Vellabox is a monthly candle subscription! Every month they send you quality, small-batch, toxin-free, hand-poured candles. Late in 2021 the brand’s pricing structure changed: Monthly and 3-month subscribers will now pay $18 for a 4 oz. candle and free gift; $28 for an 8 oz. candle and free gift; or $38 for a 16 oz. candle and gift. Subscribers are also now able to customize their box to their scent preferences and receive candles curated for them.

First Impressions

This is my first Vellabox, and I was so excited when this cute little box arrived! The candle itself comes in a cute little canvas bag, plus there's a pretty sizable surprise "sample," as well as cards packed in with information about my candle, best ways to burn, and the candle's makers.

What's Inside the Box

Hardeman Home Penthouse Soy Candle, 8 oz — Retail Value $19.00

This month you could have received Penthouse, Fresh Linen, Nightfall, or Love Affair based on your preferences. I received Penthouse, which is a bit out of what I would normally purchase for myself, but I was really excited to get this candle burning and get its scent into the air. I am obsessed with candles, I always have one burning in my kitchen, and usually burn one in my bedroom in the evening while I work. I can really never have too many candles, and this one has such a great glass and modern label so it really matches the vibe of my home. This is a soy candle that is made with premium fragrance oils and has an estimated burn time of 50 hours.

I love that my box came with an information card on my candle. Penthouse is more herbal and citrus-forward with a refreshing spirit to it. While the scent doesn't fill my entire upstairs after it's been burning for a few hours, I really love the natural freshness that it gives off. It is bright while still being calming. It isn't too sweet or overpowering, just a really earthy scent that awakens me, making me think of a fresh spring morning after a rainy night. I really love that this candle took me out of my norm all while looking so chic in my bedroom.

Now for the secret item!

Scentbird Get a Room by Confessions of a Rebel, sample size with travel case – Retail Value $110 (for full size)

This month's surprise item comes as a collaboration with Scentbird. While I wasn't able to find this sample size pricing or even for sale on Scentbird since they are also a subscription, the card notes that this has up to a $32 value. Pretty good for a surprise sample! I really liked that this bottle comes with its own case, making it great to carry with you or to take on a trip without worrying about the pretty bottle breaking, leaking, or spraying in your bag. This scent has a lot of layers to it with red apple, mandarin, cypress, liquid vanilla, and clary sage oil at the front. You get this almost woodsy scent that is also sweet and just very earthy. I love the scent of sage and vanilla, but I think the fruity layers took it a bit over the edge for me. A little of this goes a long way so apply carefully, don't just go with multiple full sprays in your husband's office like I did. While it is a bit overpowering for me personally, I do appreciate the fine layers and the earthy undertones to this scent. Plus the bottle and case are super cute!

Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $28

This was such a great first experience with Vellabox! It really took me in a new scent direction, which I really appreciate since I do burn so many candles throughout the day. It got me in the mood for spring and felt fresh without being overly sweet. The cost seems like a lot for the size, but it does have a long burn time so hopefully, it will last me a bit longer than other candles I have. Plus the look of the candle is another important plus for me. While I wasn't able to find the sample size from Scentbird, the card says my item could have up to a $32 value. If the secret item has that value, then the whole box value comes to $51, which is a $23 savings. This box felt so cute and sweet, the perfect little treat for any candle lover like myself.

I got the same two items you did. Not a fan of the candle, but I love the perfume! I don’t go through perfume very quickly, so I love getting samples. Though this was pretty big! I don’t think I would subscribe to Scentbird, but I love the container the perfume was sent in. It’s like a lipstick container. Very clever.

I gave this subscription to two of my friends for six months and they loved it! I decided to gift myself a year sub and so far I’ve had a “meh” experience. The first box was missing the “free gift” but customer service was receptive and sent me a replacement (although it took three weeks to arrive). The March box was delayed and when it did come the candle jar was shattered upon arrival. I didn’t contact customer service as I was able to just remove the shards and put the candle in another jar. I’m just hoping months 3-12 are uneventful. 🙂

My March jar was also shattered and they did replace it.
I tried to remove the glass first, like you did, to use it in another jar. But mine had such tiny pieces and they were stuck in the wax, making it a little treacherous to remove. So I finally gave up.
I loved my first Vivere subscription, which was a 4 oz and 8 oz candle, but then they switched to one giant candle. It’s just not as attractive in my opinion, and doesn’t burn down as well. My last few months have also been meh with regard to the scents.
