GlossyBox is a beauty subscription that sends five deluxe and full-size products to your door every month for $21 (with free shipping to the U.S.). You should expect to discover new brands of hair care, makeup, and skincare in each box, wrapped up nicely with a different theme each time.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

FYI: GlossyBox sometimes sends out multiple variations of the box during some months, so there may be some variation between what we review and what you receive.

First Impressions

My first thought about this box was that I loved the colors and they reminded me of Clueless! I think the image of the woman on the front is very artsy. It almost reminds me of a mosaic collage. I’m excited to see what products have been included in this month’s curation.

Each month GlossyBox usually arrives with a booklet that includes a list of all the products included in that month's box.

What's Inside The Box

KORRES Apothecary Wild Rose Night Brightening Sleeping Facial, 20 ml - Estimated Retail Value $25.00

Korres is a high-quality brand with some powerful products, and this Wild Rose Brightening Sleeping Facial is no different. This is a night cream that works while you sleep to rejuvenate your skin with brightness, evening out skin tone and texture for buoyant, smooth, and glowing skin by morning. It’s incredibly moisturizing too without being greasy, which I very much appreciate. It has a water-based texture so it feels incredibly lightweight on my skin and comfortable for overnight wear. Now, this night cream is wonderful as a skincare product, but unfortunately, for me, I found the scent to be quite overpowering, way too long-lasting, and overall unpleasant. Because I am so sensitive to fragrances, I will need to pass this on to a friend of mine whose nose perhaps isn’t so weak in spirit.

AUTHENTIC BEAUTY CONCEPT Beachy Texture Spray, 250 ml - Retail Value $25.00

This Authentic Beauty Concept Beachy Texture Spray is an interesting product. It’s meant to add a look of texture to one’s hair. Now, for me, my hair is already textured. This spray definitely works to help my curls hold their shape, which I appreciate. The downside of the product, however, is that I require quite a bit of it, which ends up giving my hair that crunchy texture that I despise. But as long as you don’t use too much, applying it does seem to leave hair nice and soft. With that in mind, I think this would be a great product for someone with looser curls or wavy hair who’s looking for a little more body. So, I’ll be passing this along to a finer-haired friend of mine. I also must add that the product has a very strong scent; it almost took the wind right out of me when I made the mistake of inhaling too soon after spritzing and tasted it for hours (whoops).

ESTATE COSMETICS Hidden Garden Pigment Palette, 27 g - Retail Value $30.00

I really love the theme of this Hidden Garden Palette from Estate Cosmetics. As the brand calls it, it’s a ‘storybook palette.’ Each shade has an adorable name that fits in perfectly with the theme, along with a vast array of colors including a honey beige (‘Troll’) and a carmine red (‘Elixir’). This palette contains nine pigments: four mattes and five shimmers. I especially appreciate products from this brand because every single item is cruelty-free and vegan. I’m super happy to have this palette on hand. The shades included are perfect for my skin tone. A lot of palettes out there often contain brighter shades that are a bit too light for my skin. But with this one, I’ll be able to get use out of all nine pigments, which is incredible.

Swatches for Estate Cosmetics Eyeshadow Palette for GlossyBox August 2022

Here are the swatches of the Estate Cosmetics Hidden Garden Pigment Palette.

LUXIE 504 Large Angled Brush - Retail Value $21.00

Funny story… I believe this was supposed to be the Luxie 205 Tapered Blending Brush. When I originally unboxed, I was just reading from the booklet, and it said this brush is the ideal size to blend out transition shades in your crease, which I thought was strange, since the brush is quite large. So, I then attempted to use it while applying eyeshadow from the palette before I realized they definitely sent me the wrong brush. This is the Luxie 504 Large Angled Brush, which I have had the pleasure of using before. It’s a delightfully soft and fluffy brush that is perfect for applying powders, bronzers, and blush. The bristles are packed densely but not too densely, and I love the signature rose gold ferrule on top of the chic pink wooden handle. I find all Luxie brushes to not only be functional but also visually stunning and perfect for displaying on a vanity.

