First Impressions

I’m excited to see what products have been selected for this month’s curation as well as to find out which signature products they have included.

Box for Nourish Beauty Box September 2022

Each month, Nourish Beauty Box usually arrives with an info card that has a quick overview of the box on one side and more detailed information about the products included on the other. This month I did not receive a card.

Now, on to the items!

IMAYA BEAUTY Retinoic Face Oil, 30 ml - Retail Value $60

My skin naturally tends to be a bit more oily than I’d prefer, and it’s also quite sensitive so it’s easily irritated. And so, I’ve never been a fan of incorporating oil-based products into my skincare routine. Body oil? Great, wonderful, love it. Face oil? I already have enough of my own. Yes, I’ve read all about how using face oils can actually help reduce oil production over time, but honestly, I’d rather not… This Retinoic Face Oil from Imaya Beauty helps to reduce the appearance of sunspots, fine lines and wrinkles, and blemishes. I was very intrigued to find out that the product has been primarily formulated with sustainably-sourced hero ingredient ‘aguaje fruit,’ which hails from the Amazon Rainforest.

Now, I have to say, I was planning on using this as a body oil for myself, but when I did a spot test, all I smelled were barbecue chips. I don’t know why, I don’t know how, but seriously… BARBECUE CHIPS. It also has a slightly unappealing look to it; a very yellow oil that reminds me of greasy chicken juice (you know the kind I mean). Simply put, I’m not sure this oil is for everyone, but if you’re a fan of oil-based products, by all means give it a try because I’m sure the benefits are worth it.

SERAPHINE BOTANICALS Amaranth + Safflower Clarifying Reparative Elixir, 30 ml - Retail Value $96

I’m pretty familiar with the Seraphine Botanicals brand, and their products are always top-tier. This Amaranth + Safflower Clarifying Reparative Elixir is a serum infused with a clarifying oil blend that’s meant to give you soft, supple skin and help revitalize complexion. For my sensitive skin, this is a bit too heavy for an everyday serum. The packaging is truly beautiful, and while I won’t be using this on my face, I’m going to be slathering this hydrating elixir all over my body. The formula is really nice, with a natural scent that isn’t too overpowering. Despite the oil base, it does absorb quickly into skin that’s a bit on the drier side, which I appreciate. Definitely needed to wash my hands after applying, though – left me feeling like I’d just eaten a bucket of fried chicken.

CAPRÉA Shield Serum, 20 ml - Retail Value $44

I am so excited about this Shield Serum from Capréa. Why, you ask? As a subscription, this box’s ethics are in full support of all-natural, vegan products, which I absolutely adore; but the brand Capréa has taken it to a whole other level. Their packaging is biodegradable, and it says ‘plant me’ on it. You can literally plant the box in which this serum comes, and it’ll eventually grow flowers that can help feed the bees. What a beautiful idea. I truly love this, and now I am an even bigger fan of the brand just for that alone. As for the product, it is also wonderful, I have to say. The serum has a mild scent that dissipates almost instantly (not kidding), and it absorbs super quickly into my skin. I love the gel texture of this product, and the fact that it isn’t a heavy oil-based serum is a win for me. The great bonus is that this serum, with a formula that contains natural tamarind extracts and niacinamide, protects your skin from harsh UV rays. So, if you’re looking for some extra protection while out in the sun, just use an extra drop or two in your skincare routine that day.

NOURISH NATURALS Creamy Vegan Stain in Raisin, 2 g - Retail Value $22

Our signature Nourish Naturals product this month is the Creamy Vegan Lip and Cheek Stain in ‘Raisin.’ I am actually thrilled with this shade because it’s a wonderful match for my skin tone. Most of the shades I receive tend to be just a bit too light for me; so light that they simply disappear into my skin. Formulated with shea and kokum butters, along with marshmallow root extract, for ultimate hydration, this stain does a great job of keeping my lips hydrated without a sticky or greasy feeling, which I do appreciate. The moisturizing formula, however, causes the stain to slide off my cheeks, so it’s essentially useless as a blush for me personally. I’m still holding out hope for a revamp of this product that includes a built-in applicator in the near future. Fingers crossed!

Verdict

This was a good month for the Nourish Beauty Box! The highlight for me was by far Capréa’s serum. Not only is their serum luxurious and fast absorbing, but I am a HUGE fan of their biodegradable packaging. I really love the shade ‘Raisin’ of the creamy vegan stain from Nourish Naturals. Lots of shades I receive tend to be too light for my skin tone, but this one is perfect. Seraphine Botanicals’ elixir has super eye-catching packaging, which I appreciate, and since it’s too oily for me to incorporate into my everyday skincare routine, this will be a perfect replacement for the body oil I just finished off. Lastly, the facial oil from Imaya Beauty… Besides the fact that it’s another oil-based product, unfortunately I cannot get past the barbecue chip scent, so I’ll be passing this along to a friend who will enjoy it. Overall, I thought this was a really good box. There could have been a slight bit more variety in terms of product curation, but the value is certainly there.

On the one hand, sure this looks like quality products, but on the other hand, just how many Creamy Vegan Lip and Cheek Stains and oils and serums do they think a person needs?
