First Impressions

"Home is not a place, it's a feeling" is this month's Vellabox quote, and it is giving me all the feels. November is one of my favorite months because our family tends to stick closer to home and enjoy the slow down from summer. My typical day consists of work, playtime with the kids, homework time, dinner, baths, and wind-down time, which always includes the lighting of a candle. I used to be a big store candle buyer, and as I have mentioned before, my husband was changing the furnace filter constantly. Since I started subscribing to Vellabox, we not only have to change our furnace filter less often, but the candles themselves burn better, smell better, and are safer for my family. Though they might be a little more spendy, they are sooo worth it - especially because you also receive a surprise gift, a Spotify playlist, and a card with an inspiration quote to make this box an entire experience.

What's Inside the Box

Sunday's Child "Snug Life" 8 oz Candle - Retail Value $24.00

This month's candle maker is Sunday's Child, a company founded by Katy Weniger, which debuted after she received a candle-making kit for Christmas in 2019. From there, Katy began creating her own scents, using only nontoxic and phthalate-free fragrances while also leaving out any colorants or dyes. Poured in small batches with 100% soy wax, these candles are safe for your entire family. The "Snug Life" version I received includes notes of bergamot, mahogany, violet, sweet vanilla, and musk. With a medium scent throw, my 8 ounce candle gave off a perfect aroma for my kitchen and living room area without being too overpowering or too light. Wrapped in a lovely floral adorning label, this simplistic candle gives me all of the fall vibes and really makes me want to snuggle up in a flannel and watch a Hallmark movie. With the perfect floral and woodsy combination, this is one candle my husband actually won't blow out the second he gets home. Looks like I will be hitting up the shop to secure my supply!

I love the fact that this box features a different candle maker each month. Not only do we receive a background story on each candle maker, but we also receive a coupon code, and a QR code for easy re-purchase.

Now for the secret item!

Essence One "Morning Calm" Hand Lotion - Retail Value $10

Essence One was born by Lauren VanScoy who created this aromatherapy brand through her own mental health journey. Handmade with 100% natural ingredients, this company is based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota and helps support mental health programs with a portion of their sales. Struggling with anxiety myself, I have found aromatherapy to have become a big part of my life. While I tend to be drawn toward lavender oils, I was very intrigued by this "Morning Calm" combination. With notes of spearmint, bergamot mint, and patchouli, it is reminiscent of the oils a masseuse would use, and I'm all about it! Instantly hydrating my hands, this lotion left my skin feeling soft without being greasy or oily. Perfection!

Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $22

Vellabox is one of my very favorite subscription boxes, because candles are one of the tools I use to calm down and unwind. Every evening, once the house is cleaned up, my signature move is to light the candle and sit. My kids and husband are very well aware that once the candle is lit, mama is ready for some quiet time and cuddles. This month's "Snug Life" version was the ultimate epitome of relaxation, and my entire family loved the musky mahogany scent. Not only did I love the candle, but the hand and body lotion was perfection as well. Because of the importance of this aspect of my life, I am 100% okay splurging on items like this, and already can't wait to see what's in store for December.