TANGLE TEEZER The Original Mini Detangling Brush - Retail Value $9.99

Another funny story… I believe this was supposed to be the Tangle Teezer The Original Mini Detangling Brush. However, I'm 90% sure it is in fact the original size Tangle Teezer. It works pretty nicely for me after I’ve already combed out my hair and gotten out most of the bigger knots. Unfortunately, as is, this brush is no match for my head of hair. The bristles are so close together that I’d end up pulling out a good portion of hair if I’d started using this from the top; I use a wide toothed comb first, and afterward this little brush can work its magic. It definitely helps spread my hair products evenly through all the strands, which I appreciate. But I don’t get the leverage I can usually get with a brush or a comb that has a handle. I dislocated my thumb while kickboxing back in the day, and so it’s a bit painful for me to hold and use the product repeatedly in this grip.

VIKTOR AND ROLF Good Fortune Eau de Parfum, 1.2 ml - Estimated Retail Value $3.10

This is a super minuscule sample, but despite its size, this perfume sure does pack a punch. Here’s the good… I am highly appreciative that this fragrance is entirely vegan. I also love the packaging, which is super sleek and clean yet appealing to the eye. However, the scent is way too overpowering for me as a person. Once again, your girl here is sensitive to scents, and like most of them, this one reminds me of grandma’s perfume. If I ever were to select a perfume for myself, it would be something more reminiscent of ‘clean laundry.’ With opening notes of fennel and gentian flower, an interior bursting with jasmine, and an ending that evokes bourbon vanilla, this Good Fortune perfume from Viktor and Rolf is super luxurious and a must-try for all true perfume lovers out there. So, if you’re a fan of floral-heavy perfumes, this could be just the one for you.

Verdict

I thought this was a nice month for GlossyBox! The highlight for me this month was the Tangle Teezer detangling brush. I’ve never met such a small brush that could handle my hair, and this is a great tool for evenly distributing all of the products I use, which is great. Luxie brushes are always a win for me, and I’m happy to have this angled brush in my arsenal. Not only do I love the aesthetic but also the bristles are super soft to the touch. The Hidden Garden eyeshadow palette from Estate Cosmetics contains an absolutely gorgeous array of colors, and I love how well they work with my skin tone. I enjoy a good night cream, and while the Korres night facial performed nicely and is a great water-based product, the scent is unfortunately a bit much for me. The Good Fortune perfume from Viktor & Rolf is definitely a product many floral scent lovers out there will enjoy (and I do love that it’s vegan!). Lastly, the texture spray by Authentic Beauty Concept – it works well for me as long as I create an even balance and don’t use too much product, so that’s a win. Overall, I thought this was a great box, with a nice array of products, and the value is there.

WARNING there are lots of issues with Glossybox and their CS is appalling! I have been a long term subscriber whose monthly box has been shipping a month late for over a year. This august I was sent an e-mail after the shipped that they sold out of the box and substituted FEB 2022 box instead! I of course already got FEB box as I have been subscribed for years. lesson learned glossybox has no respect for annual subscribers. Annual subscribers will only get that months box of no one else wants it. This after subs endured late shipping and substitutions over the last 2 years. My advice…stay away from glossy box!

This was a really good box. I got the same one as reviewed and I was pretty happy! Reminds me of the old Glossy box days, when I was excited to get a beauty box.I loved everything.

If the Tangle Teezer doesn’t work for you give it to a cat owner. I use them for both my short and long haired cats and they love it! It pulls out a ton of loose fur.

Susan, thank you for the tip!!! I find the Tangle Teezer useless because the bristles are too soft to do anything for my thick hair, but it may be perfect to use on my cats! Awesome tip and I am grateful. Repurposing is cool. And thank you Naomi for your always honest reviews.

Maybe its time to review posts before posting? This is not a Limited edition box for $35. Or $30. for existing members. This is the monthly box for $21.

All this site does anymore is cut and paste, cut and paste. At least the price is right at the beginning of the post. I do a lot of cut and paste, but I always re-read the final product to check for errors and inconsistencies before actually using the new document. This is getting ridiculous.

I tried subscribing to them back in April. They didn’t get my box out for April or May. They did how I recharge me in April and May and told me I they had Warehouse issues but unable to refund me yet.. it’s now August. So definitely be careful. Lots of complaints on Facebook about the same issue
