was quite disappointed because none of the items looked half as good on me as they did on the models.

I will be a lot choosier in February and stick with more conservative looks.

Rocksbox is a jewelry styling and rental service. Members pay a flat rate every month to get unlimited access to the Rocksbox collection and the option to buy whatever they love at a discounted price. Each month, Rocksbox will curate sets of three pieces to send your way, including at least one piece from your ever-growing wishlist. Members can keep and wear the three pieces they receive for as long as they want, or they can switch out sets whenever they'd like. Rocksbox also offers a monthly credit so you can buy the pieces for less.

Concerned about cleanliness? Each piece is sterilized with alcohol jewelry cleaner using medical grade products and handled with jewelry experts wearing gloves.

This is a review of the monthly plan for $21, which includes shipping to the US only.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Just like other subscription boxes, when I signed up for Rocksbox I had to set up a style profile that asked me questions like my metal preference, and which necklace, earring, bracelet, and ring styles I liked the most.

Let's check out this month's delivery!

What I Received

Perry Street Diane Ear Climber - Retail Value $65, Member Price $59

About this item: Crafted in 14k gold-plated brass with crystals, the Dian Ear Climbers don't actually climb the ears. Featuring a cluster of clear gemstones in a vine-like design. They are lightweight, and measure at 1" in length.

Condition: Like new.

Review: These earrings are a total pain in the a$$! You can't actually wear them as ear climbers because they are too top heavy and slide down, so I wore them as dangles instead. Also, the wire on the back is too bendy and it feels like it'll break in half. And I had to add my own backings because they wouldn't stay flat on my earlobes. Total FAIL!

Kendra Scott Harper Small Hoop Earrings - Retail Price $60, Member Price $60

About this item: Crafted in shiny 18K gold-plated brass, Kendra Scott's Harper Hoops feature an embedded filigree design. They're a bit on the heavier side and they measure at 0.9" in outside diameter.

Condition: Excellent.

Review: Loved them on the card, but they were a little clunky and heavy on my ears. My mom considered buying them and had the same reaction after trying them on.

Lele Sadoughi Azalea Statement Earrings - Retail Value $165, Member Price $158

About this item: Lele Sadoughi's Spotted Tortoise Azalea Statement Earrings are freaking huge! Crafted in hand-swirled tortoise acetate azalea design with a champagne-colored crystal pave center, these mod earrings are groovy, baby. They measure at 2.25" x 2.25" and feature a surgical steel post.

Condition: Like new.

Review: While they're not that heavy, the size is quite overwhelming, the backings aren't tight enough, and the earrings ended up looking a bit lop-sided. They also misspelled 'azalea' on the Rocksbox site.

The Verdict

Safe to say I failed this month. My picker was just so off!

Value Breakdown: Rocksbox membership costs $21 per month. At retail, the three pieces would cost me $277. With my Rocksbox discounts and the member pricing including the buy-all-three-items $10 discount, the $10 Forever Credit, the $21 of Shine Credit (the membership fee for the month, which goes towards your purchases), and my Rose Gold Rewards discount of $13.85, the total price for all three items goes down to $222.15.

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Every box is different and packed based on the customer's tastes and what's available at the time. You can, however, help guide the Rocksbox stylists and add your favorite pieces to your wishlist!

If shopping were an Olympic sport, I’d be a gold medalist. And while my bank account often feels the crunch, I just can’t stop buying secondhand clothing and accessories, under-the-radar designer goods, stuffed animal unicorns (I have about 75), and toys for my pet bunny rabbit. After 20 years of city slicking in NYC and DC, I now have a car and love to tour the Virginia countryside looking for vintage shops, undiscovered wineries and breweries, historic sites, and Thai restaurants—I’m addicted to Thai food. I never leave home without a spare phone charger because I love horror movies and therefore have an irrational fear of being stranded somewhere with a dead battery.

What a bummer! I would have loved to see you try the chunky gem necklace on the Rocksbox pamphlet shown. I think it would have looked amazing on you!
