DateBox Club Aril 2022 Review

This was my first time reviewing DateBox Club and I have to admit, I wasn't really sure what to expect. I had seen past reviews and checked out their website, but I wasn't sure if this was going to hit the mark on a fun "date night in" for my husband and I. But I wanted to give it a try anyway! My husband travels for work and is gone for extended periods of time, so I'm always looking for new and interesting activities to do with him when he is home, and this seemed like a perfect thing to do once a month.

When the box first arrived, I was a little bit worried because this month's date was a partner painting. My husband doesn't paint. I mean, he can paint...but he won't. In fact, when we repainted one of our accent walls in the house recently, I was the one who did it and he kept the kids occupied so they wouldn't touch the wet paint. So, let's just say I didn't exactly get a smile from him when I told him what the "date" was. He is a good sport though, and of course, did it with me anyways. And wouldn't ya know...he actually was laughing and smiling through it all.

The Date

This month's DateBox Club was a fun double partner painting. You paint one half and your partner paints the other half and it becomes one complete painting when you are done. Awwww. I'm a sucker for cute stuff like this, so I was, of course, all into it. Each month comes with its own playlist through Spotify that you can also play while completing the activity. I wasn't a huge fan of all of the songs on the list, but there were quite a few that I love and even a few I had forgotten about that got a new download for my jogging playlist.

The DateBox Club box includes everything you will need for your date night in. It had acrylic paint, paintbrushes, glitter glue, masking tape, canvas boards, instructions, and chocolate covered sunflower seeds. The sunflower seeds were a fun touch, but I actually didn't like them. I think the combination of the chocolate and the seeds gave it a funky flavor, but my husband didn't seem to mind and ate a bunch.

You have three options for your painting: a button tree, an abstract/mosaic, or you could go rogue and paint your own thing. We both liked the look of the button tree and agreed to do that one, my husband doing a darker side and myself doing a lighter side. Apparently, my husband decided that if he was going to do this, that he was going to copy the painting on the card exactly as it was shown. I realized about half way through what he was doing and made endless amounts of fun of him. But hey...at least I got him painting.

After you paint the base, you will need to wait about 10 minutes for it to dry. The box came with some partner questions to ask each other which seemed kind of corny at first, but we ended up having fun with it. Instead of answering our own questions, we answered for each other to see how close we got to the correct one. Questions like: "What movie could you watch over and over again"?, "What's your plan for a Zombie Apocalypse"?, and "What celebrity would you pick as a best friend"? were a few. And of course, my husband had quite a few NSFW comments about my answers, which had us laughing and making fun of each other.

Once our paintings were done and dry, we put them together to check out our artwork. Honestly, it looked pretty good! The steps were super easy to follow and similar to those "wine and paint" nights that are really popular.

The Verdict

This was surprisingly fun. Even my non-painter husband said, "it was a lot more fun than I thought it would be". Which, honestly, is huge. The entire activity took about an hour and we were enjoying it the entire time. I definitely think the $39.95/monthly price is worth it as we actually have quite a bit of paint and glue left over to use for additional projects. The canvas boards were small, only 5" x 7", but I actually liked them being smaller as we had plenty of time to finish and can easily find a small, cute spot to put these now. I mean, they are definitely no Picasso, but I'm proud of our little button tree!

In a nutshell? I'm a bit of a walking contradiction!

I love traveling the world and stepping out of my comfort zone, but I can also be a complete introvert and will be totally happy hanging out at home with my family for days on end. I enjoy working out and going for runs or HIIT classes at the gym, but I also have no problem binging on a bag of cheetos and a glass of wine (which pairs surprisingly well together!). I love how I look dressed up and ready to hit the town, but am much more comfortable in a pair of sweats while watching The Mandolorian with my husband and two little boys. I love trying exotic foods and the different spices and textures that come with it, but my all-time-favorite meal is a juicy cheeseburger with fries.

So, maybe I should just call myself well-rounded!? Whatever it is, I keep an open mind about everything and am always on the hunt for a new and exciting adventure!

You and your husband did a great job! It seemed like a fun date, however I don’t find the value in this box.

I’ve seen others comment the same, so I’m interested to see what future boxes bring with this subscription.
