First Impressions

Last month’s product curation included one product from Nourish Naturals (their signature lip and cheek stain), but the month before, we received not one but two Nourish Naturals products. I do enjoy when a brand decides to switch it up every now and again, so I’m intrigued to see what they chose to do with this month’s box.

Each month, Nourish Beauty Box usually arrives with an info card that has a quick overview of the box on one side and more detailed information about the products included on the other. This month I did not receive a card.

Now, on to the items!

DERMADELI Citrus Gold Oil, 30 ml - Retail Value $40

I already have semi-oily skin, not to mention sensitive skin, that can get irritated somewhat easily. Because of this, I have never been a fan of using oil-based products in my skincare routine. Oil on my body? Best hydration ever. Oil on my face? Potential disaster. I’ve read all those articles about how incorporating facial oils into your routine can in fact reduce oil production… Not for me. This Citrus Gold Oil from Dermadeli, a brand new product to me, is a facial oil that works on improving the overall complexion of your skin. This oil contains 24k gold flakes (oooh, fancy) to help with acne-prone skin, along with other natural oils from citrus, rose, and wood to improve fine lines and wrinkles and restore overall brightness. I have to admit, with the inclusion of the gold flakes, this oil is pretty luxurious, and it’s even a bit less greasy than I expected it to be (being an oil). The scent is not overpowering and goes away quickly, which I appreciate. Although I may not use this product in my skincare routine for my face, it was hard to resist trying it out on my dry eczema patches. For dry skin, it was instantly hydrating and did not cause any irritating, stinging, or burning. I may need to hang onto this…

JUBEL NATURALS Outdoor Roll-On, 9 ml - Retail Value $15

How cool; an insect repellent that’s in the form of a roll-on! I’m definitely excited to give this a try, especially since it’s plant-based, 100% natural, and free of all nasty chemicals like DEET. This Jubel Naturals Outdoor Roll-On is really sleek and compact, making it super easy to throw into a bag for those fun summertime excursions coming up. The texture of this formula is nice too. It’s not too greasy and absorbs quickly. I am pretty sensitive to scents, though, so while I didn’t find it to be that pleasant, it wasn’t overpowering, with a fresh citrus type of scent. I’m super excited to see if this does the trick for keeping away those insects for the length of my next outdoor activity. It’ll be easy to tell because whenever I don’t apply some form of insect repellent to my body, I’m all bitten up within the first ten minutes. Keeping my fingers crossed…

SERAPHINE BOTANICALS Conscious Color Vegan Iridescent Eyeshadow Base, 2 g - Retail Value $20

I enjoy the brand Seraphine Botanicals. Their products are always all-natural, vegan, and cruelty free, all of which are important features for me personally. This Conscious Color Eyeshadow Base is a two-in-one type of deal. It calls itself an ‘eyeshadow base,’ but I would likely use the pretty pink shade for the true base and then blend in the darker pink over top to create a lovely ombre effect. The shades work pretty well with my skin tone, especially the darker pink; the lighter shade doesn’t show up so much for me right away, but it is buildable, so that’s a plus. The overall quality of the shadow is solid, with an innovative velvet cream-powder texture that blends easily. I tend to apply eyeshadow with my fingers rather than a brush, and this applied smoothly for me. This product doesn’t have any extra bells and whistles, but it is a quality shadow with a seemingly long-lasting, matte finish, which I appreciate, and it is versatile. The shadow can be used as a primer of sorts for your actual eyeshadow shade, or you can use it by itself for a soft, natural look that almost gives the appearance of a highlighter. Will I reach for this mini palette when I have a full-size palette that can achieve the same thing? Maybe not, but this is the perfect thing to have on hand for an overnight trip or even to freshen up your look midday.

NOURISH NATURALS Creamy Vegan Lip and Cheek Stain in Sunset, 2 g - Retail Value $22

It looks like we’re back to only one Nourish Naturals product per month, and I have to admit, I do appreciate that. It’s nothing against the brand, but one of the highlights of subscription boxes (for me, anyway) is getting the chance to try out brands and products that are new to me; not the same old, same old. This Creamy Vegan Lip and Cheek Stain is the box’s current signature product included with each month’s box. The ‘Sunset’ shade is a bit lighter than a brick red but definitely dark enough to suit my skin tone, which I appreciate. It does create a slightly more dramatic look than I would use on an everyday basis. This stain is enriched with shea and kokum butters, along with marshmallow root extract, for ultimate hydration. Whenever I apply Nourish Naturals’ lip stains, they never dry out my lips, which I appreciate. It almost feels more like a gloss because it doesn’t dry down. I do like how my lips feel hydrated without feeling sticky or greasy. As a cheek stain, though, this product doesn’t work for me. My skin is a bit oily at times, so the stain tends to slide off my cheeks in a way a powder blush wouldn’t. I know I say this every month, but I really don’t enjoy sticking my fingers right into this stain and would love to see a built-in applicator.

Verdict

I thought this was a pretty good month for the Nourish Beauty Box! The highlight for me was the insect repellent from Jubel Naturals. My skin tends to attract bugs of all sorts whenever I step outside, so I’m pumped to have this roll-on repellent to try. Dermadeli is a new brand to me, and I was intrigued by their facial oil, which contains 24k gold flakes! Even though I’m not a huge fan of facial oils in general, I’m definitely going to be using this on my body. I love the little highlight it adds to my skin. Seraphine Botanicals’ eyeshadow base was a nice addition to this box. It’s a mini palette that provides versatility and easy access to a natural look even when you’re on the go. Lastly, the lip and cheek stain from Nourish Naturals in ‘Sunset.’ I enjoy the shade and how nicely it works with my skin tone. Even though I won’t be reaching for this everyday, it’s nice to have on hand for an occasional pop of color. Overall, this month’s box has a good amount of product diversity, and the value is impressive.
