This month I am hoping for some color since the sun has gone far, far away, and maybe a little sparkle to help me get into a festive mood for spring.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

What's Inside The Bag

So Susan Limited-Edition Makeup Bag, March 2022 - Retail Value $12

This month's very colorful, very whimsical pattern stole my heart, but I have to say, I would have hoped to have had the chicken's face featured more prominently than her fluffy, colorful tail feathers. These bags are great to carry a day's makeup with you anywhere you go, and they are a breeze to wipe clean.

Trifle Cosmetics Bonbon Bling Potted Pigment in Chia Pudding  - Retail Value $15.00

"Chia Pudding" is a sparkling grey that is easy to build up. You can get away with using a wash of color, but I preferred to pack on the color to really enhance all of those sparkles. I used a sticky base to layer my color over, and I was happy with the application. Honestly, this color is not my favorite, and it is probably not one I will reach for again when I have palettes that include beautifully pigmented sparkling greys that are easier to work with than a loose pigment. I usually only go through the trouble of using single use products if they give you a special effect like duo-chrome or an insane metallic finish.

Jelly Pong Pong Cosmetics The Super Matte Lipstick in Awesome - Retail Value $22.00

Matte lips and I have been at war since the 2010s. I love feeling a cushiony natural or glossy finish on my pout, but sometimes I like to dabble in comfortable mattes that pack a punch. This pencil qualifies as such. I love the bright red pigment and its easy application, thanks to its thin tip. I topped my lips with a thin layer of balm to soften any visible lines, but other than that, this lipstick was pretty comfortable for about an hour without needing touch-ups. I ultimately ended up reapplying my balm and blotting the color a few times to make it essentially budge-proof. It left a pretty stain on my lips for hours.

Trifle Cosmetics Pavlova Palette - Retail Value $32.00

This little palette houses a few options for contouring, bronzing and highlighting. There is a pretty peach blush at the end that works with every color option in the palette, and it is very flattering on my pale complexion. My first impression of this palette wasn't great because as soon as I opened it, I had pans falling out at me (swipe above for photos). After I glued them back in (easy fix), I still didn't really vibe with this palette. The pans are very small, so it was difficult for me to get any of my brushes into only one color at a time. The frosty shimmers are vibrantly pigmented, and the blush and bronzers required a little more effort to build up any color.

So Susan Cosmetics Skin Pristine Makeup Melting Cream Cleanser, 1.76 oz - Retail Value $45.00

makeup remover

l really don't look to this subscription to deliver any type of skincare, but I was pretty excited to try this bougie makeup cleanser; this small bottle (less than 2oz of product), retails for $45! That is a lot for something that you literally wash down the drain. I was expecting big results, but this cleanser fell short.

I figured I'd put this cleanser to use immediately by washing off the swatches I did for this review. I knew it had its work cut out because matte lipsticks are tough to remove and typically end up leaving a stain. I started with a nice blob of product, worked it into the swatches for about a minute of vigorous scrubbing and was a little let down after rinsing. If you swipe above, you can see the stages of this product at work. I knew the matte lip would be tough, but I wasn't expecting to have any pigment from eyeshadow swatches left over.

I used every color from the cheek palette on my face, including the very frosty white on the inner corners of my eyes. I also used the loose pigment on the outer corner of my eye to add depth to my look, but I noticed that I lost a lot of the shimmer since I applied 20 minutes before these photos. Bummer! But I absolutely love the bold red lip color, which I think steals the show.

Verdict

This month's So Susan Color Curate wasn't really my cup of tea. I wasn't wowed by either the cheek nor eyeshadow colors this month, but I did enjoy that intense red lip color. The makeup remover did a decent job removing powder from my skin, but the lip color and pigment still left a trace. This month's picks add up to a value of $126; I think that is an excellent value for this $20.95 subscription, but I was left wanting a little more from this month's products.

I love the bag, but I agree – it would be better if you could see the head better. Ideally the entire chicken would be in one piece on the bag! Lol! Great swatches! Thanks for the review!
