First Impressions

This month, I went for the cheesy romance!

Book Summary from Amazon:

After a wild bet, gourmet grilled-cheese sandwich, and cuddle with a baby goat, Alexis Montgomery has had her world turned upside down. The cause: Daniel Grant, a ridiculously hot carpenter who’s ten years younger than her and as casual as they come—the complete opposite of sophisticated city-girl Alexis. And yet their chemistry is undeniable.

While her ultra-wealthy parents want her to carry on the family legacy of world-renowned surgeons, Alexis doesn’t need glory or fame. She’s fine with being a “mere” ER doctor. And every minute she spends with Daniel and the tight-knit town where he lives, she’s discovering just what’s really important. Yet letting their relationship become anything more than a short-term fling would mean turning her back on her family and giving up the opportunity to help thousands of people.

Bringing Daniel into her world is impossible, and yet she can’t just give up the joy she’s found with him either. With so many differences between them, how can Alexis possibly choose between her world and his?

My BOTM Pick for May

Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez — Retail Value $26.00 (On sale for $23.40)

This book was easy to get into since the premise wasn't too complicated and it quickly entered into the cheesy Hallmark-style romance where our main character is a damsel in distress in the form of a car going off the road and getting stuck. She is then quickly saved by the local country guy, who is so very different from her, but when they meet again, the attraction is too much to resist! Sounds like something you've read or watched before, am I right?

The story was told from both Alexis and Daniel's perspectives, which I appreciated, but I really struggled with the first half of the book because I didn't enjoy the author's style: some things seemed to be spelled out much more than they needed to be which meant it didn't flow as organically. I was also really taken aback when we realize that Alexis, who seems so put together and educated, doesn't know how to use a broom or do laundry. It kind of felt like all of a sudden she was a different character. While this felt odd to me, I actually really ended up liking the second half of the story. The story went a little bit deeper and we got more into the nuances of Alexis and Daniel's lives which I enjoyed. Yes, it was a bit sappy, but it ended up being a decent story in the end.

I will say that the language (and content) were a bit crass, but nothing too over the top, other than a certain picture that was taken, which felt like an odd scene to me, but maybe I'm just not too hip these days!

Key Takeaways

Since I only really enjoyed the second half of this book, I'm not sure whether I would recommend it or not. It was definitely a light read though, and it delivered on the Hallmark-quality romance!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

Loved this book! It was a fun read, very sweet, a little goofy at times, but also managed to address abuse and a verbally abusive father very well. Lots of tension on the romantic side of things about whether they could make it work, along with the usual misunderstandings and near love tragedies you get with rom-coms. Also, very very witty and funny.

I actually skipped May. Hopefully they’ll have titles interesting to me for June and I’ll use the credit to pick up 2 books.

I loved this book and am so glad I picked it for my BoTM. I didn’t find it cheesy at all. The way the book handled abuse was very powerful and relevant.

I guess I should have clarified, I meant cheesy in a good way! The romantic kind that my husband might tease me about! Lol. This book was very nuanced when it came to some of the tougher themes and that’s the part I actually ended up enjoying more! Glad that you loved it! 🙂

I loved this book. I loved it so much, I went and purchased her other books from Amazon. I felt there was just the right amount of spice. Also, I did not know how to do anything when I moved in with my fiance. I served partially raw food, turned his clothes pink, and so much more. I am sorry you did not like it as much as I did.

Oh no! Lol. I’ve definitely done some silly things, too. Maybe I’ll have to give this one another chance I did really enjoy the second half, so maybe I need to try again! 🙂 Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Sheri! I’m glad you enjoyed it!

It’s okay if you did not like it. A lot of people like books that I don’t like. I hated Hazelwood!
