First Impressions

This box doesn't come with an info sheet, but it does have a card with a QR code you can scan. The contents of the box are snuggly packaged inside - it's always nice to see full-size products once you tear the tissue paper away.

BomiBox "May Skin" Box Review

Tocobo Cotton Soft Sun Stick SPF50+ PA++++ - Retail Value $22

Sunscreen sticks like this one have been really trendy lately, as they make it easier to reapply SPF or to just "swipe and go" if you're in a hurry. I hadn't heard of the Tocobo brand before, but I liked the pretty light blue packaging of this sunscreen. I am allergic to a few chemical sunscreen filters, but I still like trying out K-Beauty sunscreens because a lot of their sunscreens are made with filters that aren't used in Western skincare products. This is formulated with hyaluronic acid and a blend of calming herb extracts for sensitive skin, and I liked the way this felt on my skin.

Frudia Pomegranate Nutri-Moisturizing Sticky Foam Cleanser, 145 mL - Retail Value $10

I like trying out Frudia products, but this cleanser was a miss for me. I don't mind foaming cleansers, but this one was especially drying- once I had rinsed it away it left my face feeling like it was a shriveled-up prune. It's formulated with pomegranate extract to give your skin a boost of antioxidants, but I won't be reaching for this again.

Beauty of Joseon Apricot Blossom Peeling Gel, 100 mL - Retail Value $14.60

This peeling gel is actually a new release from Beauty of Joseon- I love it when Bomibox includes new releases. I personally do not like to use peeling gels, but I loved the aesthetic of this apricot blossom-themed one. This is formulated with a lot of plant-based extracts, and the overall effect was a gentle physical exfoliation. If you're curious about the science behind peeling gels, I really like this post.

The Lab by blanc doux - Oligo Hyaluronic Acid 5000 Toner, 50 mL - Estimated Value $5.25 (buy the 200 mL version for $21)

I enjoy hyaluronic acid serums and toners, but I never truly find them to be particularly special. That general sentiment remained true for this low-weight hyaluronic acid toner. Did it add a boost of hydration to my skin, which is always nice? Yes. Did it do anything more than that or have any bells or whistles? No, not really. This is lightweight as one would expect a hydrating toner to be, and it was easy to integrate into my skincare routine.

Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule, 30 mL - Retail Value $9.50

I love Centella, so this ampoule is right up my alley. It's designed to soothe sensitive skin while also giving it a boost of moisture, and I would say this ampoule successfully delivered on both fronts. It paired well with the hyaluronic acid toner that also came in this box, and I liked how it layered well with other serums.

Mediheal x Line Friends Hand Soap - Retail Value $5

I truly have never had such a low-cost product hold me in a vice-like chokehold the way this hand soap has held me since I received it. All products in the Mediheal x Line Friends collab are adorable, but this is as practical as it is cute. This box contains individually wrapped solid slivers of soap in the shape of a bear, and when water is added it becomes liquid hand soap. It's so practical and I honestly can't believe I have never received a product like this before- I can't tell you how many times I was in a public restroom that was out of soap, so if I was carrying one of these in my purse or my pocket I would have been set. I actually made an Instagram reel of me demoing this, and the video of me washing my hands became the most-liked video I've ever shared to the platform (which is a little wild to me but I digress).

Farm Stay Visible Difference Mask Sheet in Milk - Retail Value $0.79 and Farm Stay Visible Difference Mask Sheet in Pearl - Retail Value $1.59

BomiBox has had a good stretch of sending sheet masks I have never tried before- that continued this month. These visible difference masks had a slightly bigger sheet mask than the standard, which I appreciated because I have a big face. Both of these masks were cooling to my skin when I applied them, and I liked how nourishing and hydrating they were when. applied them on top of the Centella serum that also came in this month's box.

Value – Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $44.99

Value Breakdown:

  • Tocobo: $22
  • Frudia: $10
  • Beauty of Joseon: $14.60
  • The Lab: $5.25
  • Skin1004: $9.50
  • Mediheal: $5
  • Farm Stay Milk: $0.79
  • Farm Stay Pearl: $1.59

Everything in the box adds up to $68.73, which is a pretty decent value for the $44.99 box cost.

Key Takeaways

I really like my BomiBox subscription, and I thought this month was solid. Both the cleanser and peeling gel were a miss for me and my skin type, but since this is a box with no customization, not everything you receive will always be a perfect fit. And man, are those Mediheal soaps awesome. By my math, the items in the box retail for about $25 more than the cost of the box. I think that's reasonable, but remember that you need to take these prices with a grain of salt since almost all of them can only be purchased overseas and that makes finding consistent pricing for them difficult. If you're looking for a monthly beauty box comprised exclusively of K-Beauty products, BomiBox is one of the best out there.
